I was at JB hifi Roselands and the guys were writing up the signs for their upcoming TV sale. The staff also confirmed the sale verbally. Did say all TVs but will definitely find out Thursday as past sales have had exclusions or particular brands only.
Please note: staff said their catalogue prices will revert to RRP on Thursday and then 20% off.
E.g Samsung KS9000 65" 4K SUHD HDR Smart LED LCD TV $4196 today back to $4496 Thursday Then $3596 on sale.

Looks like that's going to go head to head with the eBay Bing Lee sale. Nice!
20% off RRP is that even a deal?
I remember back in the day JB-HiFi had awesome prices to begin with, various markdowns on top of that and then had 15-20% off marked prices.Well the RRP for that TV on the Samsung website is $5999 (not that anyone probably sells it for that)… so your "back in the day" is kinda still valid - even if they bring their price back up to $4496, that's still a a markdown, and now an extra 20% off…
My Apologies if reference to RRP from the manufacturers prices.
Still better than Myer, which use the official RRP when first launched. I should have said JB hifi retail prices which are lower than manufacturers RRP.Yeah, I remember getting 68% off a 60" Sharp Aquos LCD TV. Oh wait, that was DSE before the fire sales kicked in.
I miss Dick Smith sales.
JB prices these days are not very competitive at all, this is the first time I have seen a respectable offer from them in years. You can get much better deals with the eBay coupons or from other stores (e.g. Good Guys were running a $300 Eftpos card promo with any 65" tv purchase). However, JB have the best after sales customer service you will find. Any problem with the TV, they will swap it over without any issue. So you will pay a bit more, but you might value that..
Goes very well with the 15% promo on tv brackets at JB.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/deals/tv-home-entertainment/prices…
Are those prices for real?
I just checked the KS9000 TV that the OP linked, it doesn't mention the TV being on sale. Normally when JB have a sale on an item they display a strike-through the original price and then the sale price below it (like this) so they're pulling a bad move on us if they're going to bump the prices up on TVs that are not actually on sale
Maybe it will be on sale on Thursday when the sale starts
LoLz.
Nah I doubt it - reckon the OP is right and JB are not displaying the price on the TV as being a sale price right now
Just had a look online, Good Guys is currently selling that same TV for a similar price but they do mention it is on sale (currently $4195, was $4495)
Let's just be open to the possibility that the sale price will display during the sale.
Not sure I can commit to that, sorry.
@AlanHB: Well the Good Guys sale on this particular TV runs till the 2nd of November so we can hope!
@alwaysupforabargain: Good luck dude! Any reason you're opting for the KS9000 over the KS8000? The reviews suggested the picture quality was similar between the two series.
@AlanHB: Actually I'm not even considering the KS9000 and not exactly keen on spending for the KS8000 at the moment either. I was considering the Hisense M7000 from Good Guys eBay a couple of weeks back till my dad convinced me to go with a series 8 or 9 Samsung. He himself just recently purchased the KS9500 and he loves it.
But the thing about reverting to regular prices just before the sale kinda bummed me out.
If I do feel like I'm ready to spend the cash on Thursday I would likely get the KS8500. Not been a fan of curved TVs but it is pretty much the same as the KS8000 and somehow it's cheaper (at least at the current prices!)
@AlanHB: Looks like they didn't bump up the price! :D
@alwaysupforabargain: Wow and the sale price showed during the sale.
It's a Christmas miracle
We all know about Jacking up, but ironically it is the Jacking down that can cause consumers trouble.
For instance, let's imagine that in September, a major retailer prints a 'sale brochure' promoting a few popular products.
Let's say the RRP of that product right up until September was known to be $5999. In that time they have sold the product with varying degrees of success, because the competition has been hotting up since July. Now there is comparatively little volume. During the last 4 months, the average price of each has dropped by 10% each month, as the local distributor has done a few promotions and discounts to encourage the retailers to sell more.
