Buckle you seatbelt for some mediocre deals

    • +1

The console deals are actually quite amazing I have to say. Last year I got an Xbox One with a couple games (including the new tomb raider) for $340(or around that). This year they have a similar deal for $279.

      • The XBox One S 500GB with 4 games is a standout.
I'd say better than the Black Friday deals (like the one I got) with BF1, FIFA17 and (um) the Lego movie game, PLUS a choice of 1 of 4 others (ROTR, Rare Replay, GOW Ultimate or Forza 6)

        • Definitely. Mad Monday is usually where the EB sales are very decent. The xbox that I got for the price didn't go down anywhere else for another 5ish months. Pretty happy with the bargain

Buckle you seatbelt for another website meltdown :)

Buckleup your seatbelts because you mum is driving you to eb.

      Mad Mediocre Monday

    • +3

Idk dishonored 2 limited edition for 39$ seems good to me

      • +1

Me too, it shall be mine

      • That's the one with Dishonored 1 isn't it? Pretty good deal wish I had waited and not got it 2 weeks ago

        • Dishonered is good, so compared to the titles at the time it seemed phenomenonal.

I personally didn't like it because the start was quite boresome and it got overtly complex really early on.

And all the Bri'ish forced accents really put me off.

        • +1

          @Kangal:

I can't remember any British accents.. One of the things which stood out about it was that they all had American accents in a Victorian-esque setting.

        • @westhaus:

Yeah, sorry I meant Americans forcing (and failing) a badly Bri'sh accent.
It just breaks the feel of the game.
The visuals look okay on PC, but on console they weren't that great too.

What can I say, it just wasn't immersive to me.
Games like Uncharted 2, GTA V, and TLOU have ruined all other games for me.
I (unreasonably) expect all games to be good from now on.

Steam Link $36 is great for local stock.

    • +9

      Yeah great deal.

But even if you buy international it comes with an AU power plug inside the original packaging (as well as US/EU/ASIA). Really well thought out product by Steam.

      • +1

Oooh, I didn't bother with Amazon deals because I thought it would only have US plug.

      • +6

Yes i know. I ordered from the last Amazon deal ;)

However when a local shop can get close in price to the mighty Amazon you have to give it the thumbs up.

        • +2

Dont disagree. Both the Link and controller are the exact same price i paid from overseas. Fantastic deal to get locally.

    • +3

Yeah, I wonder if this is going to be one of those "deals" where there are five in stock and it's sold out in eight seconds.

  • +1

Steam Link is a must for that price if you like playing on the couch, as long as you've got decent internet to handle the upkeep.

    • +11

      You mean wifi?

      • +9

Or better still, wired. It's notably better that way.

        • +2

Gotta be wired. Had nothing but trouble so far trying to run a decent stream with wifi (even though I've got cable internet.)

        • +4

@OverburdenedWarrior: even better is a 10m HDMI cable to the surround sound processor - no lag and 5.1 audio in games that support it.

        • @gizmomelb: I have a 20m cable for that exact purpose. Only trouble is I've moved house and now need a joiner to seperate into two shorter cables because the door won't allow cables underneath. (Had to do the same with the internet cable.)

        • +3

          @OverburdenedWarrior:
Where does Internet come in for Steam link performance?

        • @viggenn: Streaming from the PC to the Steam Link isn't done locally as far as I'm aware. I'm out and about at the moment but can give it a look later on, there's some debug options to get a performance read-out from it during stream.

EDIT: As corrected below, there's no way it's done over the internet, so disregard that.

        • +1

          @OverburdenedWarrior:

Isn't done locally? Are you suggesting Steam on your PC streams to an outside Internet server and then back to your Steam Link? That makes no sense whatsoever.

        • @44sunsets: Well, I'll put it this way. You can't cut out the middle man by going PC to Steam Link. You have to go PC to Net to Steam Link. I haven't had a stable experience with it so far, even wired.

        • @OverburdenedWarrior: I could be wrong of course, I haven't had much time to try it since I've moved. You guys have intrigued me enough to set it back up once I'm home.

