ANZ QFF Black CC 75,000 QFF Points ($2,500 Spend in 3 Months) @ $0 First Year

1241

It's back, for those who last cancelled the ANZ credit card more than 12 months ago.

75,000 points when you spend $2,500 on purchases within the first 3 months.

For an example of what 75,000 points can get you, see thegeekinasuit's comment.

No annual fee for the first year.

There's some doubt as to whether this is applicable if you don't have an Internet Banking account with ANZ. Although it's labelled "Internet Banking Offer", nothing in the terms and conditions suggests this as an actual condition. Many anecdotes on this AFF forum thread also support the understanding that this offer is available even if you don't have an ANZ internet banking account. If you don't want to take the risk, open a free & no fee account with ANZ. Either way, the letter of offer will confirm whether you have an annual fee, and how much. Normal fee is $425.

Set a reminder for yourself to cancel before the 12 months mark. Or just cancel when you get your 75,000 bonus points.

Before you do, though, don't forget to claim this.

  • Get two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year for use when flying on Qantas or Jetstar.

Minimum income requirement for ANZ's Black cards seem to be $75,000. The minimum credit limit is $15,000.

This deal should be compatible with ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures CC + 40,000 Velocity Points + 1 Free Return Virgin Flight Per Year + No Int Trans Fees = $225 Fee if you want to double dip.

Update [18/10/2016]: I have received this card, and got verbal confirmation over the phone about eligibility for the waived annual fee 1st year and the 75,000 points promotion. I opened this account without having any other ANZ accounts (except a CC cancelled >12 months ago). Several others have also confirmed this in the comments.

      • Thought about that, I'd only earn 4500 points then…
I think monetary wise 15k in points in worth about $100, not sure how much its worth in flights though

But 90,150 points sounds better than 79,500 points :)

        • +2

Personally, I don't think it's worth the fee but I'm sure some might disagree with me.

        • QFF worth around $1/100pt if using for flights. so you're losing money paying the fee unless u wont make the amount otherwise, but u said you would… so do 3k on CC and rest by other means.

    • Get the bonus points by paying the first $3k - Wait a couple of months, get the points, close the card

    • +2

If you're willing to sink $200+ into points, you're better off sinking $225 into the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures CC + 40,000 Velocity Points + 1 Free Return Virgin Flight.

      • Sweet, thanks

        • Oh, just realised this other deal is for Velocity Points
That doesn't help, I let my Velocity points expire cause I never fly Virgin

  • I got this card around 6 months ago when they had the no annual fee for first year plus 75k bonus qff points. I have been considering if i will keep it after the first year but feel that it is a good card with high earn rate, 2x free qantas club lounge invites and extra insurances.at this stage i am leaning towards keeping it.

  • +1

Applied yesterday without an ANZ account - will let everyone know if I get the annual fee waived or not

EDIT: Chickened out and withdrew the application after seeing a few comments adamantly claiming I'd get stung with the fee. If the annual cost was under $300 I'd have probably grabbed it anyway for the QFF points, but $425 is a bit too high.

    • +2

When they send you the card, they'll also send a Letter of Offer. That letter is required to lay out the annual fee, as well as interest rates, etc. The annual fee does not get charged if you don't ever activate the card, and instead call up to cancel.

      • Oh that's excellent - I suspected there was a cooling off period but didn't want to risk being slugged with the annual fee. I'll be sure to take complete advantage of this in future!

  • i had it before and only closed it recently, so i can't get it again :)

    • Thanks for the heads up!

  • Worth getting just so I can use ApplePay!

  • Last time I got this card, they never sent me the lounge passes. Did I need to ask for them?

    • +1

Yes you have to call the concierge and ask for them explicitly

    • Yes, you need to call their help line and request them. It took about 3 weeks for them to arrive

      • Is this just for Qantas lounge passes, or priority pass as well?

        • I believe you just have to flash your black card for entry to priority pass lounges.

        • +1

@dazzywazzy: It's not Priority Pass. It's a different scheme, which includes some (but far from all) Priority Pass lounges.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Ok, so just show your actual credit card at some Priority Pass Lounges (I saw DPS- Bali for example is excluded).

Apparently Veloce Lounges which can be Priority Pass…but only some….head scratch!

  • I am excited that the offer is back and it has finally been over 12mo for (I missed the last deal because of the 12mo issue).

Keen to hear from someone without an account, signing up and getting the offer.