So RRP to September $5999
Avg sell prices:Mar $5799
Apr $5650
May $5600 (manufacturer cashback)
Jun $5200 (manufacturer cash-back) low volume
Aug $4999 (discounts and cash-back)
Sept $4350 (discounts and cash-back) very low volumeNow the new model is due in Oct/Nov, so the retailer who has stock and the distributor who has stock decide to do a co-promotion to clear the decks. Wholesale price, which has been dropping all along behind the smoke and mirrors of promotions and cash-backs, is agreed at $3300 for the remaining units with no cash-back. Sale price (Oct): $4199
Here's some questions for the magimaticians amongst us:
- What is the RRP for October?
- And what is the RRP advertised in the brochure distributed in September?
Note: I am not in any way suggesting that this is what has happened in this instance. But what are the chances that it has?
I don't understand your initial comment 'ironically it is the Jacking down that can cause consumers trouble'. How is this so?
To answer your question, I don't believe there are monthly price drops. In fact I don't think the sale price (or RRP, if I understood your example correctly) of some of these TVs has changed in the last 2-3 months. But most stores tend to add a special discount every now and then, such as this 20% off.
My problem with the price jack up that the OP has highlighted is that JB are not advertising it as being a sale price so as a consumer you would think that $4196 is the regular price for that TV and so this 20% discount should make the price $3356.80 but that may not end up being the case.
There are monthly price drops.
At least several decades ago when I was exposed to the industry internally (in retail-wholesale distribution), we did it all the time.
And now with competition so much more intense and product lifecycles compressed by technology lifecycles as well as competition, the imperative is only greater.
The distributors come up with all klinds of spivs, bonuses, promotions, cash-backs, retail and many more wholesale competitions, etc. All to lessen the market impact of each notch in their price ratchet. The whole point is to maintain the customer's perspective of RRP at a high price and reduce the salesperson/customer friction. It greases the sale for their customer (the decision makers in the retail chains).
Also means reduces the onus on these corporations to hire or train their sales staff.
@zerovelocity: I'm still not sure about monthly price drops though. I would say there are monthly price drops but that's only if you consider these 20% discounts as price drops. If you look at regular prices without discounts, I would say the prices may drop every 3-4 months.
As an example, I've mentioned above that I had been keeping tabs on the Hisense M7000 for around 3 months. The 65" TV price has hovered around the $2495 mark over that time (without discounts). Even last week, if you disregard the 20% off, JB Hi Fi were advertising it at $2495. It was during one of these 20% sales where I saw the cheapest price ($1916, after a $100 price reduction was already applied) but I've never seen the regular price as low as that discounted price. I would imagine that if the store could run a 20% sale with that price for a few days, then they could make that the regular price and not have a 20% sale at all. But this probably ties in with your point about maintaining the higher RRP and having a discount so the customer thinks they're getting a good deal.
@alwaysupforabargain: Fair comment-
But please remember I'm not saying they drop every month on every product. That was just a simple example.
Distributors do everything they can to monitor the RRP and the actual sell prices (inc collecting intel from friendly retailers and insiders), in order to make (what the think are accurate) decisions about the level of competition and figure out how to move the stock they want to sell a lot of.
I've noticed on some products that have high price volatility, changes can be more than monthly, whilst others can be every 2 or 3.
@zerovelocity: Ah right, makes sense. It's good to get a little insight into how the pricing structure works. Should help me make a more informed decision when I have to make a big purchase in the future. Thanks zerovelocity!
I might be wrong, buuut I think they need to show a history of a certain price for at least 6-8 weeks or something according to the ACCC to have a sale that is 20% off. So in other words the sale is off the average price which might be quite a saving or hardly a discount at all. Just my 2 cents.
Nah. They simply show the (jacked up, or if you are following my argument above, 'jacked down') ticketed price.
There are plenty of products in the shop that the salespeople know are ticketed high (by 'whatever' cause) and they simply offer better deals on those once a buyer turns up that suits one.
The ACCC never audits the actual sell price of each product, something that the shops can do in an instant (a single query by sell price and date range in their system). All they do is say, show us 'evidence' and the shop spews back pictures of ticket prices and other such pfaff.
