Why is it allowed for ebay deals and not allowed from Groupon?

    • +66

Because it could possibly save someone from buying something today without the 20% off.

        • +21

Whether or not EC posted it with the same intentions, the outcome will be the same.

      • +25

securing the referral link is also a factor. this deal is sure to make some good money. nothing against EC though, I don't mind it. It's up to the user if they want to use the referral and it needs to have 20 votes before someone can see it. But looking at a page of his deals, 36/42 (85%) of his deals have referrals so financial gains are definitely a motivating factor.

        • -3

          Good on EC

        • +14

Good old referral links, should be all random imo, too many posts here just for the referrals

        • +2

@tassieeagle: indeed. And that's why people just put placeholder post so that none post it and get benefitted. But we are neg happy mobs..

        • +5

Put the minimum votes to 75 before the deal poster's referral link is shown and the spam will stop very soon :)

        • +9

financial gains is definitely the motivating factor for these referral spam

          ClipIt summed it up nicely
          "
          EC's post stats
          14.2%
          groupon.com.au 110 6.0%
          iherb.com 84 4.6%
          read.amazon.com 82 4.5%
          amaysim.com.au 72 3.9%
          amazon.co.uk 56 3.1%
          catchoftheday.com.au 53 2.9%

Notice that every one of those stores has refferal links? Maybe he's just after refferal clicks?"

        • -1

@payton: Wow. I did not realise that anyone on ozbargain would be THAT mercenary!! Reinforces my point that allowing OP referral links discourages free and early exchange of information on OZB. Moderators seem to not care!!

        • +1

          @payton:
Stats speak the cold hard truth.
Nearly all EX's posts are money driven.
Sure, people may benefit but it's all about generating referrals whilst keeping a friendly chatty manner which in itself is good for business.
Everyone's "friend" EC wants to get paid.

        • @King Tightarse: "Money driven" I disagree. I believe that most posts are by people looking to contribute to OZB for the benefit of everyone else, and not themselves. It is part of being in a 'community'. And if EC hadn't posted this deal, then someone else would have - possibly someone with unselfish motives.

        • +1

          @peck:
My comment was in answer to Payton and the stats of EC's posts. I have edited it to make it clearer.
I think we should just abandon referrals or make them random only. Motivation to post could return to "sharing" & "helping others".

        • @peck:

It's been debated and explained in this thread and we've made adjustments. We have guidelines and posting limits. So please don't say we don't care as we've spent a lot of time on this issue.

        • @neil: Thanks, Good to know. As I am sure that it is good to know that some of us have id'd the motives of some posters and are not happy.

        • -5

          @King Tightarse:

@ King Tightarse and @ pyramid

As neil pointed out, you had your chance to rant about this here

You were also instructed by scotty here not to use deals or other forum posts to discuss these issues

The mods implemented changes based on your complaints

As far as i see, this has been resolved in March this year

          Have a nice day

        • +1

          @easternculture:
You don't like having those stats exposed and discussed, do you EC?
You would much rather bury them because they show nearly everything you post is monitized or or has the potential to be.
But don't worry EC they are completely legitimate. They come from your own info right here on Ozbargain!
          Anyone can see them
          Cheerio.

        • +2

          @easternculture:
Goodnight sweet prince, pleasant monetized dreams ;)

    • +3

Let the votes decide.. You can always neg

      • Not a valid reason for neg

    • +3

Touting for referrals should not be allowed as it introduces a selfish reason for posting deals.

      • -1

Everyone is playing according to the rules. I don't see an issue with that.

        • +1

Then the rules need to be changed!!! So many people share info on this site for ultruistic reasons. Otherwise people will be keeping info to themselves until 'start time' and then post the deal pushing their own referral.

  • +2

    Wow!!!

    Big Kev here.. I'M EXCITED!!!!

    • Love the Big Kev repetition here.

"Again first to be relieved in Australia on Ozbargain."
    "relieved"

    adjective
no longer feeling distressed or anxious; reassured.

    • -1

speaking of being relieved - i need to go rob the baker :P

    • It has since been changed to "revieled" [sic]. Which doesn't even have a definition.

  • +13

Food coupons suck on Groupon. Vendors make you feel like a scumbag for using it

    • +7

I make them feel like a scumbag if they make me feel like a scumbag. If they offer shit service, I complain to potentially both Groupon and the restaurant for poor service. I often end up getting the scoopon for free, and sometimes an offer for a free meal from the restaurant themselves too.

Having said that, I haven't had any terribly bad experiences. And.. maybe importantly, I don't expect much. I don't expect good service regardless of whether I have a Groupon or not. I only complain if I get bad service.

      • +2

Bet free meal includeds lots of little extras

    • My friend got straight up kicked out of a bar (Attik in Melbourne) for trying to redeem theirs.

  • Hey Ozbuddies, How are we rating these powerball tablets on the deal-o-meter? Quantum vs All-In-One?

what are the chances of refunding them through Groupon?
    Anyone done this before?

    • +1

i've refunded stuff before on groupon. but don't worry since sea world is excluded from this anyway

    • +1

Yes, once I bought a local deal, they have 7 days refund policy, give them a call and see if you could get a refund, explain to them about the 20% discount, they might give you some credit of the differences into your account. Good luck.

  • 30 minutes and I'll find out what the coupon is.

  • Eyeing on the TODO food slicer. Hopefully it's not worse than Maxim.

    • +1

I looks identical to one i bought from Kogan which was rubbish. Speed of blade too slow and rusted very quickly.

      • Was the one you bought 200w? I am trying to decide between getting this or just wait for another deal on the Maxim from Good Guys.

        • 150w mine was. So maybe this one is 25% faster im not sure.

  • Has anyone tried this?