As mentioned above, keep in mind there will be input lag, so games like CS:GO won't be a 1:1 experience streamed.

        • +4

          @OverburdenedWarrior:
There's simply no way Steam Links streams via the Internet. The latency would be way higher. And streaming server infrastructure doesn't come cheap.

Steam Link works flawlessly for me on 5GHz wifi. I had occasional artifacting problems due to wifi interference on 2.4GHz since I live in a dense apartment block with dozens of wifi networks nearby, but there's very few people using 5GHz so switching to that worked out perfectly for me.

You shouldn't have any problems running Steam Link via ethernet so it sounds like there's some other underlying issue.

          [edit]
Just did a little experiment. I fired up Steam and Steam Link, then disconnected my Internet (my wifi router is separate from my modem, so I can keep the local wifi network going). I then streamed and played Magicka and Spelunky on Steam Link with zero problems.

        • @44sunsets: Yeah, that's a solid point, you're right.

Now that I'm closer I can use 5GHz, so I'll give that a shot. Otherwise I'll try a factory restore. Are you using the stable or beta builds of both Steam and the Link?

        • @OverburdenedWarrior:

Yup definitely give it another shot, maybe it'll work better for you on 5GHz.

I'm using the usual stable build, all software up-to-date.

        • @44sunsets:

I've got an asus RTN66U/modem upstairs but the TV is downstairs and PC has a wifi N dongle. Would that work streaming to steam link downstairs? The AC1900 modems should be pretty reasonable streaming right?

Otherwise I guess I have to get a powerline ethernet or something.

        • @44sunsets: Yeah, will do. I have to wait for Telstra to rectify some account issues and reapply a missing speed boost first. I saw your edit above, that's interesting. Back when I first got it, as a test I wanted to try just going directly from the Steam Link to the PC via Ethernet, but wasn't able to get it to function. I'll keep playing around with it, because it'll be easier to use the Steam Link than mess around with running another HDMI cable. (Plus I'm out of HDMI ports.)

I'm using beta builds on both ends, maybe I'll revert back to stable. There was an issue with the 5.1SS that meant I had to run beta to get it working correctly; hopefully that's been fixed.

        • @OverburdenedWarrior:
punch a hole the wall :D.

        • @G Wok:

No idea. Only way to know is to try it and see. If your wifi signal is strong and you don't have any interference on the wireless spectrum then my guess would be you're golden.

I get 4/5 bars of wifi strength on both my Windows PC and my Steam Link, and the streaming is working perfectly for me on 5GHz wifi.

        • @44sunsets:

THanks - Is your PC hard wired to the modem/router? I've only got a 2.4GHz wireless N dongle on my PC.

Will give it a shot I think. $36 is the cheapest it's been i think

        • +1

          @G Wok:

My PC is using a Linksys 5GHz 802.11ac wifi card. None of my network is wired, because my ADSL2 phone socket is in an odd spot and I don't want to run cables everywhere.

For $36 it's a no brainer purchase I reckon. When I bought my Steam Link from Amazon it was about AUD $80 and I still think it's worth every dollar.

    • +3

More like as long as you have Ethernet throughout the whole home.

      • +3

Powerline Adapters will do the trick for that. You can even get ones that'll boost the wireless range these days.

        • +2

Power line adapters are kinda amazing. Although I do wonder how hard it to run your own Ethernet. Making the cables seems pretty easy though.

        • +1

          @Scaregdearimasu:
Easy provided you can get access… If you are in a double storey like me, you'd be shit outta luck. I'm trying all sorts of things for stable network upstairs. Will give the new Netgear Orbi a go soon.

        • +1 to this. Powerline is the way to go here if you can't run cables yourself.

        • +1

@Scaregdearimasu: It's super easy if you're able to add a brush wall plate near your pc and near your tv then run the cable through the ceiling. If you're renting probably juts go with ethernet over power line.