You seem to be believing the ACCC/gubmint line. The ACCC and DFT are not only one or more steps behind by definition, but are hamstrung, de-clawed and have had all their teeth removed. JB/Macquarie Bank enjoys a good gumming these days, basically treats them like a harmless old mutt and simply tells their master to call them off, once they've had enough playtime.
I'm interested in the LG OLED55B6T. Will the 20% of include this TV?
Currently it is priced at $3998. Will this price be jacked up?
you'd be lucky to get the OLEDs on such a sale but if you're lucky you might get a steal. I doub't they jack the price up form $3998 as that's the price its been at for a while i believe
Just bought it - $3198.40 :)
I am after the sony 75 8500d it was on Bing lee for $3900 a month ago now $4400 at JB
Not that good a deal
I notice that Harvey Norman often quietly match Jb hifi prices, so there might be an opportunity to get an even lower price from JB if HN are evenly priced on the day. Just saying
Im looking for the Sony Bravia 65" X7500D Series Ultra HD LED LCD Smart TV cheaper than $2100. Currently 2.8k at most places but Sony.com.au had it for 2.3k a week ago and BingLee had it for about 2k in NSW.
5k for a tv is a bargain ?
I got stop visiting this site. It's broken.
Yeah i see your point but if you are in the market for big uhd, thats it.
This site swings between various types of savers from "5k for a tv, awesome!" to "I don't waste money on toilet paper, I just shower afterwards!".
I try and find the happy medium :)
hrmm you shower?
Also note, the sale is one day only. 20% off will only apply on Thursday.
Aslo remember the LG $300 cash back promo on selected models.
http://www.lg.com/au/promotions/SuperUHDPromo2016
And Samsung 36000 velocity points for selected models which can be redeemed for $200 JB Hifi gift card. (Please check velocity for other redeemable items)
http://www.samsung.com/au/velocity/Any recommendation for 24"? I'm comparing this one with Kogan.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-24-led-tv-hd-dvd-player-c…If choosing to buy a TV from JbHifi or BingLee - would post-purchase service/warranty/returns be much different?
Never had to return any large appliance with either of them but I would assume they offer similar post-purchase service/warranty/returns.
although I don't think they accept returns, unless there is really a big issue…
Warranty: they would refer you to the manufacturer.(esp for the big TV)JB hifi consumer law. According to this you are covered even when the manufacturer 1yr warranty expires.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Documents/Consumer%20Warranties%20…Warranty: they would refer you to the manufacturer.(esp for the big TV)
They wouldn't and legally they can't do that.
That's what jbhifi did to me. Bought a sony tv and had very bad "dirty screen effect" so they swapped for another, that did too so i paid extra for a samsung. On delivery that was bleeding light in the top corner, they said they werent replacing another tv as they had replaced 2 already and i have to contact samsung.
@HSV:
Legally they can't, they're the retailer and they have to honour the warranty.
It's the customer's choice if they want to deal with the manufacturer, not the retailers.
Samsung KS9000 vs LG 65UH950T? Thoughts?
As many have referred to rtings website, you have to check and compare our models to the US models. The Samsung is favourably better. Also you check on choice.com.au but it's a paid subscription. A friend at work has the subscription and looked up the 4K TV's review and the KS9000 is highly rated.
Yeah like OP says the Samsung is favoured more. I've read a lot of online comments that say stay away from LG this year unless it's OLED.
Been eyeing these two particular models any thoughts reviews are mixed. Anyone owns the 65UH950T care to share there experience pros and cons.
Likewise Samsung KS9000 owners pros and cons cheers.
I have been keeping an eye on the Samsung K8000 55" flat tv
At the recent Good Guys ebay sale it was priced $1996Today's price as follows
Good guys $2495
https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-55-inches140cm-suhd-l…Harvey Norman $2495
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tv-blu-ray-home-theatre/tvs/t…However JB Hi Fi currently lists it at $2696
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…even at 20% off at the current price, the final price of $2157 is $160 dearer than the Good Guys ebay sale price
At the RRP its bound to be even more expensive!
