I wouldn't pay that for a Phantom 4 now you can get the Mavic for $100 more, so much smaller and better features.

That's good for you but who cares? The Mavic is not a replacement for the Phantom, they do different things and have different uses. Your negative vote is pointless.

      • Could you explain to difference? From my research they have the exact same use case and the Mavic has better features.

        • Video quality is different, check out videos on YouTube.

        • @mabovb: Yeah, it's not so much different that it would be an actual issue though.

        • @stuhtb: wow you linked to an old video, which he has since corrected stating that he had it out of focus in this video, might pay to do a little more research next time ;) https://twitter.com/CaseyNeistat/status/781527005615579136

        • +1

@garvani: is a pity that he has since lost the drone🙄

        • +4

@ausbob71: yeah i watched that the other day, he is really gutted.. aparently it just stopped responding, there goes the anti-flyaway features.
DJI seriously won't be inviting him to any more launches haha, first he makes the above video and doesn't take it down once he realised he had made a huge mistake. And now hes got the first well documented fly away.. Atleast he isn't a paid shrill but the damage he is doing to their brand is immense

        • @garvani: This seems to be a factor for any drone. To have $1000 or more fly away from you must be devastating. Especially when that kind of money isn't pocket change.

        • +1

It's lighter so isn't as good in strong wind and doesn't have the same instant stopping power for one.

But it's lighter and easier to carry. Different use cases in my opinion.

        • @emwolf: some early reviewers notice that it's more stable than the Phantom 4 though, but I have a hard time believing that as well.

      • It is my opinion, are we not entitled to opinions are do we all have to agree with yours?

        • +6

Opinion is not a justification for the neg. Two different products, Mavic is not an update to the Phantom 4, it's a completely different line

      • +1

I agree with DAN13L and I rather buy the Mavic with all the extra features.

Just because you don't care doesn't mean we have to agree with you.

      • nah the IQ of Mavic is pretty much the same as Phantom 4, the difference is less than 10% I'd say if there's any. The obvious FOV difference is there though.

    • Also theres another mavic version out now too, can find it on amazon.. has a 1080p camera and is quite a bit cheaper

      • And what model is that you speek of?

        • +1

i think bestbuy canada have broken an NDA http://www.bestbuy.ca/Search/SearchResults.aspx?path=ca77b9b…

There was always 2 versions of the Mavic, 2 went through FCC certification 2 months ago but only 1 was announced which i thought was odd at the time.

        • @garvani:

Great thanks for the link, i see it being full hd but i can only see it being 30fps :/ would hope/think it would be 60fps or more :S

        • @garvani: This really sounds odd. Why would they not announce it at the same time?

        • @zacsg1: hmm yeah you would think it would be 60fps.. Wait for a more reliable link, i think they have jumped the gun on this.

@YellowKnight: Its a typical tactic, hence why Nvidia etc usually announce there flagship models first, revenue gathering… then you announce the cheaper models once all the early adopters have purchased the most expensive option, you will also capture people that would have brought the cheaper version had it been announced at the same time.

The cheaper one will come, and its most likely going to be called the Mavic S, or potentially just the mavic. Because its not officially announced the specs arnt out yet but it may also be lacking lightbridge.

        • @YellowKnight: wish i had bookmarked the source i had a few weeks ago, cant find it now.. but heres a google translate of a japanese page reporting it https://translate.google.com.au/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-TW&u=h…

        • @YellowKnight: The new model may follow the Phantom 3 name, the 1080p version may be called Mavic Advanced.

this has been the same price for sometime now. But grey imports aren't worth the hassle for something like a Phantom IMHO, there's a million and one things that can go wrong and local warranty is a blessing.

Would this model be ok for taking photos and video while flying over my investment property?

I just want to make sure the tenants are taking care of the property

    • Yep would be great

    • +1

Might want to check into laws before heading too far down this road. Not that I know what the laws are, but it could be a minefield.

    • +2

I just want to make sure the tenants are taking care of the property

Yeah, that's not creepy and intrusive at all..

    • you sound like a good landlord!!

anyway you can't fly within 30m horizontal distance from people. there are many rules, just check them..

    • Might be the same as general P.I. regulations. Anywhere outside the house is okay as public can see all that. No diff than google cars taking pics or council taking arial view. No pics looking into the house for obvious reasons

  • There is also a 5% instant discount, I don't think it's targeted cause I'm not logged in with my DWI account and I get this at checkout:

$1623.20 delivered at PC Byte after C20TEC code might be a better option with local warranty.

Is the stock arriving internationally / has GST been paid on it? I thought DWI shipped from overseas… meaning you will pay alot more due to import charges.

  • DJI have stated that they will not fix any of their products not purchased from an authorized reseller.