        • whats the best way to check if a powerline adapter will do the trick ? wanna mkae sure before i go buy one

        • @AliensStoleMyMoney: Sometimes there are external factors such as the house wiring, but they'll generally only affect performance. I don't think there are many cases where the adapter won't work. Just keep in mind that you'll need space to plug it in where you intend to have it, as they're often wider and easily blocked by a side plug. (Needs to be direct wall outlet, so don't try running it on a powerboard) You can get some adapters that allow you to plug things into them (to avoid the above problem of the blocked plug.)

        • As a rule of thumb, power line adaptors work as well as wifi at best.

        • How can you find out if two outlets are even on the same circuit?

    • +6

as long as you've got decent internet to handle the upkeep.

It's your local in-home network speeds you need to worry about, not your internet speed.

    • +1

Ive got steam link/controller from the amazon deal - connected wired and speed is awesome, no lag

  • +5

I look forward to a post for every other item on EBs mad Monday sale, than the repeat comments complaining about the site crashing…

  • Nice. Steam link price and Doom for 20 is solid.
What are eb's shipping prices like? Can you organise a store pickup?

    • Shipping was like 3.5 for single games before but after the last sale fiasco where people where buying 20 50c items from 20 stores and getting them shipped for $6 they've changed the shipping calculator.

      • Hmmm well as long as it's not the borderline extortion rates some places do thats ok heh.

    • Keep in Mind you will have to download the vast majority of Doom. The physical copy has only one DVD in it.

      • The updates are big top, last night the update took 11.9 gigs of space

        • Is that for the total update to play the disc copy of the game?

        • @cheepo: Doom after complete installation is about 76.7 GB. You will only get the fitst 4.5 GB in the installation disk from top of my head. Rest is all download. The files in the installation disk may be outdated by now too. So be prepared to download anywhere between 72 to about GB before you can play the game. I am talking about the PC version only. Console version I have no idea.

        • @Babe:

I am told the console version is only a few gigs less. Expect at least 60 Gb

        • Thanks guys.

Perhaps it's because i haven't moved on to current gen consoles, but that's just crazy!

I've purchased a few Xbox One games on disc (when they've been cheap) in anticipation for when i buy a console and in the hope I don't spend all my monthly data quota to play them. I'm starting to think I'll be in for a shock when I fire up the rest of games for the first time.

  • This deal happens only in 30' stay up late to hunting down? lol

  • Where's this catalogue?

On the page linked, click on the sides of the first image to scroll through the pages.

Go to the link and you can click left/right to go to the next page. I didn't even notice at first, it doesn't stand out.

      • +1

Cool thanks. I did try that, but am in my
        Phone. Must've missed it

  • +1

Wish I knew about the $70 Xbox controllers before I purchased mine a week ago.

(I know there was also the ozgameshop deal, but that was sold out so quickly.)

    • +2

OGS deal got refunded if it makes you feel better.

They decided they didn't want to honour the price, and falsified it as a "mistake"

      • Huh? First I heard of that. Will have to check account order status..

Update: Nope - never got an email but order cancelled and refunded without my knowledge.. thanks for nothing 'OzGameShop' not even Aussies.

    • xbox controllers aren't pickup only delivery so with the $5 delivery it's only $4 cheaper than target everyday price …..

  • +4

There's actually some half decent game deals.

    Dishonored 2 limited edition $39
    Skyrim special edition $35
Witcher 3 game of the year $45
    Doom $20
    Fallout 4 $20

    Etc

  • +3

Steam controller or xb one controller for pc?

      • +1

Touchpad is good but Abxy buttons hard to press

    • +1

I just sold my steam controller and have a bluetooth xbox one controller on the way.

    • +1

Thanks guys Xbox controller it is then!

  • +1

Man, I really want the Watch Dogs 2 collector's edition, but I have a feeling that postage costs will be too high.

    • It'll be like $8-9

      • Do you know how much the xbox one s console will cost for postage?

        • +1

I imagine around that same figure. I've bought a tonne of stuff recently and shipping has been between $5-9. No more.

  • Anyone know if the XBox One S does 4k30fps on HDMI 1.4? My lounge room 4k doesn't do HDMI 2.0 and I can't get a straight answer anywhere as to whether it will work (limited to 30fps is fine I just want it as a 4kBR player).

