Don't know much about these machines (except that both CPU & GPU seem outdated), but the deal is really popular on HotUKDeals with nearly 200 votes in 35 minutes, so I thought it might be worth a post here. VAT is removed at checkout to bring the final price down.

i5 and i7 versions also had recent price drops.

  • Any review on this one? Does it work with Steamlink?

The reviews are on the Steam product page itself

It's running Steam OS but it can be wiped and reinstalled with Windows. It's really just a basic Alienware Mini ITX pc, dressed to look like a console. The CPU is a desktop processor, but the graphics chip is not your standard 16x PCIE card, it's a mobile one made for laptops and is BGA package (soldered)

I'm not sure if this can stack up to a current gen console… probably not, I'd wager an Xbox One would have better time rendering games than a i3 + 860m (although you won't be able to turn up the graphics settings).

That is nice setup for gaming there and prices seem good, will be a quiet system too.

860M GPU is the weak spot. The CPU speed, the amount of RAM and HDD size are all fine for gaming but that 860M will require compromises.

However, saying that, at 1080p and locking games at 30fps you'll still be able to have most graphical settings around High on modern games. Graphics would compare to XBox One.

At least $100 required to upgrade to 8g ram and SSD. You need these two updates.

The Steam Controller is $89.00 on it own at EB, makes the box look like a pretty good buy.

Don't bother build your own or go home.

This unit is awesome. I have one and don't game but it's a perfectly capable mini PC which doesn't generate very much noise or heat. Excellent for most tasks and good to know it has a somewhat capable GPU too.

I actually sold the 360 controller and 500GB for decent prices and upgraded to 8GB of RAM and use an SSD I had. Great little machine for the money and extremely compact (about 2lt in volume).

  • I'm thinking of getting this, just want to ask what's the shipping like to Australia. Also, will the power unit work or will you need to buy another adaptor?

The Dell Australia outlet website sells a refurbished for about $760, but it has an i7 in it. Is this a better bang for your buck option? Thanks.

This is much better value imo, you could even upgrade the CPU if you wanted to later, but only to 't' model CPUs in the same family.

Power adapter will work fine, just need to find a chrap AU cable to plug in to the power brick (chances are you have one). It's actually just a Dell laptop power supply! Which meant I had several spare PSUs too. A good thing as I have had a few reputable power supplies die over the years.

    • so is $404
      + $100 for a copy of windows 10
      + $30 for 4gb ddr3l
      = $534

so $240 for a better cpu.

  • Anyone know if this unit would be sufficient playing H265 content as a HTPC through Kodi or VLC?

    • yes 4k easily

  • sold out?

  • I don't think this will be powerful enough to run newer games

    • It is, but it depends on what you consider acceptable frame rates, resolution and graphic settings. Look above for a link to its performance

I guess this sale ran out of steam…

    • It was nothing more than hot air…

  • How is this different to someone building their own gaming PC?

    • Small case, soldered on graphics card, pre-built for those people unable or unwilling to build their PC.