    • +2

I got this 2 weeks ago. No other ANZ account. No annual fee charged.

      • Great, just got an account and applied.

Think I am going to double dip if possible too, I want the free flight one!

    • Also got my card activated today. No ANZ account. No annual fee charged on my statement so far.

      • Nice! I just got approved.

  • does spending work, with paying rent? currently i just bank transfer $700 a fortnight to my real estate agent, could i essentially do this with the CC?

and will this work even if i have a current low rate credit card with them?

    • No. They should still give you the bonus points, but you'll need to spend $3k with merchants, not make transfers (which would be the same as cash advances).

Things which can be used to rack up the payments:

      • Utilities bills.
      • Car rego/servicing/insurance.
      • Gift cards (more useful for groceries you know you'll be buying in future).
      • Student fees (if you know any international students, this is a gold mine).

      Good luck. :)

    • Transferring funds by using BPay or direct debit usually causes a Cash Advance feature of a Credit Card, therefore you will be paying cash advance fees and the interest rate on cash advances usually starts on day one.

      • Bpay is dependent on the Credit Card bank and the vendor.

Commonwealth Bank took that option away for Bpay to count years ago.

When I had this ANZ card last year BPAY was still applicable as credit for points.

To check vendor, goto the Bpay website enter the vendors details, and it will show if the vendor's Bpay account accepts bpay from credit cards, if it doesn't credit card use will be a cash advance

  • Thanks!

  • How much do you have to earn to get it?

    • +1

As per OP's port, Minimum income requirement for ANZ's Black cards seem to be $75,000. The minimum credit limit is $15,000.

  • -2

Guys, don't forget this card also gets you Qantas Club membership for $475 first year- which is exceptional value if you travel much. It would pay for itself after 2 or so return trips with a companion on QF pricing a lounge entry at $50 (I know QF don't allow paid entry).

    • -1

It doesn't get you Qantas Club Membership, it gets you 2 entries into Qantas Club by calling them and requesting the 2x Qantas Club Passes.

Therefore you can only go into it once with a companion which uses up both Qantas Club Pass.

      • +1

It also allows you to purchase Qantas Club membership for $475. For most people it's not worth it, but for some it will be.

        • Ahhh didnt know that. Good to know haha.

  • I dont want to get a keycard from ANZ. Can I open a savings account to eligible?

  • Not sure why people think new customers may not be eligible??
    Their small print:
Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account. This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

I ordered one so will see if they try to charge me for the first year.

    • I think they are saying that it is available for everyone but the first year annual fee is only waived if you apply via an internet banking account.
Mind you, they should make this clearer!
Please let us know if they charge you.

      • You are right, I called up today and was told that while the 75k point signup bonus is available to all, the annual fee being waived was only for internet banking customers.

        • Just to clarify, are internet banking customers those who dont have an account with ANZ ?

        • @XedeX: It was all a bit confusing as I believe the guy on the phone was just trying to get an immediate signup. His exact words were that the offer above (75k points + no annual fee) was only for existing internet banking customers and that they would have already received the offer in the form of an email.

I will be trying to sign up for one of the fee free savings accounts and going from there.

        • Ok, so i have received my cards and have received (while at their branch) confirmation that the annual fee would be waived. Process was easy.

  • +2

Similar offers with same $0 fee in first year, and spend requirements are available for lower level cards:
ANZ Frequent Flyer - 25,000 QFF Points (min. annual income $15,000)
    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/offers/ibfreque…
ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum - 50,000 QFF Points (min. annual income $35,000)
    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/offers/ibfreque…

This may be useful for some.

Nothing about Bpay, so I assume as long as the vendor accept credit cards Bpay is good for points

  • Does getting multiple credit cards in Australia work like usa? Where you can get multiple cards but your credit score goes up over time as long as you pay your bills in time?

Like if i took multiple cards same time, or over a period of 6 months- does it Make a difference to the credit score?

    • In Australia it actually works the other way around.
The more cards you get the harder it gets to have a new one (or a home loan) approved.
Even if you are never late with your balance payments.
I know it does not make sense but it is the way our banks work.

      • It should start working like that, as you build up bill payment history, but none of the financial institutions seem to be recording this info as yet, so they're relying on nothing but the crude finance applications history.

      • So getting 3/4 cards and cancelling them makes no sense - because it's the initial ding on your credit score which counts? Even if you pay everything back?

No wonder we can't do any churning here.

