    For those new to the game, the deciduous trees are usually planted in winter. When they are dormant, the fine 'hair' roots that do the feeding are inactive, like the leaves, and grow out again in the spring as the soil warms. Transplanting them while they are actively growing can set them back badly and encourage suckers to grow from the root-stock rather than the graft.
    You can mitigate it by making sure your really really soak them before taking them out of the pots, [ 'floating' them out if you can] then get them into pre-dug hole that has been filled with water but has freely drained, and do it in the cool part of evening.
    While Bunnings is a big chain, most of the people I have net in the garden depts are pretty cluey, and offer unbiased advice. Unlike one larger chain, they are hoping for return sales :-}
    Leaving them in the pots is possible, but they will be probably root-bound by now - check with the seller as to whether a top=prune would help, though prunus species for one will probably grow faster rather than slow a bit doing that…

    Our local Bunnings is quite accepting of all kinds in their nursery. I saw a bisexual pawpaw tree, I tried not to stare at it too long

  • Fantastic deal for people who do not want to go through the hassle of starting from scratch.

    Don't forget if it dies within one year you can bring it back for a refund. Just keep the receipt.

    • I've never seen this guarantee before? Probably 50% of the trees & herbs I've bought from Bunnings have died - would've loved to get a refund. Plants are expensive!

      • They don't openly advertise this. But they'll tell you it exists if you ask. I've refunded multiple plants before, no questions asked.

  • None on sale at my Bunnings in Vic
