  • Been waiting for this. Thanks EC!

    • I also grabbed one of each

      You are welcome

  • Has this got a Kodi app ?

    • You can install Kodi on it with relatively minor faffing.

  • +2

I want to try the FireTV/Stick, but with a NUC, Shield TV, Nexus Player, CC, CC2, WDTV and a Mi Box on the way, I think I'm media player'd out.

I WILL GET 100% WAF ONE DAY!

    • +1

You might get WAF, but no bloody media player ever will, unless it can read minds that is.

      • I think you might be right :(

  • Pay with paypal or card?

  • Anyone here have an Amazon Dot at home? How is it for use in Australia?

    • +4

Awesome. I don't really use it for any local stuff like ordering groceries or Uber. I have it set to Guam time zone so it can tell me the time, set alarms etc fine.

It tells me the weather fine (just add my city to the end of the request).

I also use it successfully for reading my audible books (US account), timers, grocery list, checking and adding to my google calendar, and controlling my LIFX smart bulbs.

      • I can't get mine to change colours of my LIFX bulbs - can you?

(btw I have one white and one black one and I reckon the white one looks better) :)

        • No. Apparently that doesn't work.

        • Anyone tried through Yonomi? (saw something about it on the LIFX Echo page)

  • MediaTek 8127D in these

  • How does the compare to the roku 2016 stick

  • Still no ETA on the Echo Dots from B&H though?
    (Actually, just the black Dots)

  • OK I may be missing it but does this only do streaming from the web or can it be used to play local media also? As in the stuff I have on my computer like music and home movies.

  • Is this the best price on the Echo dot or will amazon have better?

Hmm Black seems to have gone to/be "preorder", white is available..

The website seems to be a bit flaky due to load issues =)

    • +1

Well, Amazon has already dropped its price for Black Friday (the same as B&H is offering).
B&H will ship to Aus without jumping through hoops though, although only white is available at the moment.

  • Price jacked up to $35… lame

    • Damn…yes very lame

      • Hoping they drop the price again on Cyber Monday…

        • It's gone up to $40 now…claiming $5 off still though.

  • Does the first tv stick turn off with the tv? I'd like it to be running Netflix 24/7 and not keen on slow boot up every time the tv is turned on.
    Anyone know about this?

    • i guess they are dependent on your tv whether it kills power to the usb port. if you power it not via TV's usb, for example like from a mobile phone charger, it will stay on for sure.

  • so tempted with the amazon echo dot 2nd gen

    • Just do it. At $70 it's a no brainer. I have two. Love them. See my comment above for what I use them for.

      • thats what i thought, i got a few lifx around the place and also homeassistant.io
i was considering google home too.

  • Back down to USD $35 for the Fire TV Stick. Not back down to $30 unfortunately.

Ordered that and a black Dot. Shipping was USD $18.90 for both after changing option to DHL Global Mail. Selected 'ship in-stock items first' and surprisingly it didn't increase the shipping price…so presumably I'll get the Fire TV in shipment 1 and the Dot in shipment 2 (once in stock).

Can the Dot just be paired to my existing Echo to avoid having to set it up? Tricking the Echo into using Melbourne timezone (not Guam) using put commands was a pain.

  • Echo Dot USD 49.99, shipping to Sydney USD 12.26
How you guys get $3 shipping? :(

    • Was during the Black Friday sales, Dot was US$39.95

  • omg great find, ordered a black dot.
    thanks op

  • Does DHL Global Mail transfer to Auspost for the last leg?

DHL tracking shows it arrived in Sydney on the 3rd. There is also a USPS tracking number on the DHL page, if I drop that in Auspost it doesn't throw an error but has no events.

Likely I'm just going to have to wait another 2 weeks for Auspost to get their shit together?

  • So Auspost wasn't quite as bad as I thought would be, only 8 days (gotta love Sunday christmas deliveries)

Anyway, how cool is the Dot.. Want more now :)

Set up with Harmony and LIFX so far, but funny to see my 6 year olds jaw literally drop when I told it to turn on the TV and the magic happened.

Wife is happy now she can set the kids LIFX nightlight scene without a phone too (or calling out to me to do it like she used to do).

Hoping once Amazon launches in Aus we can get full use of it.

  • Unit price is $49 usd, the cheapest delivery option for me is DHL Saver, at $12.26USD. How did you guys get free shipping?
