Wow working for Jb its hard to keep up with all these awesome deals from GG that JB has bought out.

    • +33

Better than working for JV though…

  • Great price for the cashback LG TVs.

  • Would love to know what people think is the best bargain out of the 50-60inch tvs, looking to spend around $1-1.5k. Will mostly be playing video from the computer, sound through computer speakers. Smart features don't interest me so I am a bit annoyed the Aldi deal seems like it excludes WA :(. Thanks in advance for any help, I'll try do some research myself too :)

LG 55UH652T 55" UHD HDR LED Smart 100Hz TV $1196(ebay.com.au)

      -HRD
      -100hz
      -UHD
      -Lower end of your budget
      -Middle of 50' and 60'

You'd be silly not to buy two of these

      • About to hit purchase on this…..anyone know what model this shows @ rtings.com ? Wouldnt mind seeing a review

        • +2

It is up to you and for the price, it might be acceptable. But my experience with the LG UH770T has turned me off the brand entirely. Even their top end 950 model had really bad dirty screen effect.

        • @nubzy: What do you mean? Is there a widely reported issue with LG tv's?

        • +3

@katz: Yes. Search google, very common problem with them. It happens to all LCD TV's to some extent but this year it really seems like LG is the worst of the lot.

        • +1

@katz: lg uses ips panels on most of their tv, which generally has inherited issues with poor uniformity (usually on white backgrounds) compared to va panels. Unless you are really look for it, i dont think it will be an issue for most people, but the best way to know for yourself is to see it yourself

        • @Hunga: For me, it was so bad I had to return the TV. Looked awful when watching the AFL or playing Forza.

        • @nubzy: that's such a shame, on paper their tv's are very competitive for what you're getting for your money and their ui apparently is one of the best. If only they went for the safer option with va panels as opposed to ips

        • +2

          @Hunga:

Just don't go into a store and expect to see it on the display models. They are set up for their lighting (normally fluorescent), and are also set to be ultra bright. If you watch tv in a loungeroom with massive fluoro light though, then fine :) ).

May start a little war here, but LCD's and LED's were being pushed so much instead of Plasma's, because of the retail margins being much higher (cheaper to produce than Plasma)…. nothing to do with quality, as Plasma was much better (better contrast, true blacks) and LCD/LED have to try and compensate by interpolation software (guessing where the ball will be in the next image, as they aren't fast enough to go without).
Only thing that Plasma had against it was higher power usage (and only burn-in if you left it on the same image for hours, before someone throws up that old chestnut).

        • +1

@Storm: Yeah i'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Back when deciding whether to buy a plasma or an led tv was a thing, i had always preferred the better contrast ratio of the plasma's vs leds brightness. I still believe that led's had their place though, especially in commercial environments where the ambient lighting is bright. To me, better contrast ratio has always been one of my top priorities especially when it comes to consuming media (which is why i think people shouldn't rule out va monitors just because it isn't IPS). But hey, at least affordable OLED's is coming where you can have the best of both worlds, albeit very slowly until other manufacturer like samsung adopt that tech in their mainstream tv's

        • @Hunga: Speaking of affordable OLEDs, the 55EG910T is $2156 during this sale.

        • @Storm:

Weight, power consumption and burn in were also issues - although I believe newer models had screen savers or some such.

        • +1

          @Wallyt99:
Burn-in was only an issue on the first models. They would only be an issue on later models (like our own 8 year old 50" Samsung) if you left it on a still image for many hours. If the kids pause a game for 30 min and there's some image retention, then you just turn it to a tv channel for 10 min to clear it.
Power was also an issue with the early models (doubled as heaters :) ), but even my 8 yr old plasma is only 25% hungrier than an LCD of the same size. Small price to pay for much better image quality though (and no lag when watching sports etc.).
Weight… I think all larger tv's are heavy, no matter what screen tech they rely on.

One thing which isn't the fault of either tech (and something some stores used as a tool to direct you towards one tv tech or brand over others) is the channel they are broadcasting…. some channels have such a low bitrate it's embarrassing…. e.g. Discovery channel, Nat Geo etc. Anything below 8mbps is just getting blockier and blockier.

Digital television transmission (the big con) was never better quality than analogue, it was only better for the broadcasters, as they suddenly managed to squeeze 10 channels instead of two through the satellite transponder. Money saved and money made. I spent 10 years in digital tv broadcasting in the UK.

      • I was looking at this one too as it seemed the best in that price range but if it has really bad DSE and uses an IPS panel I'd probably reconsider. The last LG TV I had had an edge-lit IPS panel and it was unbearable for dark room viewing (combined with some pretty bad backlight bleed).

    • +1

I'd be researching refresh rate for anything you plan on buying. Otherwise games could be unplayable

      • All modern TV's support 60hz refresh rate that PCs and gaming consoles use. I think you mean input lag or response time?