        • Of course it makes sense. Just doesn't really help you get more cards to cancel them. Cancel whenever they lose utility - some cards are just good for earn or benefits (e.g. Amex Platinum Card - high fee, huge points bonus, and extraordinarily good travel benefits).

  • I applied for the card yesterday and this morning recieved a rejection. Any idea what might have gone wrong or is there any way i can re-apply to fix something. Really want this offer. Any suggestions?

    • Not sure it's good to reapply but might be worth going for the platinum instead as it's minimum limit is 6k as opposed to 15k of the black. Should be easier to attain.

    • Perhaps give them a call to find out what the issue was first. & check your credit score online.

    • either you have not ticked the boxes that are listed for qualification or you have too many cards with credit limit that is too high.

      • Even cards you have already closed will affect your credit history in negative way.
That's the way it works here.

        • So you're saying getting 5 cards in 1 year is no worse than 5 cards in 5 years? As an example of course…

        • My point is that no matter how many cards you closed for the last N years, what matters for a your credit history is how many you opened for the last N years.
Also it does not matter if you never had any bad debts.
N can be 5 or 10 years. I just do not know.

  • Thought I'd share my experience. I had an ANZ card 18 months ago but my online banking wouldn't login as it was disabled.

I ran and asked about the annual fee and the agent said it was for ANZ customers only.

I then opened up a online saver with debit account. This took 2 hours and it was activated.

Rang ANZ to re-enable my internet banking. They confirmed I'm now eligible for no annual fee.

Applied online whilst logged into online banking, application was referred. They emailed me in 2 hours and I sent in my payslips. Approved in 24 hours.

The "free" account I opened requires $2000 deposited there each month for free otherwise it will cost $5 per month. I will most likely cancel this card once the Qantas points hit my account so laying $5 for a couple of months won't break the bank. If I remember, I'll transfer over $2k then transfer back to my own bank.

    Hope this helps others :)

    • or just cancel the "free" account once the credit card is approved/issued.

The requirement is to be an existing customer at the time of application (and apply via online banking), but there is no requirement to continue to continue to hold the other accounts for the life of the credit card (or for the first year of the credit card).

      • Negative bud. According to the AFF forums it is taking two months minimum to post the Qantas points over to your QF account once minimum spend it met. If you cancel the card before you get the points posted you will not get the points.

        • +1

They meant cancel the bank account not the credit card. Besides, I got the deal 2 weeks ago, no other accounts with ANZ. No annual fee charged.

        • @jdogg:

Looks like depending on which ANZ customer service rep you get depends on which advise you get. I'm not one to jump into things without all the info so this comment was simply for those as cautious as me who still like to rack up half points.

Absolutely happy for you that you took the risk and it worked out mate.

          Cheers

        • +1

          @dazzywazzy:
Thanks mate, yeah I think maybe the service reps have been told you need an account as just about everyone who called them has said you need an account, however I think in practice you should be ok. But yeah either way it's not that much of a hassle to open a bank account anyway.
I think I will cancel the card after I get the points. Will just push me over the required points for a RTW Explorer fare in business. Can't wait for that!

  • So I may have accidentally scored myself an even better version of the deal…

Went into branch yesterday to ask if I could apply, said I was happy to open a low fee account to get the deal. Banker said I shouldn't need to open an account so we went ahead with the application. While going through she told me the points should be awarded on first spend which I queried as I knew there was the $2500 on this deal. In the end I just went with it. After I got home I realised this separate deal for non-existing ANZ customers also exists and that must be the deal she has applied to my application https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/….

After stressing I was going to be charged the annual fee I called up the credit card services line today to clarify - after going through and approving the application they told me to check in branch regarding the annual fee waiver and said they would have the authority to waive the fee if that's what was offered to me. Emailed the banker I applied with, she discussed with manager and said in writing the fee will be waived!

So I think I've ended up with the points, no annual fee and maybe only need first spend to activate! We will see what happens :)

    • Good work. I wonder how straight they are with the offering of fee waiver (doubt they'd just say yes to everyone who ask).

    • +1

Hey mate any update on how this worked out for you? Sounds too good to be true!

I have no experience with this credit card/qff stuff. I just want the points to help book an upcoming flight.

How many days from the application were you able to start spending the points?

      • So far so good, have been told the points will be applied after first spend and assured there will be no annual fee. Have made first spend so now waiting for points to come through. Usually takes at least 1 statement period for them to appear.

