    What about PS4 Pro?

Nvm not on the list, guess our best chance is eBay sales.

    • +2

Seen any much cheaper than the $559 retail?

      • +3

It wont be much cheaper since its only day 5.

        But there was a deal

    • For a brand new just-released premium product, I think not. But you never know :)

  • Thanks. Any idea what the XB50BS Bluetooth Headphones will be reduced to?

  • +2

Did they clear out all those Xperia tablets? Fingers crossed if they did not…

  • +1

    Wow,
Wonder how the 43" 4K TV is as a monitor?
How's it compare with the Philips BDM4350UC 4K IPS display

    • +1

Plenty of people at WP using them as a monitor, heard no complaints.

    • It's a fantastic TV, reportedly great monitor.

I got one for $999 and felt like that was a great deal, so for this price it's a no brainer really.

      • +5

warning: sony is now notorious for input lag. input lag is extremely annoying when using a TV for a computer monitor.

        http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x830c

says that it is not great (but not that bad either). i'm using a sammy 55 from the GG deal and that is apparently 20odd

basically you need to find a TV that is 'gaming friendly'.

        • +1

This is close to top of the line performance for a 4K TV with HDR at the moment, certainly the best you will get for this price. Input lag is certainly acceptable for gaming, but yeah might be annoying as a monitor.

The only are this TV really falls down is the rather average HDR max brightness.

Edit: Also that link above is to the wrong model. This is the TV in question: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d

Specifically see that the input lag is much much better than the older model listed!

        • +4

The equivalent to the X8000D is X800D

          http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d

7.9 score for HDR gaming seems pretty decent. Though 35 odd milliseconds for input lag is quite a bit worse than your Samsung.

          Edit: Too slow :p

        • @TheContact:

          AAAH, I cant decide.

Will the imput lag make it a deal breaker?

These Samsung models, how much are they?

  • Wonder if there will be any discounts on the cameras.

    • Probably nothing major deal wise, considering they are still recovering production from the Kumamoto earthquakes.

      • is it the reason sony has not run the cashback deal for a7ii for over a year?

        • Well it's been a bit less than a year, but yes, most likely, they lost significant production capacity in April 2016 when the earthquakes occurred. It is claimed by many reports that it also affected their ability to supply to other manufacturers for phones, etc.

  • Wow, there are some really negative reviews on the Sony Xperia X Performance. Although some of the annoyances are based on the US-spec version, the sub-par camera seems to be universal.

  • +1

43" & 49" has been at this price before via EB Games deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/271574 … looks like they need to shift excess stock.

    • +4

Seems weird since this line only launched a few months ago? Anyway, the 43 inch is $650 US as the standard price so these sales just bring it more in line with what a price conversion should be.

    • I used to think of Sony as one of the leaders in television technology. I am constantly amazed at how many people I come across who compare the current models to offerings from manufacturers like Samsung and LG, and then go for one of them over the Sony. Quite a few people describe the Sony screens as having a "flyscreen wire" effect (and lag issues) when compared to many others (which seems to relate to the different pixel technologies used). I am constantly told that Sony seem to be falling behind in mobile and television screen technology. I guess if people perceive the other brands to be better and buy them, that would explain why Sony might have excess stock to sell ;-)

      • +5

I would say when making a purchase like a 4K TV, throw any "brand loyalty" out the window and research the actual model in question!

These 2016 Sony TV's are definitely one of the best picks for the (on sale) price. Android TV, proper HDR, decent input lag etc.

Use rtings.com as the best source of TV info, noting that sometimes local models are labelled slightly differently.

  • Amazing deal on the receiver…

    • +2

Good deal, but do be aware that it doesn't support the latest sound formats (atmos and X), just inc ase you wanted to use it for home theatre future proofing.

      • +1

Good point but are you seriously asking for Atmos and X at this price given the specs? It costs USD $1,400 on Amazon. How much would you pay for equivalent specs and quality with Atmos?

Besides, my view is that Atmos is great for cinemas but as far as home theatres go it's just a ploy by the industry to get people to replace their receivers.

And at this price you could replace it in 5 years (or sooner) when Atmos content becomes commonplace.

        • +1

Elektron, not at the sale price, you're right. But remember, they're saying this has an RRP of $1,800. I would expect Atmos and X at that.

Put it this way. I got my Onkyo NR646 for $1000 from Kogan and that has Atmos, X, bluetooth, airplay and Wifi. None of which this amp has.

        • +1

@carlscott1982: Good deal for what it is, but that's almost twice the price of this Sony.

        • +1

Such a rubbish RRP. No way in hell it belongs at that price. Atmos Receivers can be had well under $1000. While Atmos is basically useless atm, I wouldn't be buying a receiver without it. I'm about to get another, unfortunately limited to slim line, but no way I get it without. With those specs it's a $600 receiver at best. Not to mention receivers are unfortunately not the flavour of the month these days.

        • @carlscott1982:

Yeah, this model's a bit over 2 years old, and wasn't leading at the time it came out. Not the kind of thing anyone would pay that price for now - as said a bit later someone paid only $800 earlier this year for it. A more realistic reflection of its value and standing in receivers imo.

