Not really a minimalist design if you have a big ass logo stamped on the corner.

    • +2

The other side has no logo, just put it that side up when it's not in your pocket :P

Edit - For reference the logo is around 20mm wide, similar to a MasterCard logo on a credit card.

      • +1

The logo is the reason that I didn't buy the wallet - the logo on a leather wallet shouldn't look like a teenager designed it.

        • +1

A bit of a shame as well. If the MW lines were vertical instead of diagonal - and a bit thinner - it would actually be a great logo. Probably taken though.

In my opinion this type of wallet is a flawed design.

If you put 4-5 cards in this, you'll reinforce the sides so much that the middle cash pocket is shut tight and you can't get notes in or out.

Hi KentT, we know exactly what you are talking about! We have trialed similar designs that had us fiddling about to get cash out of the centre pocket and then fiddling about to get it back in, it is not a good look at the bar! We made a few changes during prototyping to make it easier to get cash in and out, I can give you some more info by PM if you're interested in what we did, I know it probably just looks like any other card holder style wallet!

  • Now if only there was a reliable app to consolidate the 50 odd store cards I have…

And store scanners that can read a barcode on the phone.

    • +2

If you have a recent Samsung phone you can use Beep'nGo https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobeam.bee…. I find it works pretty well even with the old scanners.

      • I'll second that!! Works beautifully.

      • Samsung Pay now supports scanning in cards as well, even quicker than Beep'n'Go as you can launch it even when the screen is off by swiping up from the bottom.

An idea - print out multiple barcodes onto a normal piece of paper, cut to size, double side, laminate. Much thinner than plastic cards. Won't work for 50 but works ok for 4-6 :)

Stocard has been pretty reliable for me. On the rare occasion it doesn't scan the cashier can enter the numbers manually. Even has an Android Wear companion. - https://stocardapp.com/

      • Does it work at Coles for you?

        • Coles now have two types of scanners, one specifically for FlyBuys. I found that work pretty well (although now I have a Coles MC, I have a token stuck to the back of my phone that doubles as a FlyBuys card.

      • Yeah. Missus has been using Stocard happily. I've got it installed but haven't used it yet.

        • I had to type in the barcode @_@

    • If you're with CBA, their mobile app does a pretty good job.

  • Any non leather options?

    • Not yet sorry but it is something we're working on.

      • Thank you :)

We are considering offering an RFID protection as an option in the future.

Although a lot of noise is being made about the risks of RFID fraud we haven't seen many real world cases. Many people prefer the convenience of not needing to take prox cards out of the wallet to swipe (eg. work security pass, gym membership, paypass/paywave) over RFID protection.

Choice Article on PayPass & payWave security

Honestly, that makes no sense. If you had a Myki and paypass card in the same wallet it would detect multiple cards and not work. So unless the user only carried 1 card with RFID this would make sense, but if the user carries 2 or more then it becomes invalid.

I don't pretend to be an expert in this field but I think they work on different frequencies. My work prox card, my gym prox card and my MasterCard all work without removing from the wallet. If you have multiple credit cards in there all operating on the same frequency I think you would probably have an issue. YMMV. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in?

Your response is a little dramatised.

I work In the industry, in Australia the actual data or RFID scanning and cloning is less than 0.01% of all fraud.

There is a 32% chance that you will have fraud committed on your card within 12 months of using it online. Around 7% for skimming.

The way banks issue tokenisation around cards in Australia also means at worse they'd have a 15 minute window after a successful RFID clone to commit as much fraud capped at $100 as possible.

I'm not disagreeing with you in terms of added security providing RFID options and that's a great value add. But considering there's over 50 million active RFID cards in Australia and I doubt less than 1% of the wallet and purse carrying population have RFID blocking your fears and outcry are very much unfounded and just scare mongering.

You have more chance of your card being skimmed, copied, cloned, stolen or intercepted buying in the real world or online than you do with it in a non RFID protected wallet in your pocket.

      • Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge on this, very informative!

Here's an excellent video on RFID security and how close your card needs to be.

Basically a piece of tin-foil is all that's needed if you're really paranoid.

Lol why are you shouting mate.

Don't need it but bought one anyways :)

    • +1

      Same here …. ;)

    • +3

talked myself into getting one as well. the spare bedroom is now officially known as "OzBargainland"

      • Haha… do you have large mounts of eloop batteries, soft-drink and toilet paper in there?

        • People may mock but when Trump bring Armageddon upon us they will be queuing up for entry to my own personal OzBargainLand (the eneloops are in a different room though so I may have to rethink their positioning)

  • Not apple to apple in anyway but one thing I usually look for minimal design wallet is not having the sheets between cards as it adds bulk.

I'm having one of these https://bellroy.com/products/micro-sleeve-wallet/caramel which has 2 slots for frequency access cards or 1 card, 1 folded bill. The rest is in the middle compartment which can be easily pulled up using that smart thingy.

Again not apple to apple but something to keep in mind when designing minimal wallet :)

    • Comparing a $15 apple to an $84.99 apple? :)

  • Any space for big ass Australian coins?

  • Can someone please let me know what stage of checkout I enter the code? It doesn't show up before the button to "Complete My Order"?

    • The 50 units have sold.

      • Any extensions? I would actually buy 5

        • Send me a PM

  • For $15 I'll give it a go. I'll second the comment above though, the logo looks like it belongs on a $5 Chinese knockoff wallet.

  • I can't find any place to enter the code. Any idea?

    Sold out.

  • +2

Great! Saved myself $15 today. :-)

  • Oh damn, all the codes are used up :(

Any chance they'll come back at a similar price @MinimalistWallets? Pm me if there's a chance, I'd love to try one.

  • I didn't see anywhere to post a review on the site, so I'll leave one here.

    Pros
    * Good slim profile, I'm carrying the full 6 cards and a couple of notes and the wallet slips nicely into my slim fit work trousers.
    * Nice balance between security and ease of removing cards.
    * The leather looks and feels great. Build quality feels solid.

    Cons
    * Despite what the rep said above – "We made a few changes during prototyping to make it easier to get cash in and out", storing and removing cash is an absolute chore. The only way I've found to store notes is to stack them, fold them in half, then try and jam them in the slot while prying it open with the other hand. Taking out a single note is impossible. The wallet pinches them so tight that they all come out at once, or not at all.
    * The logo design is horrendous – it has no style or class, which is a shame because the wallet material looks quite nice. Fortunately it's not too prominent.

    Overall
I'm very happy with the price. I'm actually using it as my main wallet now, but I wouldn't recommend it if you often carry cash. It's really more of a cardholder than a wallet. I'm surprised you guys didn't do a second run on this deal for Christmas – they would make a good gift for someone who likes going out and doesn't want to take a bulky or expensive wallet along.

    • Thanks for the feedback @31974

Regarding getting cash in and out that is definitely a disadvantage of this style of card holder wallet and it is never going to be as easy as a bi-fold wallet. The technique I use is to squeeze the edges with one hand, index finger to help open up on top if required and pull the notes out with the other hand.

Glad you mostly like it :)