Hopefully Good Guys have another ebay sale soon
The Sony X9300D 65" 10-bit and Samsung KS9000 65" 10-bit TV are very tempting.
Have to go to the stores and check them out first.
PW, just bought the X9300D (x93d) at Costco for $3699. Its worth the membership as you get what is known as a satisfaction guarantee as long as your membership is current say In six years time your TV develops a fault, you contact the manufacturer and if they refuse to repair your TV you bring it back to Costco and get a full purchase price credit to buy another TV !
The bonus on the Sony is that it runs Android so you can load plex on it and it streams all your movies and tv shows from your PC wirelessly perfectly. You can also download Kodi from the play store and then download The Beast, google that and see what a bonus that is and what it does. None of the Samsung's, Panasonic's LG,s let you do that, just android based interfaces of which Sony is one. If you take down some downloaded stuff in 720p and 1080p on a usb stick you will see no other tv can match the processing power of the scaler in the Sony. Don't just look at the demo super hi def demos playing that you cant get on normal broadcast playing on a loop on the showroom floors.
Thanks for the info on the X9300D, I'm looking at buying one of these sets as well. Waiting to see what JB's pricing will be like …
smuglex, thanks for sharing your Sony TV review and Costco shopping experiences.
Buying at Costco will end up paying $400 more than JB plus another 6 years Costco membership cost an extra $360 and combine the total of $760. It's not worth to pay the extra $760 on a Sony brand TV IMHO.
Sony is always my first choice when comes to buy a new TV and sound system. I know Sony is the only brand can last for decades. In the past, I bought over 5 Sony TVs and still in excellent condition and never need to send back for repair.
Well we are a family of five and use the membership weekly so we do not see it as a expense. What extended warranty gives you your purchase price back after 8years or more to be used for another TV ! We loved our old Sony kdx65 but died after 8 years loyal service.
We compared the Samsung 9000, LG 950T and OLED and the new Panasonic 9000. The Samsung and LG were woeful on anything other than hi def source as the scaling of anything less than 4k or TV to a 4k image was no match for the Sony. The Panasonic was close but did not have that Sony lifelike color reproduction that others cant quite match. The LG OLED was great but if you look at those lovely lush inky blacks you notice you loose detail in them that can be seen on the Sony.
The fact that it has Android also saves you the expense of a media player that can run plex and kodi to give you unlimited free TV and movie content with a cable or NBN connection
What's NBN?
NBN = National Broadband Network.
Update, on the 27th Oct went back to Costco to buy a 55 X93D for a family member as well and found it for $1728. Found the TV i purchased a week ago on special for $850 less than what I purchased it for a week prior. On telling the staff the sent me to the front desk for a price match and in a few minutes later they were asking me if I wanted the $850 in cash or back on the visa.
The Panasonic dx9000 was not on sale but very happy with the 65" Sony x93D for $2750 and the x93D 55' for $1728. They both run Plex and Kodi perfectly on their Android operating system so its another bonus as you dont need any additional fancy set top box as the inbuilt player plays everything back even 4k content without a hitch.
I have a 60" Panasonic Viera and it's still amazing to this day. I'm looking for an entry but good quality 4k TV around the same size. Any suggestions?
Hi Dagmar, was that the Plasma or LED?
It's my first ever plasma.
Ha in that case you'll have a tough time finding a TV that will live up to expectations. If you weren't looking at entry level I'd say trying to get the LG OLED B6 55" (mentioned above too) for as cheap as you can find it. I think you'll be able to manage $3k.
i'm assuming it won't include the factory scoop tvs?
I'm looking for a 4K tv for the bedroom to play games
Nothing too big
Any recommendations around the $2000 mark or less ?
I'm looking at the Sony KD43X8000D if it goes on sale again. I missed the recent eBay sale with Sony Australia. I think they were selling for just over a grand. :(
Bedroom <= 40"? You'd be hard-pressed to spend $1000.