I already have an XBone OG and am fine with games at 1080p60 (where the games actually do that OFC) it's just the cheapest way to get a 4kBR player.

I would buy the PS4Pro, but for reasons I can't possibly fathom, it does not play 4kBR. Maybe Sony didn't want to pay licensing to Sony….

    • -1

Personally I'd grab the cheap Samsung, it's what I did after hearing how noisy the S was playing movies.

      • +1

Not noisy at all. Maybe faulty units or poor ventilation or something. Mine is very quiet. I have the GOW special edition tho but I doubt any thing is different other than cosmetically.

      • I looked at that but cheapest I could find was $475 at HN and I can't really justify $100 more for something with far less features. I do find my PS4 and XBone quite noisy but the S doesn't appear to be so far.

        • Has been under $300 at Costco and JB of late. It also has the HD Audio features that the One S doesn't have (yet).

        • @scuderiarmani:
Okay, thanks, I'll keep an eye out. At the moment they only have a refurb at $399 (which concerns me that they have so many of something I would have thought was a very niche item that they could produce an advertisable product line from) or $596 for new (I think HN has the same model for $475).

I have no access to Costco though so not sure what they're selling.

I've returned the Xbox One S, it did as I expected and failed to run 4k content because it wanted 60hz. The option was there, I could click on it but when I did it came up with a dialog that said although I had a 4k TV it didn't support 60hz and therefore you're pretty much SOL. It did indicate I could possibly watch some content but playing a 4k movie (Mad Max) resulted in it playing in 1080p.

Back to my HTPC with a nearly 3 year old video card (GTX750) which works fine @ 4k30, just unsightly and not as slick interface.

    • +1

Anyone know if the XBox One S does 4k30fps on HDMI 1.4?

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Version_1.4

      HDMI 1.4 increases the maximum resolution to 4K × 2K, i.e. 4096×2160 at 24 Hz (which is a resolution used with digital theaters) or 3840×2160 (Ultra HD) at 24 Hz/25 Hz/30 Hz;

So going on the fact 1.4 can do 30Hz, I would assume it would be able to as I doubt the Xbox would know, it would just try and output whatever you tried to set it to and if your TV didn't support it, it would just say the signal was out of its range or something like that I would imagine.

      • So the reason I ask is I got stung with the XBox 360. I bought a 480p60 / 576i50 / 720p50 / 1080i50 RPTV way back in the day and the XBox 360 supported 1080i (and 1080p)… but only at 60hz. I was stuck rocking either 576i50 or 480p60 (which it also supported) until I ponied up for a plasma.

Risks of being an early adopter of tech, I know, but I wants mah toys ;)

Long story short I'll let everyone who's interested know as soon as it finishes updating. I did a deal with the EB guy, I bought one and if it works I keep it, if it doesn't I return it within 7 days for a full refund.

I also didn't know the XBone won't work unless you connect it to the internet first. Microsoft gotta telemetry I guess.

        • For reference, as above, 4k30 was largely a no go. UI and movie (Mad Max) would not work in 4k, both only in 1080p

  • i wonder if by the time i get to work monday morning, anything will be left. im just after a few xbox one games. a colleague will be after the xbox one $279 console deal.

  • catalogue looks cool

$69 is good for xb1S controller but do you have to add shipping too

    • RE: Watchdogs 2, is that the San Fran edition? Am I sensing a semi-decent deal from EB??

  • +1

    I JUST WANT A 3DS XL :(

    • I want a new 3DS. They never seem to discount that. I'll even take the AC Happy Home bundle for $200.

      • Isn't the AC bundle $179 at Target? (If you can find stock)

        • is it? i saw it for that price for some time ago. Ill check!

        • The bundle is not on their website, not that they have much there. Im out of the country so I can't really check in store till I get back. But if its that price, ill def have to get one of my family members to pick it up.

The new 3DS is US is $99 which is about $130ish after shipping its about $150 so its kind of close enough anyway, I think $179 a good price.

I know JB hifi has it for $249 on their website now.
