Grinds teeth at reminder that I had waited for the Note7 to come out.

  • 2 generations old tho

      correction - only 1

    • Was there a Note 6 that no one knows about?

      • +8

Must've been a prototype of sort. Being between note 5 and 7, my guess is that it failed to explode because the safety pin got stuck when you plugged it backward.

      • -2

They skipped the note 6 because Samsung didn't want customers to think that they are a generation behind Apple. Apple was going to released iPhone 7 this year so Samsung made a decision to call it Note 7. Note 7 didn't last long because of the faulty battery. We will be seeing Note 8 sometimes in 2017.

        • +23

They called it Note 7 to be in line with the Galaxy s7 it had nothing to do with the iphone.

        • +11

I think it was more to align it with their S7 range rather than anything to do with Apple.

          @Axelstrife:

Don't know mate. My partner is Korean and she read an article about it. Maybe she read it wrong.

        • @HandsomeMonkey: Korean journalists are the worst kind, especially those ones who write about tech stuff. I can't remember reading something that I couldn't criticise. Either they get something technical wrong, they are biased, don't supply where their source is from (i.e. those articles that are based on other articles) nor translate things correctly… The list goes on and on.

What Samsung have officially said was to keep the note line aligned with galaxy s line. Whether that is the whole story, I am not sure. There were speculations I've seen that refer to that, iPhone 7 or the fact that there were so many phones that had numbers in their name to emphasise their size (i.e. Vega No.6). Who knows.

That said, I'd trust the Korean journalists less than I'd trust things from online communities relating to IT stuff. Most communities are usually biased, but at least they know what they are talking about.

@HandsomeMonkey: An article you say? Oh well, if it was in an article it must be true.

  • This is limited 32gb (probably 23gb usable), there's no SD card slot unlike the other Note phones. So make sure you can live with that.

    • +3

No sd card or removable battery.

      • +3

dealkiller - nothing to see here ppl move along..

      • Any chance these features will go back in? I have a 4 and while its amazing it won't last forever.

        • Me too! I am looking for a replacement now. As note 7 doesn't exist, I'm currently looking at Huawei mate 9 and Xiaomi Mi Note 2 but keeping my options open. Will miss the s-pen but I don't use it that often.

        • @Jesmon: Had a galaxy note 4 which I fried at sea, so I decided to get a cheap in betweener phone till the note 7 was released. Got the xiaomi note 3 pro and was so impressed with it, didn't even consider getting the note 7. Don't think I'll go back to paying a hefty premium for Samsung when this does everything I need at one third the price.

        • @eediot:

Nice to hear eediot. My biggest concerns are the camera and the software, how to you find them both?

        • +1

@Jesmon: camera is so so, a bit lacking but I can live with it, once you tweak the settings. Love miui, so clean yet still customisable, crashed maybe once since I've had it. The fingerprint scanner and battery life is what won me over.

        • don't think removable batteries will happen, I'm just hoping for bigger and better batteries along with optimised software

    • +2

      Awesome:
Note 5: no removable battery/SD slot
      Note 7: explodes

Seriously, how hard can it be to get this right?

      • they must be feeling it, more staff than customers in the retail stores and its xmas crazy times

        • Are you talking about Samsung or JB? My local JB was chock-a-block.

        • @alvian: samsung store

  • Damn, now that I think of it I'm very lucky that I purchased this phone brand-new for just over $600 AUD over 6 months ago..

    Awesome phone!

    • My condolences. That's like two Nvidia shield tabs and some pizza pork roll money.

  • +2

it was a good phone to use but a bit old to purchase for now

    • To be honest what has the note 5 got over the note 4? No sd card or removable battery for starters is one reason to not get the 5.
The new phones now have very little improvements. The only exception perhaps being the camera.

  • In all honesty I would prefer a brand new note 4.

    • +1

You're in luck then - they can be had from ebay $300 to $400.

      • Couldn't find anything in the $300-400 price range for brand new, except the dual sim models (N9100), which have a smaller battery and slower LTE.
The cheapest non-dual is a N910U for a bit over $500, which isn't too high if you're desperate, but still a steep ask for a 2014 device.

  • Have to wait for S8 or Note 8.

  • Had the Note 4, and have now had the Note 5 for over a year and still loving it. Much snappier than the 4 and much better build quality. Shame about the lack of Sd/removable battery though.

Here's hoping the Galaxy s8+ is just a rebranded Note 8. Not sure I can live without my stylus…

  • Any hot deals on Note 7?

  • I got a used Note 5, 64GB for only $600 about 5 weeks before the Note 7 announcement, it was in ridiculously good condition.
I hated the Note 5 at launch without MicroSD and without USB-C - AND without 64GB initially in Australia - but I found I can live with 64GB, USB-C has issues with cable quality right now and considering it was a $1200 phone and I got it for $600, that seemed more reasonable.

It's actually a really good phone, under $700 - but 32GB? Avoid it, you'll get 20/25GB usable. Try to find a cheap 64GB

The price seems excessive, the only unique selling point is the drawing stylus.

  • its currently $947
