Been looking for a good price for the D3400 with the lens kit. Cheaper than I can find anywhere on grey market sites but added bonus of being local stock and free click and collect.

I wasn't neg'ing, merely pointing out the lack of VR which is important to some, in case they otherwise missed it. ;-)
Still a decent price as I paid around that a few weeks ago for the camera body alone.
Harvey Norman has the AF-P 70-300mm VR lens for this body on super special currently at $298.00, mentioned in last nights deals.

Why is VR so important
Lets you shoot in low light with lower shutter speeds without getting blur from shaky hands.
I can shoot by hand at 1/4-1/10 (seconds) with my Image Stabilized lenses…. needs to be significantly faster without (less light inside). Very handy for event photographers.
I'm looking for a deal on a dslr in this kind of range. As you said the deals last year were a bit better than this, but they were also closer to Christmas weren't they? I can be patient..
Yes they were. The stars aligned with good ebay deals and nikon cashbacks combining for a really good price.
How does this D3400 rate against the Canon 1300D (with VR) and is around $400 after 20%?