        • @scuderiarmani:

Sony do this often. They don't revise the RRP as the technology ages. I've seen tech stuff on their website about 8 years old, still with its original RRP!

        • +1

          @odysseus:

          Maybe they'll sell a 68cm Trinitron TV, with a $2499rrp for $500!, 80% Off!

Laughable, this receiver has the specs of a $599 equivalent.

        • @scuderiarmani:

          limited to slim line

Same here, have you found any?

I can only find three brands that do one, Marantz, Yamaha and Pioneer.

I only have about 14cm and the full-sized ones are 15.1cm, plus you need at least an inch of clearance on top for cooling.

        • @Kleetus:
Marantz 1607 seems the most likely I will go for… ATMOS and everything included, I have the 1505 I think in another cabinet, nice sound….

Didn't know of the Pioneer one actually.

        • @scuderiarmani:

I'm looking at the Marantz also but the 1506, don't really need 7.2.

It's just annoying having such a limited range as my needs aren't all that demanding.

        • @Kleetus:
I think we can blame Soundbars and the like on the lack of receivers suitable for typical furniture…

I have the 1605 downstairs connected to a couple Kef floor standers, and it gives more than adequate power too.

      • What would you recommend in this kind of price range? $500-$800ish? I was going to commit on a Yamaha RX-V681 when they were on here a few weeks ago for around $618, or even the RX-V781 for $817. Would like to be future proof for quite some time!

Just purchased a Hisense 4K TV and recently got some nice Q-Acoustics, the receiver is the final piece! Except a PS4 Pro…

        • +1

Oh man, spent most of Saturday playing Tomb Raider in 4K on PS Pro. It's just insane. The only downside is, my eyes now find 1080p real blurry! I'm at work, so don't really have time to research the latest amps, but just make sure you get HDCP 2.2 enabled HDMI ports, or your 4K pass-through won't work (for that upcoming PS Pro, which I know you will now get) ;)

        • @carlscott1982: I'm feeling so poor already…but I literally just jumped on the Yamaha RX-V781 from Amazon Germany for about $895, a bit more than last month but I just kept reading the specs and I just need it. Starving myself for a while I think!

      • Also no Bluetooth, no Airplay, no WiFi.

    • Looks like good value, but it doesn't have Bluetooth or the other baked-in connectivity options for Spotify etc, which probably stops me from pulling the trigger. As mentioned by carlscott1982, the lack of atmos is a shame also…although not a deal breaker.

    • Agreed. I bought for $799 earlier in the year and it's worth every cent.

    • +1

Also doesn't have the HDMI 2.0a standard, so no HDR. Also, only one HDCP 2.2 in/out.

A low price, but not really for the future.

  • +4

Pair this with AMEX deal for another $30 off.

  • +1

    No 55-60" models, bummer!

    • I have a feeling they will be revealed after 7pm AEDT

      • …or not

  • AV receiver now $1899.00 as above attachment :(

    • +1

Prices update to the discounted prices at 7pm.

      • so i havent missed it? 20 only though

        • Not yet. Im not on daylight savings in qld so i think in nearly 2 and a half hours. 20 may be competitive.

        • @ruddiger7: tbh i dont think ill bother. airplay/bluetooth would be handy (especially for ios app control), as would atmos for future proofing.

    • Sale is now on!

  • +1

Need a bigger TV - 49" just aint enough …

  • Can the bookshelf speakers be connected directly to a TV or do I need to buy a receiver

    • They don't look active, so yes a receiver/amp is required.

  • Which one is better quality: 43" or the 49" TV, other than the size (for those he have used or know about the TV). Thanks.

    • +1

They're the exact same model, except different sizes.

      • Thanks, are they better than this Samsung one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275704

        • +3

the KU6000W (hopefully) is close enough to the US KU6300, it appears that it is.

          in direct comparison, it's okay.
          http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300 vs http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d

as they put it … "The Samsung KU6300 provides similar picture quality, at a similar price. Unfortunately the motion handling isn't quite as good as the Sony X800D, and there is no support of a wide color gamut for HDR content (aka 10-bit colour). The Sony X800D provides better overall performance, and is the better pick. The Samsung KU6300 provides similar picture quality, at a similar price. like every cut down KS series. It's hard to know if it's ideal. as TV's, they're both okay. software is relatively good with actual TV, they both have netflix and youtube for 4k, and support 4k UHD modes for 4k blurays or as 4k monitors for PC.

Tizen on the samsung rubs some people the wrong way with it's simplistic menus. On the other hand, the Sony uses Android TV, which is a bit slower, but easier to read and use. Slower bootup and on-time, but more apps and broader support for content. side-by-side, they do a good job, but the Android TV experience is okay.

Both have weak HDR support, i don't know if the samsung actually has a 10-bit panel to show 4k UHD content or HDR netflix on,

the sony does have 10-bit HDR and works with the xbox one s for 4k UHD's, it's just not as bright as the more expensive models, which is why it demo's poorly when in a shop side-by-side comparison

        • @toliman: Thank you for the info. Appreciate it.

