  • Any one own one of these?
Have heard it's very good compared to the SP4 except for screen brightness and battery life.

I bought one, but haven't arrived yet. Compared to pricing between Surface Pro 4 and Asus Transformer 3 Pro, its way cheaper plus you get most of the accessories in the box. Keyboard, Pen and adapters.

  • Can anybody comment on this Model Vs Surface Pro of the similar specs? Many thanks :)

Surface Pro 4 price from jbhifi https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/tablets/microsof…

Only difference is the CPU on surface pro 4 is i7-6650U. The ASUS has more connectivity ports and USB type-C Thunderbolt 3 port (which can hook upto an external graphics card like the razer core or asus xg station 2).

Also Surface Pro4 you have to buy the keyboard seperately. Asus comes with one.

      • I think the Surface Pro 4 has higher rated screen 400 nits vs 280/300nits screen on the Asus. The Asus has a slightly higher resolution display, though.

      • ntrig or wacom

  • was about to buy last week for $1999. Thanks OP

  • This vs the spectre 360 and lenovo carbon x1 that were posted recently hmmm

    • Depends on what you prefer, traditional laptop or tablet.

    • I devastatingly bought the skylake spectre x360 4 months before the lighter kabylake one with type c came out. Either version is a really really solid machine though if you don't need to use it as a standalone tablet. Killer battery life in my experience.

  • I'm so impressed with this, and how they made a box that can support two graphics cards, i want to buy this and make it my main pc.

  • Is the HDMI 2.0 or 1.4? I need it to do 4k without the dock or gaming station.

Hi All, on paper this is a lot more capable and cheaper than the Surface Pro 4 line, it also includes the keyboard and pen from what i know.

But looking at the reviews for this product it apparently suffers from poor battery life/management and performance throttling. Also it may suffer from bouts of random fan noise.

I really hoped this was the Surface Pro killer, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it. I love the fact its got USB type-C on board and its got quick charge, but it doesn't make up for the obvious flaws.

All i can suggest is read reviews first, then put the money down. I'm sure some people for their own purposes have used this fine, but i'm a stickler for quality :)

    • I'm sure down the track firmware updates would fix most issues, like the surface pro when it initially came out had issues and were later fixed with an update. Asus first attempt at the surface pro is not bad.

      • Understandably their first attempt. But to get the form factor, oh so right. but only to fail where it counts, battery life and thermal throttling for a mobile platform is horrible. You would think they would have learned from Microsoft's mistakes from SP3 and SP4.

  • This could be the Surface killer - http://eve.community/t/eve-v-final-hardware-specifications/2…

Keep your eyes out on Indiegogo Monday / Tuesday next week. Will only be 500 units available for the first run though I believe and pricing not out yet, but promising to significantly undercut the Surface. Looks great, but we shall see.

If not, I'll probably pick up a SP4 in the next few weeks, especially if Harvey Norman have another sale on them (apparently this weekend according to their chat team, although he wouldn't tell me how much discount) and I can use a few AMEX cards.

    • Not sure if it will be cheaper yet but Black Friday MS sale in the US is seriously cutting their SP4 prices up to $430 US off. Might be able to forward ship for alot cheaper.

I'm in Vancouver first week of December visiting friends. Hoping Canada have a similar sale but haven't seen anything mentioned yet.

    • Man that eve looks awesome, it will surely sell out in a minute. I will keep an eye out.

      • Yeah will be tough to get as they have about 20,000 subscribers at the moment. HN have the i5 surface for $1274 today, I might get that using two Amex so only $1074.

    • wtf whats the background to this

      why is eve making hardware

      • They crowdfunded a tablet a few years back, now they're crowdfunding a Surface competitor. Basically a bunch of guys fed up with what you get from the 'brands', usually missing one or two key features. All power to them in my opinion, if they can do it! Machine looks great based on their marketing, but we shall see in time.

        • it does look great

          whats the price tho

          i bought a second hand sp4 for $1000

          its hard to beat.

    • What is a "Surface Killer" supposed to be? Surface is a reference design. The whole idea is for others to build similar devices.

      • Term of phrase commonly used in many reviews, hardly worth a neg. Regardless, I bought a surface yesterday and am very pleased thus far.

        • It's about spreading incorrect information.

Just saw the price release for i7 $1399 USD + Shipping + customs tax. So looking at about ~$2300-2400…it ships in April of next year

  • My Asus transformer 3 pro has arrived. The tablet looks gorgeous and very light. The screen is nice and vibrant. As for fan noise, only slightly can hear the fan its not as loud as my ASUS ROG laptop at home. So if you don't mind the fan noise similar to a normal laptop then it should be fine. This tablet is mostly used at my work, so the fan noise is not noticeable in the environment. Overall it is a great tablet, best purchase I made.