In last GG sale I was looking at Samsung 55" 7000 series for about $1500, which I believe is too big for bedroom.
Will this be Aus-wide?
Any recommendations for 40-50" around $1000? Is Samsung really higher rated than Sony?
Hi guys. Right now I have a Sammy 46la750 1080p tv and the picture is awesome with my Xbox One.
Been thinking about getting an ultra hd tv and was wondering if anyone out there has an ultra hd tv and an Xbox One and could tell me how the picture is?
CheersBought KS8000 from JB less than a month ago. Really annoyed me when the Good Guys ebay deals came out and it was $500+ cheaper. If it goes cheaper with this deal, I might go back to JB and ask them to credit me the difference on a gift card to buy a sound bar.
See if they have price guarantee like the good guys. Within 30 days.
They don't officially have any price guarantee, although it wouldn't hurt to ask.
There have been cases where they have, but that's usually within a few days or if they were having the cheaper sale.
Just be happy with what u paid and move on. That's LIFE!.
They gave me the difference :). Big ++ for JBHIFI, can't fault their customer service. This is the sort of thing that keeps me loyal to a store. I read quite a few other people have had success with this in the past, so I tried too. Doesn't hurt to ask. On big purchases like this I think it is reasonable to have a 30 day price guarantee.
Any recommendations for a PS4 Pro? I'm interested in HDR TVs. I've kind of got my eye on https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…, but I don't know if it's going to be a great deal, even at $1200.
From what I can see, PS4 Pro only supports HDR10. Is that what "HDR Premium" is?
The TV is 8 bit HDR and not 10.
You will pay more for 10 bit, up to you if you think it's worth the extra.
Ah I see, so that's what that 10 refers to. It's a bit confusing when Samsung calls it HDR 1000
My Samsung 60" (UA60JU6400w) form a previous deal 6 months ago just died and is up for factory replacement - any opinions on either the series 7 65' (UA65KU7000W) or series 6 60' (UA60KU6000W)
—- the K/6000 series doesn't seem to rate as good as my old one!!
Has this been confirmed yet? I haven't seen any emails or anything on their website.
I wonder if this will include Soniq?
I have just called JB HiFi Roselands store and spoke with Connie, she confirmed 20% off all TV's tomorrow except Soniq and Teac.
Excludes: Soniq, Palsonic, Teac, Sony 75x9400, Samsung 55ku6000 and Samsung 65ku7500
What about all the "Red Hot Deal" items? They're not discounted online.
How was Connie? Good?
Looks like the deals are up:
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…
All TV's except Soniq & Teac
Incorrect, more exclusions than that:
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Global/Promos/2016/10/20161026-20-…
Alright OZB, need a decent TV around 1000-1200 55".
Any recommendations? Got JB gift cards bought with ANZ credit card points to use!
Exclusion list is longer than mentioned earlier. See:
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/Global/Promos/2016/10/20161026-20-…
And some not on the list, notably anything marked "Red Hot Deal".
OK OZB I need help, thinking of getting the 65KS8000 but motion blur in game mode puts me off a bit:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu4PowUGy3U
Is it really that bad?
No. Just get it and be happy, it is a steal at these prices and one of the best TV you can buy.
is this a good tv? keep seeing it mentioned
Im after a 4k 55" or bigger around $2k
dont do gaming just tv and movies
its for parents so they wouldnt know the difference between oled or motionblur or whatever
phwoaaaar Wouldn't mind a bit o' that.
Hey there, wouldn't mind a bit of decision making done for myself..
This… https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…
or
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…cheers in advance!
I'd say go with the Samsung
Cheers!
JB Hi-Fi you a**holes.
Gives us the X9400D and at 20% off!
:(.
Missed out on the sony.com.au deal about a week ago for a 55x9300 @2149, it was only up for a day or so and then the price changed to $2498. The only person saying on Ozb. that they bought one at the lower price had their order cancelled.
So I am stoked that Jbhifi just sent an email confirming the order for 2047.40. Looking forward to unwrapping this one.
is the sony better or the samsung ks8000?
