LIFX Globes - White 800 $19.99 USD ($26 AUD) - Colour 1000 $39.99 USD ($52 AUD)

890

Hi All,

Currently i am obsessed with LIFX globes; slowly converting all lamps to wifi enabled. I noticed today the globes seem to be on sale, $10 off the whites and $20 off the colour. Not sure if anyone has any functioning coupon codes. I tried a few but to no avail.

In addition to the sale i also noticed they have a couple of new products. They seem a bit expensive though especially for the LED strip:

LIFX+:
Brighten your space, even in the dark. With the help of infrared the LIFX+ takes your smart home to another wavelength by enhancing the vision of your home security camera

LIFXZ:
Fine-tune your lighting with custom controlled LED strips. Select from a spectrum of color for 8 individually addressable zones and express your creativity. Illuminate under cabinets, cornices or behind televisions for the perfect bias lighting.

  • Good price - had I not bought 5 bulbs from the sale of originals, I would have gotten these for sure !

  • Hope this isn't a stupid qst but does the colour globe also do the colours that the white 800 does?

Yes, all variants of white - and a bit brighter.

I am an old school. What is the purpose to have a wifi lightbulb? Is it because winter is so cold that one just doesn't bother to get out of bed to switch off the light? Is the light switch is too high or too low that is beyond reach? Is it because the sensor light doesn't work and one doesn't have an led light on the mobile phone. Does one require a disco light at the front door? OR does one just want to demonstrate that one is a high tech geek. IMO a bit far reach to get an wifi lightbulb.

Does it go like this. Phone to lightbulb and start the PC which link to the router, smart TV, central air conditioning and tablet which switch off the security alarm and send messages to my phone telling me that the light is on and the security alarm is deactivated. I like this idea.

For a hacker and thief, it is good to know that the light is off.

Please excuse an old fart like me.

It allows you to do stuff automatically:
      - Wake up with lights getting brighter
      - If you gear near home with phone (your street), turn lights on. Reverse too.
      - Set lights to randomly go on/off while you're on holiday.

Some people like that functionality. :)

Ta. Let there be light - a "lightbulb" moment.

There are limitless capabilities of a wifi light globe. There are silly things, like:
-Flash certain lights a certain colour when things happen, eg you get a text message, when somebody calls you, your football team scores a goal etc etc

For me realistically, the functions of the following are great:
-Being able to dim a light that doesnt have a traditional dimmer switch
-Not having to walk around the house before bed turning off all the lights that have been left on. One press of a smart phone button and the house is in darkness
-Being woken up by a light that slowly gets brighter over 30 minutes before my alarm
-The lights coming on at sunset automatically
-If im on holiday the lights can be triggered automatically to appear that someone is home

I have spoken to LIFX many times about homekit.

One day I finally got it out of them that the existing stock would not be Homekit compatible and they have no plans in the near future to release a hub that would make them homekit compatible.

They may have in the works a new range of homekit compatible bulbs but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I have 20 lifx bulbs at home and I wish I purchased hue. Being on iPhone they just have better support and product range.

I do have a raspberry pi with hklifx setup on it, but it is nothing but a headache.

If you are on android and plan on using Samsung smart things, then this could be a good option.

Can someone please tell me if the following is possible with one of these lights:
    - Have it be full on (no dimming) during the day
    - Have it really dim during night time
    - Turn it on and off using the wall switch while adhereing to the above to specifications at all times.

I want it to be used in a bathroom, and have people turn it on and off during the day manuall with the wall switch, with full brightness. I will then manually turn it on just before going to sleep at night when it can act as a nighlight for the kids if they need to go to the bathroom.

Just how dim can these lights go?

    • +1

      Yes I believe so.

If you turn the switch off, the light turns back into the state it was at when turned off. Then it'll sync with wifi, and pick up the schedule, dimming. You can set it so every day at xyz time it will turn on and at x-brightness. Then you can set schedule to turn it on full brightness during morning.

They go very dim. A single bulb, especially if coloured red, will put out WAY less light than a mobile phone screen.

    • Yep, stickman is fully correct

When you turn it off at the switch obviously it is off. When you switch it back on it goes back to the state it was in before it was switched off. If you want full brightness you immediately after switching it on, turn it off and back on and this will default to full brightness.

      • Great, thanks for the help

  • I'm anxiously awaiting my last order to arrive, shipping by Hong Kong Post is so slow.. (on top of waiting a week from order for stocks to be replenished..)

    • +1

sorry those orders have taken so long. please shoot us an email at [email protected] if you don't see them next week.

  • Can anyone recommend a good way to integrate these lights into your PCs music player such as winamp or musicbee? At the moment only the phone apps use of the microphone is allowing the lights to change colour to music. I tried the official lifx app but it didnt seem to hve the same microphone control the phone app does?

      Maxlifx

Is the only one i know. If anyone knows of any other please advise

  • Got my LifX bulb and started writing a Pebble app to control it!
The current apps are set up mainly for colour bulbs (which I don't have) and don't have brightness control (which I want).

The REST API is pretty good!

Good on ya. I use the 'IFTTT Do' app on my android wear which is very simple and easy to use

  • I ordered a LIFX globe on the 5th of October. The order confirmation email says "Please note: You will receive an email notification once your order ships". This still has not arrived. Has any one else received shipping confirmation?

    • I ordered 7th Oct and also haven't received a shipping confirmation. Might contact them on Monday.

    • There was a note on the site saying that orders from Aus warehouse wouldn't ship until 12/10. Maybe the stock got delayed

  • I ordered and got an order confirmation on 18th Oct - they deducted the money from the card the same day too (thought they deduct only when they are ready to ship but maybe I'm getting mixed up with Amazon).

Sent an email to [email protected] but haven't had any response. So no way to track etc. Getting a bit frustrated with the wait and more so the lack of communication/visibility.

Anyone else who've ordered around the 18th and received their bulbs?

    • My orders from around the 18th were delivered within seven days.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat. Agreed, there should be more communication from LIFX on the matter. If you look at the webpage it shows the following message:

Stock Delay: Please note E27 Screw for AU and NZ orders is currently in transit and will ship out the first week of November.

So I'm guessing you also ordered E27 screw and should be shipped out this week.

      • +1

Yes E27 screw it is - one each of colour and white.

Thanks for that - hadn't seen the stock delay note on their website. Guess I should be expecting them around mid next week.
