Anyone with Foxtel should be aware that, to this day, they still have not figured out how to manufacture a set top box that is capable of correctly completing the HDMI handshake process. Due to this, turning off your television may result in audio being played until you turn off the Foxtel box or having no audio until you cycle the appliances in the right order. Essentially, you must choose between using HDMI in your amplifier or HDMI in your Foxtel box. By requiring the TV remote to switch between inputs defeats the purpose of the HDMI ports on the amplifier, mostly. Optical audio is good enough for most though.

Telstra have a track record of purchasing functional products then replacing the firmware with their own which makes parts of the product non-functional leading to stupidity like selling people TV boxes with non-functional HDMI outputs and routers that cannot assign IP addresses properly.

Naturally they charge more than the device is worth without Telstra firmware on there.

      • Yep it's an absolute mess with Telstra modems.. try using Hyper-V on a machine connected to one, total disaster. It's why the first thing I did when I got my gateway modem was to put it into bridge mode and connected it to a separate router.

      • Not sure about when Telstra got involved with Foxtel, but this has been an issue since HDMI first came to Foxtel. I'm not sure how dumb their engineering team is, but apparently they're far less competent than pretty much every single team that manufactures crappy TV boxes. Even the Foxtel box has a bunch of IO that never worked, eSATA, USB, etc. all non-functional. I swear their hardware/software team are some of the most useless fools to grace the earth.

i would jump on this if it was from some other retailer other than Kogan.

Dick Smith also has it for the same price! :)

Same outfit…Kogan bought out the DSE online business.

        • Yes, as per previous deals, this is genuine Australian stock with 3 year warranty.

        • Didn't you see the !:) ?

        • @barryquinn: Haha, yeah I missed the significance of the smiley! Whoooosh! :D

    • Why's that?

  • AirPlay and DLNA certified… I wonder if it can play music from an iTunes server from a NAS over ethernet.
No Component out - darn it. Composite and Component Ins get converted into digital out ?
    Dual Subwoofer pre-out… Why ?

    Connections
    HDMI 6 in (5 assignable, 1 for HDMI/MHL)
    HDMI 2 out (1 for MAIN, 1 for MAIN/HDZONE)
    Ethernet 1 in
    AV (Composite) 2 in
    Audio 1 in (assignable)
    Digital Coaxial 1 in (assignable)
    Digital Optical 1 in (assignable)
    Component Video 1 in (assignable)
    Monitor Composite 1 out
    Subwoofer Preout x 2
Speaker 9 ch out (FRONT , CENT ER, SURROUND, SURROUND BACK, TMd/FW/Speaker B)
    IR 1 in/1 out

  • Any deals anywhere on a good 9.2 receiver?

    • +1

Greys online sometimes have new stock but it's a bit of a jump from 7.2 to 9.2 in price.

  • Thanks for the heads up on this OP. I have the VSX-923 and love it except it doesn't have HDCP2.2 pass thru. I run the computer through the 4K TV but have to input the HDMI directly into TV and run the sound back into the amp via optical.
Great price for the extra features and I will sell the 923 for a reasonable price. The 923 hasn't missed a beat and I think the pioneer is great bang for buck.

I have only purchased one other thing from Kogan and the process was fine. I would go to Pioneer for warranty - 3 years as stated. The only dealer I won't deal with online is Sony. Too many problems with delivery and support were very unhelpful.

Anyone assist with this scenario? Theoretical setup = VSX930 feeding a 4K TV and a 1080p Projector via the dual outputs with a PC as the media source, all HDMI of course. Playing 4K media to the 4K TV obviously wouldn't be a problem BUT switch the Amp output over to the projector and what happens? Will the PC handshake with the projector and automatically downscale to 1080p or will the 4K signal just be sent to out to the projector and result in a blank screen or 'Out of Range' situation? Genuine question. I really hope it can all sort itself out automatically but keen to hear from others who may be able to give some insight.

  • Does it support DTS:X?

  • I have a Monoprice HDMI Matrix (4 in and 4 out) that I use to send HDMI to only two rooms, if I use the multi-zone feature of this amp instead, are there any limitations that I should be aware of e.g. if room 1 is 4K but room 2 is not does that mean both zones are at the lower resolution?

  • With the two outputs can it do 4K on one and HD on the other at the same time? Not sure if there is a name for this (unbalanced mirroring?).

  • Is this full HDR compatible? So will work 100% with xbox one s and playstation pro?