    • Still have no clue what to buy :'D… reading reviews just made me even less sure… Seems like I'm not getting a TV anytime soon :|

    • Bit the bullet and bought the KS8000… you only live once, right? :D

  • +1

Can anyone get the store click n collect option (for TVs or Bluray players) to work?
When I click the select store option, it takes me to the postage section.

    • I tried for a soundbar but it errors on checkout, makes the deal pointless…

      • It wasn't working this morning for me, but at checkout I was able to choose from local stores, to collect 2 items from same store.
May be try a different Web browser.

  • Some of these deals were mentioned in the main post and note that the LG T&Cs specify that the $300 cashback doesnt include ebay purchases so will be interestibg to see if the goodguys reciept mentions how it was purchased.

    • -5

Unfortunately, the receipt mentions eBay… I don't think the cashback offer is applicable

      • +5

Purchased oven, fridge and Dyson over the last 2 sales. Invoice has had them listed as web orders, no mention of mine being from eBay.

      • I have also purchased from TGG in the past and got a normal store invoice.

        • Same here, bought a dryer in the last 20% ebay and got a normal invoice.

  • Why is it cheaper to buy a 50" TV than a 40" one? If I had room for a massive TV, I'd buy one - but there's never any deals on a quality 32-40" TVs :(

    • +3

We had an early model 40" tv that i wanted to upgrade to a slightly bigger size. Thought 46 may not be much different and thought 55 WAAAY too big. Bought a 50". Brought it home and compared it to the 40. As the bezel was sooo much thinner, i think the 50 is only about an inch wider than the old one!

    • +1

I got a Panasonic 40" today. Been eye-ing it for a while. Checked it out at JB, and generally preferred the Panasonic over the Samsung.

      UHD and Smart TV.

Upgrading from a 32" FHD Toshiba to 40" UHD. Similar to roonie below, I think the overall size isn't going to be significantly bigger as the old TV did have about a two inch wide bezel.

Also note that the samsung series 8 and 9 tvs qualify for 36000 velocity points. In the easiest form you can turn these points into $200 worth of coles or woolies gift cards.

  • The LG 49LH600T 49" also is priced very competitively at $870 after 20% off.

  • At checkout: "Looks like this code isn't ready yet. Please try again later." Tried on two different items, same error.

hehe I'm too eager to get my grubby hands on a new monitor before the missus has time to stop me :)

        • Great thinking ;)

    • This deal starting at 10 AM

  • Thanks OP - looking for a 55 inch TV but confused between Samsung and LG, anyone using Samsung 55inch series 6 UHD? hows the quality and motion rate?

    • We bought the Samsung from our local GG store less than a week ago.

Very happy with the quality, buy seriously pi**ed that they dropped the price so much, so quickly.

      • Bought a TV from JB and now with this promo it is over $500 cheaper at GG. But what can you do :(

  • i bought a 65 OLED for $5800 2 weeks ago, listed price on Ebay is $6295, less dicsount will be heaps cheaper. Will Good Guys honor the price drop?

I also bought a Fujitsu Air con on the weekend for $894, less $100 then less $125 rebate.. i wonder if they will come to the party there too.

    • +1

Will work on whatever they have listed in stock on their ebay store. Jsut checked their ebay store and they appear to have a number of LG 55 & 65 " oleds listed so should work.

    • +2

I don't think so. Read that someone tried to claim a price drop, but they said they will not honor it against their own store. Also I think eBay covers the difference in these promos, so unlikely.
I feel your pain though. The TV we bought from JB is now over $500 cheaper with this coupon..

      • correct, i tried claiming price guarantee on the chromecast 2 after their own price dropped. said they wont match their own store

        • i filled out the form on the website. couldnt select Good Guys so just did the top one.., once i worked out the actual differences less rebates, etc i could have saved around $450

    • Check if your credit card offers price drop protection!

      • i think it does! great thinking!

        • good thinking. how does this work? if one bought it via paypal which is linked to credit card. Hmmmm..just checked. It is only within 21 days. I bought my TV from good guys ebay just under 30 days ago. Obviously, goodguy can't price match their own ebay store.

        • @koala9:

i have amex linked to paypal, and used the same card in store.

          just finding out now

    • Hi Berger,

I've been looking at AC too, what discounts did you get?

      • i got a Fujitsu 2.5KW for $894, less $100 for last weekend promo, less $125 rebate.

see what good guys list online, and see what rebate they do, i think upto $300 for a big unit

        • hmm I couldn't see either or those. Is the rebate through Good Guys? the manufacturer one finished a few months ago.

        • Did you actually manage to get the $125 rebate? I read in the terms and conditions that it was only available if the air con was purchased at full ticket price.

  • Imnot sure they will as its not good guys doing the price drop. Its ebay who covers the difference. Good guys are still charging the listed price which is what they get.

