Despite being called out on their fair use policy last time, they still haven't fixed it

    • You can't post an RC or X rated image or video to any type of internet service. No you can't post a funny X rated picture to reddit.

    • You can't use Spotify, Netflix, peer 2 peer, or any other service that would be "continuous" or "automated". Yes they specifically mention peer to peer, no World of Warcraft downloading for example.

    • "Such actions may include (but are not limited to) temporary or permanent removal of content and content publishing capabilities, filtering of Internet transmissions"

    • "we reserve the right to monitor your use of the service to identify violations of this policy, and to protect our network, the other users of this service, and other Internet users."

And then they have ridiculous stuff like this

    • Posting or cross-posting the same or substantially similar messages to more than eight online forums is prohibited.

    • You must not disrupt or attempt to disrupt online forums by posting a large number of messages that contain no substantive content. Disruption occurs when normal discussion in the group is significantly hindered.

In addition the rep proved last time that they are incompetent at answering questions and started giving people special permission to run things like spotify as well as a lot of other worrying things.

Many thanks for your comment Sam, as stated previously, our fair use policy adhere's to our provider's fair use policy including nbn and thus it is no different fair use policy to likes of Optus or myrepublic, actually the schedule you have asked about comes directly from one of our providers and as you can see is the same as Optus or my republic or Telstra for that matter https://mrau-web-02.s3.amazonaws.com/au/wp-content/uploads/2… Even TPG which determines under its terms to suspend you or slow you down https://www.tpg.com.au/terms_conditions/standard . Under any of these fair use policy you are very much incorrect by saying netflix or spotify cannot be downloaded. It does not say so and allows you to do so. Many thanks and hope you decide to choose teleron as your provider.

      • +1

Where in TPG's policy does it mention anything like that? It doesn't.

Yes Optus are using a similar fair use policy, but they are a big company who have never acted upon people going against their policy.

You are a small company, Whirlpool proves that small companys very commonly shape or kick off users that do not fit their fair use policy as they profit greatly from this.

Also you claim you can watch Netflix/Spotify, then please explain what this means

"continuous streaming media and peer-to-peer file sharing applications"

In short, Optus are big and well known and everyone knows Peer 2 peer, servers and whatever you like is allowed.

We don't know if you will follow your fair use policy, so being a smaller company why not update it to be in line with the majority of ISP's that clearly allow things like peer 2 peer instead of being like Optus who pretend they don't allow it but allow it?

Here is a simple question, do you allow peer 2 peer?

        • Sam, Optus doesn't similar fair use policy, Optus has the same fair use policy and do you know for a fact that "they have never acted" on it, nor TPG.

Yes, we are small and we care for our customers and if you read the fair-use policy set both in our terms, in optus' terms and in myrepublic terms, it does not say you cannot have peer to peer, it says you should be around when there is this connection. Again, if you are not happy with that by all means don't use nbn providers as they all have similar if not the same fair-use policy. Ours is worded the same as our suppliers' and therefore, the example given above are worded almost word for word the same.

So being a smaller company, we would like to adhere to the rules set to everyone, we are not a law set on ourselves.

Reality Sam we could argue about this, but we are trying to sell a product which for some reason you are offended, so please don't buy it if you are offended. Actually, you probably shouldn't purchase any product that has nbn which has this fair use policy just to be safe. I mean, why would Optus or my republic put this document in their legal section if it were not legal or actionable?

We provide a great service and believe in customer service, however, if you don't like our product we won't be insulted if you go somewhere else. We try and resolve issues as quickly as we can and try to assist as well as you can with as low a price as we can without stopping a good customer service. If you believe there is a better product go for it.

          Many thanks teleron

        • I know for a fact that Optus has never acted on it.

TPG has no bad fair use policy to act on, they do not mention any of that, they allow everything.

So let me get this straight, I can use peer 2 peer as long as I'm sitting in front of the computer? That is ridiculous and misleading.

If you are going to have this rule, you should advertise it on the frontpage of your website it should read

"You must shutdown your Internet if you are not sitting in the chair"

Hi rep, sorry if this is a silly question but do your prices include line rental?

    • Hi Sean, we do not charge for line rental. Many thanks for your question.

  • Rep

Zero setup costs - does that include the modem, or is that extra?

    • +1

Hi Rocky, it depends. Modem is separate. If you just require a router you can BYO modem, otherwise we provide a free router if you sign up for a 2 yr plan. If you have VDSL you would need to pay $48 for our VDSL modem on a 2 yr plan (as it needs to be nbn approved modem)

Negging due to obvious astroturfing by John316 aka OP.

