        • You'r right, I withdraw all my comments

        • @John Kelvin:

Which comments do you withdraw? so can it be used outside westfield or not? I'm confused

        • @fomal: according to the forum topic, it might be not accepted at woolies outside a westfiled mall.

        • -1

@John Kelvin: as per above link discussion, I suspect the only way they could make their gc work for so many stores, is to make it adhere to Eftpos standard. So, might work with any Eftpos?

        • +1

@John Kelvin: Hey, John, "mademoisellebd" has verified today it worked in WWS townhall which is NON-Westfield

        • @hongd: Yes, for my experience, I successfully used my card before, however, I cann't confirm it works now or not.

So I withdraw what I said.

    • +4

It would be to you. If you just shop at Westfield, then buy the WF gift card. If you want to shop outside Westfield, then buy XS gift card.

      • +5

For my own experience, westfield giftcard can be used at any woollies, no matter in or outside a westfield

  • WOW THIS IS BIG!!!

  • +4

I already have to keep track of all my amex offers and now I need to keep track of all my gift cards lol…

    • Start a spreadsheet.

    • I have a notes page on my phone where I copy the bar code (coles gift card) or number (WW) and update the balance there.

      • +3

You should just use Woolworths Money for your Woolworths eGift Cards! Great app.

        • It was until last month's hack leaving everyone's gift cards emptied. Plus it can't deal with Coles or others. I've gone back to good old Onenote.

  • +3

AMEX is starting to make me feel guilty about threatening to cancel whenever the annual fee comes up, in order to squeeze more points out of them to make me stay..

    • +1

i didnt cancel for the first time ever this yr because of all the offers!

    • +6

Haha same, but I'm going to seek out the no annual fee amexs and use them for these deals.

I really liked the shop small offers. As a single guy, I felt like a boss walking into a cafe/restaurant, ordering $20 worth of food and drinks for myself and knowing it only cost me $10.

    • @googoo which card and how much could you squeeze out of them in reduction? I love my Amex platinum but fee $1200 kills me!

  • +6

  • can I use westfield gift card at myer?

    • Not all Myer

    • Yes. Are you planning to use it at a Myer within a Westfield centre? If so get the Red card otherwise go for the XS.

  • +6

This is my first year using an Amex.. we got it as part of the homeloan and found a way to get in on the 70000 bonus points too.

Now, it's Xmas and thanks to ozbargainers posting the cash back schemes - my wife and I have almost got $900 in cash back, on top of $1,200 in westfield vouchers due to anz rewards.

Bloody good deal if you ask me!

    • Do you mind sharing some details? Like which card and deals did you go? Many thanks.

      • +3

Sure, we are an ANZ customer with breakfree package (reasonable package but probably not the cheapest).

You get a bundled card with your home loan (not optional), we always pay the full amount at 55 days to maximise offset and have not paid $0.01 in interest :-)

When the 70k points amex deal came out, we jumped and figured out how to get the card as a 'new customer' then cancel the 'old' card and switch our "included homeloan card" to amex and visa black. It sounds complicated but wasn't.. we saved the $400 a year annual fee as we get this included in the homeloan deal :-)

Membership fee was also waived for rewards.

You get 3pt for $1 spend so over the year we put EVERYTHING on the amex, even getting creative with rego payments - just to see what we got back and when we saw the statements we were very impressed. All bills paid, no charges and maximum points.

Like this deal (which prompted me to write) Amex puts on 'connect compatible' deals which work for cards like thr anz amex black.. so my wife and i both register and maximise the cash back, while still earning 3pts/$ plus any bonuses.

Now Christmas comes and bam.. paid for :-)

I'm sure we're only novices with this, but we're pretty happy with our lot!

        • Wow, how did you manage to switch your old card to new amex card and still having the 70k points bonus?
Last time I asked the ANZ staff she said no as that is to new customer only. Did you do that online or via phone?
          Cheers

        • @mochariffic

All bills paid, no charges and maximum points.

I thought ANZ credit cards now treat utility bills payments as cash withdrwals?