  • just received my card (applied with no online account). Haven't recieved letter of offer yet, however this will come in a seperate letter. I did however give ANZ a call and they confirmed that the 75000 points and no annual fee offer has been loaded into the account.

So i think its fine if you applied with no online banking account.

    • Same situation here, had to call to confirm, but the offer was applied.

  • +1

Received my letter of offer today, which said nothing of the $0 annual fee or bonus points offer. Called ANZ prepared to cancel the application, but they confirmed that the letter of offer was generic and both offers applied on my account. I don't have any other accounts with ANZ.

    • +1

That's strange. I received my cards and letter of offer as well. And under the annual fees and additional card holder fees - it first states the fees and then there's a statement that says "…fees are not applicable in the first year". Double check your letter offer. There were two sets of letters, it's the second set that has title "letter of offer" that says that.

The only thing letter of offer doesn't say is the 75k bonus points. Called and spoke to two separate staff and they checked the credit card it's certainly has that eligibility , they said it's just doesn't get included in the offer letter. I'll take their word for it.

One other thing for those wandering about it being internet banking offer - I didn't have an account with ANZ. Whilst activating the card I asked them to register me for internet banking. But the letter of offer already waived the annual fee before my internet banking was created.

      Now to spend the $2500!

  • just realised the Amex should also give you 2 access to the Amex lounge as well

    • Never knew about this until you mentioned it.
      I had a look here: https://www298.americanexpress.com/benefits/platinum/us/en/#…

So, do you just walk in, show them your american express card and you're in?

EDIT: Also read there's unlimited complimentary access to velocelounges.com as well ?

      • Only Sydney's Amex lounge is included. You get 2 free entries a year.

        • I understand the 2 Qantas Lounge entries per year…

I just went onto https://www.velocelounges.com , put in my first 6 digits of my CC, and it shows a heap of lounges.

          And on here: https://www.anz.com.au/content/dam/anzcomau/documents/pdf/fr…
          It says:

"Unlimited access to participating airport lounges outside Australia through Veloce4
Regardless of your airline or fare, when travelling internationally, you and your additional cardholders will enjoy the comfort of unlimited access to participating airport lounges. "

        • @Deviner: Sorry - I was referring to the Amex link you posted. I was pointing out that bank issued cards don't get you access to Amex lounges worldwide.

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Oh right, no worries.
I'm just mostly posting for someone to clarify if that's correct or not because I have no idea! :D

        • @JohnHowardsEyebrows:

Anz one will get you in Sydney twice. Amex direct card will get you in worldwide, but at a cost of $50 per visit unless on top tier card. Ie not platinum Edge.

        • @tunzafun001: Correct. From what I've seen, the lounges in the USA would be well worth the $50 price of entry.

  • So, regarding lounges this card offers:

    1. Two Qantas Club lounge visits at Syndey Airport. The next flight should be Qantas or Jetstar. Passes should be ordered by phone in advance;
    2. Two American Express lounge visits at Syndey Airport. Just show the card at reception;
    3. Unlimited access to lounges in the Velocé network around the world. Just show the card at reception.

BTW, how American Express lounge is compared to Qantas Club lounge at Sydney Airport?

    • Qantas club lounge or Qantas business lounge (& not limited to Sydney Sydney)

    • +2

If you're flying internationally from Sydney, you'd be silly to use the Qantas passes. The Amex lounge seems to have higher standard food and drinks, and you won't have to use your passes, which can easily be sold for $50-60 apiece on Gumtree.

  • Stay away from the Fyshwick branch. I should have waited 10 deep in line at the Civic branch to do my application.

  • So, looking to fly to UK or round the world in the future. Looks like Singapore Air / Cathay give you the best value for points? So will need to transfer points.

Am I better off with the QFF or (non QFF version) ANZ REWARDS Black? (both no annual fee, both 75 000 pts)

    https://applyonline.anz.com/dsr-cc/creditcards/apply?apptype…

Looks like QFF conversion rates are poor. Wonder if you can still get 2 x QFF lounge passes if you call up with the non QFF Black card.

    • For Reward Black, you can convert the 75,000 reward points into KrisFlyer Miles or Asia Miles at a rate of 3:1 (i.e. 3 ANZ points for each frequent flyer points), or into velocity at a rate of 2:1.

I haven't looked into the number of miles required for flight redemption but I would imagine the poorer conversion rate from ANZ to the FF programs (i.e. 75k QFF points vs 37.5k velocity points / 25k KrisFlyer Miles / 25k Asia Miles) would negate any advantage in the value per FF point.

      https://anzrewards.com/public/redeem_category.aspx?deptid=83…

And, no, you won't get the Qantas lounge passes with Reward Black.