  • Dear all, please don't fight, does Optus or TPG follow their fair-use policy? Well why have it if you don't? Does myrepublic? Again, why have it if they don't? does teleron? All teleron is doing is placing the fair-use policy as provided by its suppliers whether it be nbn or Optus or any other of its suppliers onto his users. Will it act on it? If its suppliers such as nbn acts on it, so will teleron (as would Optus, Telstra or TPG for that matter). Reality is this fair-use policy is in place by most if not all providers using the nbn. Not choosing teleron because it uses the same fair-use policy because "Optus" doesn't act on it but still has it is your call and we respect it. Hope you can join teleron but only if you respect teleron's users and its suppliers. If you don't like the fair-use policy that has been imposed by teleron's suppliers by all means, don't join, but don't say that one should join another supplier because "they don't mean what they say". At teleron we care for our customers and hope our customers care for all users. Furthermore, we have not heard any of our customers complaining as far as internet use is concerned. We have not shaped any customer as yet and hope our customer experience continues to be excellent.

    • If you are going to post on ozbargain you have to answer questions people ask. You have avoided questions in this bargain, and you avoided them in the last bargain.

I will ask questions every single time you post on ozbargain until you answer them.

do you allow peer 2 peer?
do you allow peer 2 peer?
do you allow peer 2 peer?

Do you allow continuous streaming media?
Do you allow continuous streaming media?
Do you allow continuous streaming media?

Either you answer the question, or I'll keep asking.

By not answering you are attempting to mislead customers.

      • Sam, many thanks for your myriad of questions. As stated before we adhere to our supplier's fair-use policy. Therefore, we allow peer to peer as long as it adheres to our suppliers' fair use policy, if they don't and our suppliers tell us they don't we will tell you. (Our major supplier is nbn of course).

Do we allow continuous streaming media, same answer, as long as it adheres to our supplier's fair use policy, if they don't and our suppliers tell us they don't we will obviously let you know (our major supplier is nbn of course).

I am pretty sure I have answered these questions previously, and as stated we ensure that our customers are happy and satisfied. If you have an issue with our supplier's fair use policy I am more than happy to provide them your concern and maybe nbn, Optus, Telstra, TPG etc will change their policy due to your concern.

Thanks again for your question, I hope I have answered it to your satisfaction. If you are not by all means don't sign up, as we only want to satisfy our customers

        • +2

You didn't answer my question at all.

NBN does not disallow Peer 2 peer or continuous streaming media.

Where in the NBN fair use policy does it say that people on data caps can have peer 2 peer, but people on unlimited plans can not?

Looks like you are doing your typical don't answer the question and make up some fake stories answer.

        • @samfisher5986: Again, please read the answer, we allow peer to peer and continuous streaming media as long as it meets our fair-use policy. And as stated nbn provides a fair use policy to us which we supply to our customers. I don't think I can be any clearer.

        • +1

          @teleron:

Based on your previous posts and your fair use policy then… You are not being clear but I am piecing together information to try and get a clear answer.

Please show me the official NBN policy that states people on caps can have peer 2 peer but people on unlimited plans can not.

I do not believe you are telling the truth, and I would like you to prove it.

        • @samfisher5986: It allows people with unlimited plans to have peer to peer as long as it meets the fair-use policy. In the fair-use policy it does not say you cannot have peer to peer for any plans. Like I said, if you are unhappy with the fair-use policy I am happy to speak to our suppliers and mention that samfisher5986 is unhappy with our policy and if they change whether it be Optus, nbn, Telstra TPG etc, it will change just for you, as we like to make our customers happy.

        • +1

          @teleron:

Wow you are not being clear at all, you contradict yourself constantly Here is what I have gathered, please tell me if I am wrong.

Teleron has decided that people on unlimited plans can only use peer 2 peer, IRC and media applications like netflix and spotify if they are sitting at the computer.

Telerons suppliers have not decided this, this is Telerons decision on its own.

This is what you have told me based on your very confusing messages so far.

        • @samfisher5986: No, teleron has used his supplier's fair use policy and published just like my republic did which has the exact same wording (as does Optus). The message is we allow peer to peer and streaming of any kind as long as you adhere to our supplier's fair use policy. This is very clear. Again we appreciate your business if you wish to take it, but if you don't want to, please why don't you join another supplier

        • +2

          @teleron:

Ok, and you said your supplier was NBN earlier.

Please provide NBN's Terms of service that shows that your fair use policy matches theirs.

I am asking this because I do not believe you.

Also you suggest that if I am unhappy, join another supplier. Well EVERYONE uses NBN as their supplier and many other companies do not have the same restrictions that you do.

        • @samfisher5986: I think I have answered the question and maybe you are truly interested in joining and that is why you are asking so many attacking questions and hence, I am repeating myself. However, ponder this, do you think the 3 suppliers have the exact same wording for the clause you have mentioned because they are the same? or because they use the same supplier? Please don't answer, just ponder… Many thanks

        • +2

          @teleron:

You are dodging my question.. again….

You simply are not willing to admit that Teleron has a ridiculous fair use policy and you are not willing to change it because you would like to kick off unlimited users whenever you like.

If I was wrong, you would have already showed me your suppliers fair use policy that matched your own fair use policy.

This is your chance to prove me wrong, yet you won't do it and its clear why.

In your next post I expect a PDF link to your suppliers fair use policy. Not a silly post trying to mislead me.