      • +7

Actually the panel technology is different, 43" is a TN panel, better blacks and contrast, 49" is a IPS panel, better viewing angles…

        • 43" is a VA panel

        • @Angel2305: So which is better as a monitor?
I always thought IPS was the best all round, color, viewing angles, brightness.
I always assumed TN sucks and VA was somewhere in the middle.

        • @Angel2305: Ah yes, my bad, was meant to say VA. The comment still holds true about blacks and contrast.

        • @Phoebus: ips panels generally are better for colour accuracy and clarity, although they can suffer from a bit of input lag. Oled displays have a wider colour range and true blacks, but most will have an 'accurate' setting.

    • The blacks are a bit better on the 43" from memory as with most smaller displays. Other than that, it's the same range/model.

    • I believe the 49" model has an IPS panel, meaning the contrast (blacks) isn't as good but has better viewing angles.

  • What's this input lag everyone always brings up with TV. I mainly just game, so input lag is a bad thing yes, so wouldn't a Sony TV be good for gaming considering they make the PS4?

799 is crazy for an HDR Ultra HD TV. Really considering biting. I love Sony too.

    • so wouldn't a Sony TV be good for gaming considering they make the PS4?

i had this assumption, and i was proven wrong by hours of research

i can't say whether this TV is unplayable, but if your main use is gaming, then i'd go for the best possible TV with lowest input lag for reasonable price.

to me, 43" is too small for the price. and too small these days period.

      • Set TV to game mode, turn off Hdr, and then the input lag will be more acceptable. The more features you turn on the laggier it gets.

  • Can you buy extended warranty for these - because it only looks like it comes with 1 year ?

  • Anyone else getting an error when trying to register for their store?

    • I did 10 minutes ago, no error. I did have a sony account many years ago, but somehow I can't get in with my old username (they used to have username rather than email), so have to create a new one to get free shipping.

  • +2

I think they got their times wrong - this is now active

  • +1

    Hi all,
Sale is on already on 49" at least.

Just created a new account and placed an order on one.

    Cheers

  • +1

    Yup, sale is live.

  • +1

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but I think CashRewards have 2.4% rewards for Sony.com.au

  • Thanks went the 43"

  • Just a heads up guys, sale has started early. I just bought the receiver.

  • Anyone got one of the STRZA2000ES AV receivers? I'm looking at getting this one and want to see other's thoughts on it. Looks fairly positive on some quick reviews online. What speakers would be good to pair these up with?

    • Dont! Read my comment below

  • +1

Don't forget Amex connect rebate, $30.

  • Grabbed the 49" and a receiver, cheers!

(yup, sale went like at around 6:06pm?)

Note the specified stock limits on the TVs (150 for the 49", 250 for the 43")

  • Great deal. Picked up the 43" for the bedroom. Fingers crossed for PS4 Pro deals before Christmas.

Also my order says it will ship 2nd week December btw.

  • Apologies if this has already been asked, but I’ve been looking to upgrade my 24” Dell IPS (U2412H) screen. I’ve been searching high and low for a good deal on the U2715 or the U3014, but can’t really justify those prices for a small jump in screen size and resolution. I’m considering the Sony 43” as an alternative for a PC monitor. I intend to hook the 43” up to my PC’s hdmi port which is a R9 280x (or my thinkpad with a Intel HD 620), no intention to game, mostly for watching Netflix, movies and TV shows in 720p. On that note, how does a 4k UHD monitor handle 720p resolution files? Is the upscaling any good?

    • +1

If you are using your PC, then you can set your pc to handle the scaling.

I game with my pc on a Panasonic 37inch ips panel and I still score top three in call of duty online.

      • Thanks. Bought the 43" with Amex, $769 including free delivery.

Still a little skeptical about using it as my desktop monitor - not so much performance but the viewing size.

But at this price, I could probably resell it on gumtree for as much without much difficulty I'd imagine.

Anyway to answer my own query, this TV actually gets a fairly decent rating (8.4) when ran as a PC monitor and upscaling 720p (8.0) according to rtings and 4k forums.

5 star reviews for this TV specifically used as a PC monitor with gtx1080s:
        https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1224243-REG/sony_xbr4…

        • Jesus F Christ.
There is no such thing as "upscaling"
It's a recent word invented by marketers.
          It's just "scaling"

        • It will feel weird for a week or so. You'll find you'll have to play around with the settings to get everything looking okay.

The most noticeable thing is usually input lag. I set my TV to game mode and force my graphics card to adjust all the settings I'm after to minimise input lag.

  • Sale has already started!

  • +2

Delivery wise: if you are not home, will they come back on another day or you have to pick it up from their depo?

  • Can anyone recommend an amp for the speaker for PC use?

  • The AV receiver is sold out :( i had it in my cart too… too slow…

  • +4

I have STRZA2000ES Receiver. Please be aware this is NOT HDR compatible! And Sony have told me they will not be releasing a firmware update.

So now with the PS Pro and Xbox One S I have to use the ACR ports….which also do not seem to be able to handle uncompressed audio.

Their webpage for this receiver is kinda misleading

    • Yeah, pointed that lack of HDR out in the discussion earlier.

It's okay if you want something for right now, but not for the future.