"‘cash advance’ means a debit to the credit card account:
          (d) where the funds are used to pay a bill at a bank branch or via an approved agent of the biller (for example, when funds are used to pay tertiary fees or utility bills);"

        • I can confirm all of my direct debits including utilities are showing up in my anz rewards statement history - some are only on visa (1.25pts / $)

        • @pilotyuan: easy - use the wife :-) its based on who the CREDIT card is primary.

I actually had to speak to a few people about it, but it worked :-)

    • +3

This year will be a very Merry AmeXmas for your family :)

  • +1

    Merry Christmas

    Site is down.

    • Workaround I've found is to register manually, those sites loaded instantly for me.

    Finally Supercheap Auto.

Only $57.49 (was $154.98) for 4 brake pads combined with the Bendix Buy One Get One Free deal.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279114

Very good deal if you can change brake pads by yourself.

    • Is it easy to do it yourself? I've done engine oil and filter but hesitant on the brakes.

      • +2

        Pretty easy.
Just watch Youtube and do it yourself.

        What you will need:
        -Car stands/jacks
        -Sockets/wrench
-WD40 (to remove rusted/stuck bolts if needed)
-A small piece of wood and a C-clamp (to push the brake pistons back as the new pads are much thicker)

It may take you 10-15 mins for the first corner, but after that less than 5 mins each corner I think.

        • Thanks leoh, you give me inspiration! I'll checkout some youtube vids :D

        • +4

@montorola: If we don't hear from you next week, we know what happened!

        • +1

          @cnut:
Haha, no need to get under the car to change pads.
I never put my body under the car although I have 4 car stands.

  • Is first choice liquor part of Coles grp?

    • It is. But i don't see a Coles group in the offers above. Myer offer is only for Myer stores I think.

      • Yeah but myer sells Coles myer gc so u can buy $150 of it and get $35 back. Hence I'm wondering if first choice also sell Coles myer gc seeing they are part of that group? I never into a first choice before so hoping someone would confirm.

        • Yeah you are right. Otherwise you can just get the Westfield Red (in centre) or XS card (out of center), that would be accepted in First Choice liquor store. Minimum spend is $100 rather than $150.

        • +2

@sashatheman: Or you could buy more gift cards in more stores to save more

        • @sashatheman:

Think you misunderstand me. There's an offer to use amex at first choice liquor. So If they sell coles myer gc then I can go buy one using the amex to take advantage of the deal.

        • @Frozensage: Yes, they're part of Coles group (it's their Dan Murphy's equivalent). Not sure if they sell gift card, though I suppose they would (save the offer and try). Myer is on the other hand, no longer part of Coles group, but they do sell Coles Myer gift card (as they used to be one and that type of gift card still exist).

    • +1

Yes First Choice Liquor sells Coles Group & Myer gift cards.
      Confirmed by calling a store.

  • +3

Think site has been ozbargained lol

  • +5

got a Westfield gc of $400 split into 4 cards, didn't use payWave and no cash back email so far.

    • was that at the concierge desk or online? Which westfield?

      • It was at the concierge desk at Westfield Sydney.

    • Used payware and no email so Far as well

    • pls report back when u get cash back!

    • How did you manage to do that? My local Westfield store said no and did not allow me to split the bill. I would also want to do like you to save on the service fees.

      • Split payment over 2 samsung pay and 1 card. Westfield Liverpool

      • They are definitely able to split it, but some staff are more willing than the others.

    • +1

      same as you
went there and no emails yet :(

      • +1

Don't worry, we will receive the cash back anyway based on past experience.

    • Bought $100 xs gift card @concierge westfield sydney city.
      No email yet.. ;(

  • Can we only buy westfield gift card online to get cashback?

    • +2

You can get it at concierge desk as well.

      • thank you.

  • Has anyone tried using an XS gift card to pay for fuel? Perhaps Coles/Woolies servos would accept it given it works at their supermarkets?

    • -2

      What is XS Gift Card?

      • "The Westfield XS Gift Card provides even more choice for your recipient, to let them do what they love most. It can be used anywhere EFTPOS is accepted (at retailer’s discretion), not only in Westfield centres, but also outside Westfield. Great for an extra special occasion or experience."

        https://www.westfieldgiftcards.com.au/Online/Information/Abo…

        • What concerned me was the line "at the retailer's discretion". Here's the answer I got from Westfield:

Our Westfield XS Gift Card can be used in over 8,000 participating retailers in Westfield centres Australia wide, and can also be used in retailers who accept EFTPOS outside of our centres.