    • at the end of the day, i could buy from ebay or the store, pickup the same location. its around $900 in my favor if i had of waited 10 days.

their price match excludes ebay retailers, but its unfair to exclude themselves

      • Are you saying the in store price is different, to the eBay list price?

        • no, i'm saying when this promotion starts, it will be quite a lot cheaper via ebay GG store..

        • @berger:

But this is an ebay promotion and not a GG one, ebay pays for the difference and GG is charging the same amount at the end. So do you claim this against eBay?

        • +1

          @berger:

It's like a rebate. It's been offered by someone else, not the actual store. Why would they match it?

  • Is oled better than samsungs quantum dot in the 55" models? That price premium for oled just seems not worth it

    • Yes.

      • +2

Damn it why did you have to give such a decisive answer

        • Heh, sorry Sammy. They might look comparable in the store, but once you get those two home, side-by-side, its night and day. Keep looking, and try and find the best price you can on the LG E6 in 55 inch. Essentially a perfect television.

        • @carlscott1982: what about larger than 55inch

im looking for a 65 or 75 inch

what are good models in that range?

        • @furythree: Same model, E6 (not quite the flagship, but the only real difference is the sound quality). The only reason I mentioned 55 may be the perfect TV as opposed to the 65 was that the 65 (at least the first batch, which you may still get) had some noticable banding issues that the 55 panels didn't have. I have the 65, and haven't done the banding test as I don't actually want to know if mine has issues (out of site out of mind).

      • Seconded… It's crazy good.

Comments on that Sony 65" Full HD KDL65W850C?

    • Seems to be a good 1080p screen.at 65" 4k will be somewhat noticeable with the right source. check rtings.com

      • Thing is I only use the TV to connect it to my HTPC and watch movies and tv series downloaded. I don't watch TV or sports (my work schedule does not allow me to do that. Do I need 4K for that considering that a 65" is more expensive?

  • What's the difference between UH850T and UH950T? I'm considering between these 2 and the samsung 55ks8000w. Any opinions? Thanks

    • +1

KS8000W.. trust me. You do not want LG unless you enjoy dirty screen effect and vertical banding. Just take a USB in with a panning sky if you want to check.

      • I am in same bota, looking to buy LG or Samsung - LG has DSE and Samsung doesnt have very good reviews on product reviews…

Which one you guys prefer ?

        • +1

The Samsung KS8000 and KS9000 series are probably the best LCD you can buy at the moment and a real bargain with the coupon. They have minimal DSE, very good blacks for a LCD and quantum dot technology.

        • @nubzy: Thanks Nubzy

        • @nubzy: wtf this is like complete conflicting feedback compared to the comment above

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4075200/redir

          im so confused now

        • @furythree: No it's not. nubzy said best LCD. The one's in your link are OLED.

    • I'm in the same boat. Only thing that is pushing me to the LG is the additional screen size (60 v 55). But I think I'll go Samsung.. I've had a good run with them.

  • Anyone able to comment on the quality of the TCL?
Or is the Aldi one better value?

    • probably similar to Aldi, however aldi is a 65inch and i dont believe its a smart tv. i have a tcl at home 3 years warranty and has been good for general kids viewing

  • Can anything beat Samsung KS8000 65" in the HDR10/Quantum Dot factor? Other than OLED, of course.

    • According to this site: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/65-inch/best That is the best tv after OLED.

      • Yeah Rtings is good, I've had an extensive look at them. Seems it really is LG's OLED #1, and then Samsung's KS8000.

        • Just bought the 55" KS8000, have been waiting for a deal to come thru for some time.

  • Thanks mate, literally saved me sifting through every TV deal! :)

  • -2

Are there any deals on iPhones?

  • Whats everyones recommendation on 55" 4K out of the above lot?

    • I have been looking at the uh652T this morning, magic remote and web os 3.0 , going to see if JB will price match this.

      • Do let us know. We bought a TV from JB about 2 weeks ago. If they price match then I will go back and ask them to credit the difference too. Somehow I think it is unlikely though.

      • I was in there yesterday and they said they wouldn't. :(

Looking at the LG 60UH850T - best they could do was $2900.

  • +1

    Re: $300 Cashback,
It says in the T&Cs that:
"Purchase does not include:(iv) purchases via eBay or other online bidding or auction".

So not sure if the $300 cashback would work? Unless you go and price match I guess

    • I mentioned that first thing this morning, earlier in the post.

      • yep sorry didn't see that..

  • Need a cheap 42or43" to display some material at work. Nothibg fancy.

Which of these would be better.
    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-GVA-G42TV16-42-106cm-FHD-LED-LC…

    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-GVA-G43TV15-43-108cm-FHD-LED-LC…

    Thanks

    • If you don't mind the size, go the 42. From what I can tell, they're exactly the same (other than the extra inch of screen). The 43 is a rip compared to the 42.

      • Thanks mate.
