    1366 x 768

    Here we go in 3…2…1…

    • what 3 2 1, its fine for the size of the screen and in line with the price you pay, you could even play some games on the APU

    • I'm on the 1366x768 is shit bandwagon.
More so on a 14"+ screen.
I'd let it pass on a 12" device.
I have an X220 here (12" notebook) and really hate the 1366x768.
1920x1080 should just become defacto for small displays, with 1440p and 2160p being premium options.

posted as a bogof before. but this time you don't need to get 2 pos's

Getting kicked in the nuts once instead of twice is a good thing I guess.

two poops for the pushing effort of one

Was probably 1100$ 2 years ago

No deal mate:: Unless you are buying this for kids

AMD A8-7410 2.20 GHz with Turbo up to 2.50 GHz :-(
    8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz :-(
    5400 RPM HDD :-(

Not to mention the 1366 x 768 screen, why was this ever over $1k???

Even if buying for kids i'd rather just buy from Dell Factory Outlet's refurbished selection

Cheap laptops like these are more of a burden for the "Family IT Guy" than the poor SOB who has to use it every day.

    • +3

Then you should make a rule that the IT Family Guy (ITFG) is in charge of all IT purchases.

To make a purchase, please make a selection from the list of laptops the ITFG has approved.

Purchasing a device not listed in the Family IT Purchasing program voids all warranties and guarantees set out by Family IT Guy.

  • No bargains unless $400 or less.

  • You Will think by now the minimum optical should be Blu-ray..

    • I'm surprised it even has one.

    "1366x768"
    Kill it with fire!

I don't see any specs that would justify a price tag above $600 except the Dell logo

  • Not a bad price. Have a look at the shops now & see what you get for $549— not much. Lesser CPU, lesser RAM…

Maybe not the "best deal", but okay for the $$$ in a pinch.

I'm still disgruntled over not buying the $830 amazon laptop (w/i5/12GB RAM, 4GB DDR4 GPU, 256 SSD— due to no AU warranty…damn).

    :P

    • What brand was that laptop? Lenovo?

  • +1

Paying $1000+? I think the current price for that laptop should be around $674.00 (it's on sale at Dell too).

Note that the Dell store version doesn't have a touch screen, but everything else is the same. $549 is not a bad price but the laptop is a bit old, hence the discounts.

For comparison's sake, I would consider the AMD A8-7410 CPU to be equivalent to the i3 5005U (http://cpuboss.com/cpu/AMD-A8-7410). There are quite a few other brands of laptops with similar specs around the $500 price point. Touchscreen is the big advantage of this one.

50% off sounds cool, but RRP is inflated. Dell has had better deals (hardware for the price you're paying) than this without being 50% off.

  • Could you also add Android operation? Which then may make this viable for family use.

    • +1

You can. There is a mouse-and-keyboard friendly distro of Android called Remix OS which supports most hardware types.

It's pretty much bleeding edge though, so expect some roughness around the edges.

There's also Android X86 6.0-r1 but some issues still remain.
