please tell me how these watches are worth even $30, when anyone can buy the same crap on aliexpress for under $10?

The watches are similar but the design is different, price may vary from branded goods to non branded goods.
It could be OEM from China but lacks details on their website.

    • Be grateful. Tired of getting $159 per watch, they generously bestow this opportunity to pay 10c less than when they were unpublished for sockpuppeting this month. Apparently "this 50% Christmas sale" ends 23rd November. I thought Christmas was in December. I hope these watches are more accurate than their calendar.

    • Over 30 hours and still Associated OP hasn't answered you.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:store_representative
      Expected Behavior

Perhaps OP is barely coping with all the orders.

Be reasonable. If it isn't precisely the same W, they won't be "high quality expressions of classic, minimalist design".

    • +2

Can you prove they are the same? Legit question.

      • +4

You can't, buy for under $20AUD you can get a range of very similar looking and functioning watches from Aliexpress. It's true, they won't have a giant W, but you really aren't buying this watch for the brand.

        • +1

The same could be said for any product available. There's always a 'cheaper' version somewhere. By your logic, you should neg every deal of expensive TVs/electronics, or anything for that matter, because 'you can get a range of very similar looking and functioning' TVs from Hisense etc.

Have you purchased your AliExpress watch linked? Can vouch for it being as depicted? Can you vouch it not being a rip off of 'designer' watches?

          @thargelios:

There is a difference though, which is quartz is quartz. Unless you're looking at Grand Seiko temperature controlled in-house grown quartz movements, the function of the watches will be the same. You can't be comparing TVs from Sony/Panasonic against Hisense etc., because functionally and internally, they are vastly different, essentially making them different products.

I've bought The Horse and Daniel Wellington watches before as presents for others, as well as Daniel Wellington watches. In the end, when I took it apart to swap out batteries for them, the internals are pure crap. If you wanted a "higher quality" Aliexpress watch that aesthetically looks the same, just get one with a nice leather band and one made of stainless steel. It will be exactly the same quality as these fashion watches.

And there is no way the cost would rack up to be more than 79.50/159.

      • No problem, the enthusiastic Store Rep is "a big user" of OzBargain and will gladly post a photo of a W Time watch's movement.

        • Just don't hold your breath … I suppose they need all hands on deck for gift-wrapping.

Just get a non-branded watch from AliExpress and buy a better leather strap. In fact buy one strap and five watches from AE…you'll still be winning. To change the battery just unscrew the case back. Simple.

    • +1

Are you crazy? These versatile exquisite contemporary timepieces are high quality expressions of classic (launched 18 October), minimalistic design! They are so unique Store Rep OP's description does not inform fellow OzBargain members where they are made, who designed them, their size or water resistance, what the movement looks like, whether they use sapphire crystal, what the case and strap are made of, and their range is far too extensive for selecting any example bargains. We should just pay the money and join the back of the queue for gift-wrapping.

      • +1

        Wrapped in free zip-lock bag.

        • +1

That's the minimalist spirit! Soon, you may be thanked for "engaging with the brand".

  • Negging because Associated OP again ignores fellow OzBargain members' reasonable enquiries about the product while falsely claiming we made "a lot of requests for gift-wrapping". We are still not informed where they are made, who designed them, their sizes or degree of water resistance, what movement is installed, whether sapphire crystal is used, what the case and strap are made of, etc. That is discouraging when one considers these normal facts are available when purchasing a cheaper watch at Prouds or a similar store.

It is therefore reasonable to conclude members' suspicions regarding quality and AliExpress (or similar sources) are correct. Choosing a few minimalist models and having W or Winston added to their dials does not make that selector a designer.

This is OP's dismal return after a post recently unpublished for sockpuppeting and a previous one masquerading a terminating brand as current (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/259658) when it was instead a closing down sale (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/260925).

My assertion of the gift-wrapping claim's falsity is supported by this entire range (all 3) being reduced to $48, which OP has not yet posted on OzBargain. I sincerely hope no members experience buyer's remorse as a consequence.