      • Cheers, this is doing my head in.

My issue is I currently have around 60000 Amex Plat Edge Points, and 70000 Citibank Signature points and am looking to pool them all together with one of the 75000 point ANZ products.

Looking at this example to italy… http://www.pointhacks.com.au/using-points-italy/

        It gets even more confusing!

I will need to see what the conversions are for my AMEX and CITI cards and for QFF conversion as well (as you have given me above the 3:1 for the ANZ Rewards Black, thanks for that). Any reference tables out there?

Also, the current 20% Etihad bonus may become a factor if I convert to Velocity.

Then it looks like the taxes payable changes between airlines.

I can see why people take the gift cards, and then be content with that to offset a bargain economy flight.

        • The best place to start would be to check the conversion of the Amex Plat Edge Points and the Citibank Signature points to the various FF programs. Those information should be readily available from either the banks' websites or the FF programs' websites.

It would help to know if you have any significant balance with any of the FF program.

If you don't, then perhaps it would be helpful to pick a FF program that you would be able to convert points from all of your bank reward programs to. (Which kinda rule out QFF since you won't be able to convert Citibank Signature points into QFF points. Don't know about Amex Plat Edge Points.)

It would also help if you know where you wanna go as it determines which airlines you could actually wanna fly with, which then determines which FF program could get you a seat with those airlines.

If you're after a round-the-world ticket, as oppose to a simple return ticket, then a OneWorld RTW ticket (through QFF) might give you better value. (http://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas-round-the-world-classic-…)

Finally, you might also wanna consider whether you will earn points from your daily activity, where which FF programs they go into. At the end of the day, the FF points are only useful if you've got enough of them.

Yes, tax and points required for redemption can be different between airline. Eg, it costs a different number of velocity points + $ to book a reward seat on a SQ flight to the number of KrisFlyer points + $ to book a reward seat on the same flight. It's mostly a trade-off between whether you wanna spend more points or more $. But it might be something for another day. It's gonna get overhelming if you try to look at all those things at the same time.

        • @Love a bargain:

Thanks again. There is a Nice Points convertor on Points Hack. I've attached below as it might be useful for others. Looks like Verlocity is the one in common, and can actually yield more Singapore points as an intermediate step. Or, use the 20% Etihad bonus.

Also, looks like a flight starting from Singapore will save significant taxes.

Citi apparently can earn QFF (see bottom of table).

        • @tunzafun001:

Looks like Verlocity is the one in common, and can actually yield more Singapore points as an intermediate step.

Not sure what you mean by "yielding more Singapore points as an intermediate step." From what I understand, you loss points each time you transfer before velocity & KrisFlyer.

As for Citibank, yes, you can opt in to earn QFF points (& I believe there is an annual fee associated with that) but once you've earned Citibank' own reward points (as is the case for the points that you've already got), they can no longer be converted into QFF.

        • @Love a bargain:

          Anz to Kris= 24975pts
Anz to Velocity to Kris = 27777pts

*just read Etihad may charge a conversion fee per flight sector from Velocity, so they might be out.

** If I had my time again I would have gone with QFF cards across the board. Might even apply for Anz FF and try my luck.

        • @tunzafun001:

Oh right, I see what you're saying.

  • ANZ online transaction…. delayed?

I can only see transaction up till the 31st… confirmed I guess and not ones I made that day.

So does that mean ANZ doesnt show transaction live.

Does that mean I can't check my transaction until after 2 business days or after the month end?

    This is bewildering.

    • It appears that they don't show authorisations but only confirmed transactions.

  • Contemplating between this deal and the Westpac Black deal and was going to apply through Westpac as I'm an existing customer but ANZ is offering 20k points extra so seems like the way to go given you don't need to have any existing accounts either?

      Porque no los dos!

          According to Urban Dictionary

"Por que no los dos?" is a Spanish phrase meaning "why not both?". It was bastardised when first introduced to the English language from an Old El Paso advertisement, where a family of mexicans are feuding over the difficult decision of either having soft or hard shell tacos for their burritos.

The phrase has since become a frequent part of the Australian vernacular, particularly to bogans with limited knowledge in Spanish (such as myself), where "por que no los dos?" can be exclaimed in any given situation where a decision between two options has to be made.