This includes Myer, Coles, Coles Express, Target, David Jones, JB Hi Fi, Big W, Kmart and Rebel Sport.
  • Woolworths offer is back again. I haven't even got my cash back from previous offer to spend $100 and get $20 back.

    • i had to call amex to trigger the $20 last time

    • I had to call them to get money back - that offer apparently wasnt setup correctly to auto credit.

      • Thanks Guys. I will call AMEX today

  • +1

    how to get Amex card?
Are there any with zero annual fee?

    • +1

The Qantas American Express Discovery Card, $0 annual fee currently. There may also be some offers running that has zero fee for the first year, you should search ozbargin to find them.

    • Also AMEX issues the Velocity Escape card with $0 fee

    • +1

i have mine through Commbank. I got it issued as part of a homeloan package. Also includes a Mastercard.

    • I think I read Essentials is $0 fee too and has the best points/$ ratio among AmEx cards for rewards. You'll need to research which card is best suited for you and what they currently offer as these change often.

  • +3

amex.com.au seems to be working fine but amexconnect has crashed.

    • +2

looks like it has been ozbargained.

  • +2

Lucky I only have 1 Amex card, or I will be losing my mind to keep track of all these offers, e.g which one I have redeemed, how many times..etc..

    • +3

That's why I have an excel sheet for all these offers. It doesn't help that some offers are targeted, so I have to mark which cards get which offers. Now I need to have another sheet for gift cards lol…

      • I had a spread sheet for Shop Small, now another for December.

      • me too, I need to start a new one now though…

      • -1

Sign up individually to Amex Connect (or if it's Amex Amex, you can see it when u login to ur account online). Faster to save offer and it'd show you all the offer saved or if it has been redeemed (including the one that you subscribed through manual link if the Amex Connect doesn't give the offer or the website is slow like this morning). The downside is u need to remember all ur username/password and need to login to check :)

    • +1

      It is lucky or unlucky?

  • +2

Bundle the Nespresso Cashback with their latest free capsule offer. Buy 13 sleeves, get 2 free or buy 22 sleeved, get 3 free.

    • Haha zing. But my email says buy 14 sleeves…

  • +1

For anyone considering Nespresso, there was a member email out recently for buy 8 get 1 free sleeves, or buy 14 get 2 sleeves free deal that is open for any Nespresso member up until the 1st of January.

    Double up your dealio!

    • Actually Nespresso makes you buy multiples of 5 sleeves for shipping, so the offer should be buy 9 sleeves (90 caps) and get 1 sleeve free (10 caps) = total 10 sleeves (100 caps), and, buy 13 sleeves (130 caps) and get 2 sleeves free (20 caps) = 15 sleeves (150 caps).

But because their cheapest sleeves are $6.80 that means 90 sleeves only comes out to $61.20. Even 9 sleeves of their most expensive capsules is still only $75.60.

Therefore you'd have to go to 12 sleeves of their finest cheapest, which is $88.40. So after cashback you're getting 15 sleeves for roughly the price of 10.

      • True, if you're buying online.

This deal is valid in-store, which is what I will be doing, so you can actually buy 8 or 14 sleeves (or whatever qty you desire)

        • Oh I see. I didn't know you could get the deal in store.

  • +1

Nice triple deal with Nespresso, combining their current free shipping, "buy x get x free" promo, and now the Amex "Spend $80 or more, get $20 back" :)

    • How do you get buy x get free?

      • Promo should show up when you log in to Nespresso website.

  • +3

is the website dead? it is tooooooo slow

  • +4

Get $10 off for $100 spend at First Choice online today only. Combined with AMEX this means $40 off a $150 spend.
    Use the code 'GET10'.

  • Are there any Amex cards likely to be available to me in my situation?

Student, 20yo, permanent casual 1600/month, 15k in bank

I have applied to a couple already and been declined.

    • Have you tried applying for student credit card first?
I'm a student as well and got my Amex by applying for student credit card, got approved, then asked bank to switch me to rewards credit card. It does take a while through this method though as you'll be waiting for two cards.

      • +1

Do you have a link for the student card?
