Not too bad of a price but if you can find the Sony 65X8500c around the 2k mark it would be a way better deal.

The Sony basically scores the same in terms of picture quality and runs Android which is way better than this Tizen crap. Most importantly you have 1k extra cash in pocket.

    • Yea, after 15 months of updates mine runs slower, EPG updates are slower and more sporadic, and the UI refresh made it far worse to use. We so need to be able to run a third-party firmware on Samsung TVs.

  • It is a bargain alright and the best LCD on the market for the money according to rtings. Paid over $500 more than this for ours :(

    • CNET review doesn't think so. In fact probably one of the worst Samsung tvs made.

      • +4

I will trust rtings review on TV rather than CNET, Cnet are more general and review everything from phones to headphones, etc. Rtings is mainly focused on TV.

CNET have also got in trouble before for biasing reviews based on who their "sponsored advertisers" (see: bribes) are.

        • +1

I used to think like that, but it really depend on the reviewer.
CNET TV reviewer David Katzmaier really know what he's doing, and his review are generally spot on.
Steve Guttenberg also good Audio/High end speaker reviewer on CNET.

  • Honestly though, can anyone actually tell the difference between a high end 4K non HDR and a HDR one? I can't.

    • +1

the lack of content for 10 bit HDR makes comparisons difficult. could argue for future proofing but with the snail paced NBN rollout it'll be years before most can even contemplate having the internet speeds required to view 4K content, let alone in HDR format

      • I have Bigpond Cable and Netflix 4K HDR works beautifully - no issue at all. And we do not have NBN either. The biggest issue though is data.. we only get 1TB a month, so easy to blow that if not careful..

Yeah I have a 4K tv, a none HDR Samsung, I'm on Optus Cable and 4K looks good, noticibly better than 1080p, even on only 65inches. HDR TVs in store generally do look better than my TV however. But maybe that's just because it's a low end 4K TV. My old man has a 70inch non HDR Sony UHD TV, and it looks considerably better than mine with all content, but also as a match or better than most HDR TVs I have seen in store (colour and blacks). I think that while 4K is an obvious and huge jump over HD, the jump to HDR is either not perceivable if you have a good TV or largely non existent. (We are big on separate 100mbps cable connections so streaming content is no problem).

  • I bought the 55 inch model 2 weeks ago.

    Absolutely beautiful tv.

    • Just got mine yesterday, play FTA tv better than my old FHD tv. Have not test any 4K materials yet, may go down JB Hifi and get a 4K movie tonight.

      • Unless you have an Xbox One S you won't be able to play it. (Or one of the ultra rare/expensive 4K bluray players).

      • Get The Revenant UHD. It is the best example of 4k HDR.. looks absolutely incredible. Expensive at $50 at JB though. I think Sanity might be cheaper. I ordered mine off Amazon UK.

      • So you're happy/impressed by the HDR 'upscaling' of FTA? I wasn't able to view it instore so was a bit concerned as my 4K and even HD content is limited.

        • Ya, seem to be better than my 3 years old Samsung FHD Series 6. I suspect the wow factor will happens once I watch 4K content or sports, now waiting for SBS to broadcast the next EPL games.

        • @stargalaxy: great, thanks stargalaxy.Enjoy!

This was my second choice after LG OLED, real debate because saving 2K, but went OLED, didn't want to compromise.

The Samsung 8000 series is crazy bright, fantastic colour reproduction, great de-judder (better than LG), couldn't comment on the built in OS. Savings over the Samsung 9000 series and not wasting money on curves or 3d rubbish.

      Picking up my LG tonight!

      Excitement

      • I am in the same situation before but choose Samsung due to cheaper price. I find the OS quite user friendly but don't know how it compare with LG.

I bought a Samsung LCD TV a number of years back for $2k (still going) and that came with a 3 year warranty. Now we spend $3k+ and they only have 1yr cover? Seems like progress……wtf?
