I guess gone are the days of Dan Murphy's member offers knocking your socks off! I'm keen on trying the Ghost Ship, but the other deals aren't anything out of the ordinary. Cricketers arms is definitely not worth $48 IMHO, Kronenbourg is OK for $40, Chang is regularly $10 on special, and you'd have to pay me $8 to drink Hahn Ultra! :)

Ghost ship is about right at $10 imho. i much prefer the US pale's to the UK pales though so mileage may vary

      • +3

Me too. Never thought I'd ever say the USA made my favourite style of beer

        • +3

Yep agreed, USA make some really great IPA.

Visiting DM every day or 2nd day on my evening commute home to see whats in the bargain trolley as well as the ozb specials on near-bestby date beers is where the sock knocking happens now. Also keen to try that ghost ship beer.

Personally I think the GS is great but as can be seen from others responses already it all comes down to personal taste.

        Bit like Brussell Sprouts really.

        • After trying it, it's not a bad drop. Would be worthwhile at 6 for $13, but not 4 for $10 or $57. Would rather a more bitter and higher ABV for an IPA and leave the session beer to a cheaper pale ale.

    • I like the Adnams, it's a decent session IPA. At $10 a 4 pack though it's not really a special, I generally but slabs for $54.

    • I'm a beer snob and I recall liking Ghost Ship last time i had pack. Probably get some more.

    • +3

Wait for their liquidater, GA, to get serious about their diacounts.
Oh wait, that's other Woolworths group companies…

  • bit weak deals this month :( was expecting some decent offers this month given it's December

    • +14

This month would be one of their highest for sales. Christmas and New Year's Eve. They don't need to discount. I was expecting worse deals.

      • Overseas, this is when the big discounts happen on christmas drinks like champagne, fortified, etc.

      • Doesn't DM usually do some pretty good discounts around this time? (in the weeks leading into christmas). I have a vague recollection of making some large orders the last couple of years around late November/Early December and snagging some good bargains.

Am I missing something with the Ghost Ship…..

You can get a slab for $57 so while $10 for 4 is cheaper than the usual price just get a slab to save even more.

Now I suppose we could say $10 for 4 to try them is a good price. My advice is just get a slab as the Ghost Ship is an outstanding pale ale. I am constantly amazed that you can get a slab of 440ml Ghost Ship for less than $60.

It's that good (IMHO and of course YMMV).

    • You're missing that a 4 pack is normally $14.50.

      • +1

My line about trying them for $10 becomes a good price in this month's offers alludes to that. For me though the $10 price is pointless as I have tried them, like them and would just buy a slab of them to garner a greater saving again is where I was going.

    • It really is a good IPA at that price, I prefer the hoppier sharper ones but this still has plenty of flavour.

    • YMMV thus I would try a six pack before a slab.

    • You will find that not everyone has tried it before and would rather spend $10 to try rather than commit to a slab.
In saying that, I have bought two 4-packs and really dig it.

    Chirin?
    <3

  • When did Chang drop down to 320ml per bottle ?

    • ฉันไม่รู้

  • +3

    Nothing too inspiring.
I have a couple of dockets from Woolies that will get me James Squires slabs for $48 that looks like it will be the Xmas drink.

  • hmmm… I think Spacebace, has been drinking too much "Chirin" Beer

Any Chirin Beer case (24) and Kirin Cider pack (4) $50

    LOL 😀

    • +6

Hey cut me some slack I was hand-writing all that :/

      • +6

With a phone in one hand and a beer in the other :)

  • +6

    Great write up!!

Thanks for putting in the effort

  • +3

Thanks @OP - Dan Murphys has now become fairly standard in pricing (even with specials)

  • No wine?

    • +13

      Yep, tons, cbf…!

      • +1

        That made me literally lol

        • Same

    • I'm a wine bogan. Bowlers Run Shiraz or Kardonay $3, every time.

  • Auchentoshan American Oak gets some mixed reviews. It's $60 at BWS so $50 is a good price, but I wouldn't be surprised if this 'scotch for bourbon lovers' has been selling poorly.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if this 'scotch for bourbon lovers' has been selling poorly.

Ultimately, what could be good about it (apart from price and the fact it contains sweet liquor?) Lowland distillery, first fill bourbon oak cask, no age statement… may as well grab a Glenlivet founders for about the same price…

    • If you buy a bottle then you'll understand why it's selling poorly. I was incredibly disappointed when I bought one (~$65 if memory serves) it was quickly relegated to being mixed with Coke.

If it were in the bargain bin for $20 I wouldn't be interested.

  • Chang is good.

  • +1

Kronenbourg is a great beer. If you haven't tried it I can recommend giving it a try.

  • +2

Thanks. I hate how in the app I always have to past all the wines before I get to the beer.

    • +1

Hey mate, I had a similar thing but when I went on 'My Account' I changed my profile from Red Wine enthusiast to Beer enthusiast and now I get all the beer offers from the start.

I called the service centre to make sure and it was all good from then on

      • You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

  • +1

I've been using the $10 Coles dockets to get a 6 pack of Kirin.
Need to stock up some more before 6th the December.

  • +1

Both Kronenbourg and Ketel Vodka come reccomeneded!

  • Chang is only 320mL but is 5% strength and tastes good. No other good beer/cider deals here.
Chang used to be 6.4% in Thailand.

  • +3

They're not even trying now. This is pathetic.

  • +2

    thanks @Spackbace

Will try the Ghost Ship on fellow Ozb member recommendation

  • Kettle One for $39 is excellent.

  • I really love the Rollins whisky. I'm a mixer and this is just about the right drop for it IMO.
