  • Out of curiosity would these monitors be grey imports? Not that it matters too much since there only 1 year warranty from LG anyhow

  • +22

    Largest monitor I would buy at 2560x1080 is 29". For 34" I would get a 3440x1440 one.

    • Getting a few upvotes on this comment….now, if only there are a few reps listening to this one….(hint)

    • Absolutely! Would have liked to see the higher resolution 34 inch monitors as the 34" 1080s are a bit meh coming from a 2560x1600 30"

  • +41

Those unfamiliar with ultra wide screen (21:9) should check on Display Wars the actual size of the monitors.

While 25" sounds decently large, it actually only has the height of a 20" 16:9 standard widescreen (important consideration if you are gonna use it for things other than gaming and if you have dual monitor setups).Even the 34" "only" has the height of a 27".

    • Good comment well put beefy

    • Thanks for that info.

This is my current monitor against the 29inch…

      http://www.displaywars.com/27-inch-16x9-vs-29-inch-21x9

It would be VESA mounted to a adjustable arm so the height doesn't worry me too much in comparison to my current screen. And the size doesn't appear to be that much larger.

The reviews seem to indicate the panel itself throws good colour and blacks. That with FreeSynch could tip me over the edge on this one.

      Should I keep saving for a 144hz 27 inch ?

      EDIT..
Never mind guy just had a good look at the Amazon reviews.

      • +1

thanks for the link it was quite helpful.

however which would display the larger surface (to work on) the 29" or a 4k 27" ?

I like working with several windows open

    • Well said. I'm running dual 24" and I would only look at a 34" as a minimum to replace them. But even then a 34" doesn't have as much space as my two 24s.

      Decisions decisions…

    • Looks like a 29 ultrawide is about same height as a 23 inch 16:9 (ultrawide is very slightly taller).

  • +1

So tempted for the 29. But know I should probably save my coins for a 144Hz monitor…
Do anyone have the 29 inch (29UM68-P) that could comment on how it goes with FreeSync active?

    • +1

I bought it last sale for $350 seems like a decent monitor colours are good and have overclocked it to 80HZ but some games do not support UW content such as youtube or games like overwatch which you have to revert back and have it with a nvidia card with v sync enabled not freesync , audio is also pretty good on the monitor !

      • +1

        Thanks for that…
When you say reverts back what you referring to ?

        • -1

          Reverts back to 60Hz.

        • +2

Sorry wasn't clear i meant it reverts to standard 16:9 ratio (black bars on the side of the monitor) the refresh rate stays the same.

  • why is it $429..code? discount ?

    • +4

Both the coupon code and a link to the original 20% off eBay Dicksmith post are in the description…

      • thankyou…I don't read I just guess

  • the 34UM68-p Is a Freesync (AMD) monitor and it has a refresh rate of 75HZ. (display port 1.2)
Which is fine for your average gamer, a lot of new titles are now supporting the wider view.
There is also an APP to adjust the monitor settings so you can change your settings pretty promptly with your mouse without trying to figure out the buttons on the monitor again.
Its an IPS monitor which is probably the BEST at reproducing colours and has better viewing angle.

The 1440p is more than twice the price and as a light gamer I just could not justify the money.

      By 1440p I'm assuming you mean 2560x1440.

It's a bit vague leaving out an entire side of screen measurement and then inferring it displays progressive frames like all pooter monitors.

      • +1

        He means 3440x1440

  • Not even sure why people post reviews here most of the time TBH: Amazon is unqualified people and sites that are obviously made for seo purposes in order to get traffic to affiliate links that the site owner profits from aren't going to be trustworthy now are they.

Just sayin … deal itself is awesome as usual.

The one thing that you can look for in the Amazon/newegg etc reviews that is harder to find in the professional reviews is failure rates and build/usage issues. You can get amazingly reviewed items that have switches break or keel over and die after 6 months.
Though you do have rationally analyse the info. 100 DOAs on a product that has sold a million units is not a bad device :P
Though I do agree 100% that if you want a decent review on how it handles, go to someone/a site that tests these things for a living :)

    • +1

You don't need to be an expert to have valuable info on a product.

  • Would any of these go well as 2x side monitors with a 34" curved monitor?

  • I highly suggest NOT purchasing this monitor as from personal experience, without the curve the width makes this monitor extremely strange if moving from a normal 16:9 monitor. All the things on the side are in peripheral range and the height is another factor as it's an ultrawide making it pretty damn low compared to my original 25" 16:9 monitor. I do however recommend the curved monitors, but if anyone wants an ultrawide and can't afford the curved versions, then this probably the best price you're going to get.

If you're willing to take a punt, I really recommend the 1440p QNIX monitors from eBay

    • +2

Nothing like those barebones monitors. I upgraded the pcb on mine and ocd to 100hz. 1440p ips at 100hz, cost me about $380 3 years ago

  • I can vouch for the 25"! I am using every day for my work as a second screen with my Macbook Pro. I was previously using a PC with two 19" monitors and can say this is a positive upgrade. the Ultrawide is great because i have emails on my mac screen, then i have an excel sheet & account package window open on the 25" so it is almost like having 3 screens. and when i am just working on a Excel, the spread is awesome. then when i want to watch netflix or movie file, change the screen setting and it very clear and a great picture! Only cons, based/stand could be a little more solid, height adjust would be great, but i will just get a Monitor stand soon.

  • Would it work as a t.v.?

    • No.

      • Why not?

        • not sure about the other screens, but the 25" only input is HDMI, so you could theoretically can connect a set-top box, DVD player or console.

        • +1

          its a 21:9 monitor, not a 16:9 DTV.

You can Frankenstein a build with a set top box and external speakers, but you still lose ~33% of the display and end up with a significantly worse and more expensive product than getting a cheap 32" TV.

A 21:9 34" ultrawide showing 16:9 content is effectively a 27" monitor due to letterboxing.

The answer though is technically yes, it's just a really bad decision. Technically you could watch TV on a 1990's era camcorder electronic viewfinder to display content from composite to HDMI conversion from a digital set top box. That doesn't mean you should though, unless it's for novelty value or something.

        • Thanks for that c0blat,
I am only going to be using this for my Xbone, still a bad decision?

        • @HeartFeltAxe:

Yep, bad decision. The xbox (all consoles AFAIK) can only output 16:9 resolutions, so you really should be looking at a standard 16:9 widescreen - and stay away from 21:9 ultrawide monitors.

These monitors whilst they can be plugged into many devices, are pretty much only to be used with computers that can output 21:9 resolutions.

        • @c0balt:
Thanks mate, saved me a bit of money there!

  • aint 78?

    • No, it's not. Why?

  • +1

I purchased last year the 29UM67-P (29') so not sure what are the updates with this model but keep in mind a few things.
Freesync works between 48Hz and 75Hz, so outside of this range you will have screen tearing unless you opt for an adaptive vsync.
Something I was very disappointed with this screen is the impossibility of having Freesync when you are not using the 21:9 format. For example, Starcraft 2 doesn't support 21:9 so I need to play on another screen size and you CAN'T use Freesync…which is very annoying. Also, when you use other screen formats, you have GREY bars on each side, not black, which is a bit annoying.
On the bright side, good screen for gaming and also working especially for this price.

I was interested in the AOC 24 with freesync in the dicksmith sales.

Is this LG better than the AOC. I have a RX 480 arriving soon.

    • The AOC isn't even a bargain. The monitor is $200 at every other mortar & brick shop.

  • hey guys, do you think the extra $48 for the 25" is worth it over this LG deal. www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267295

    • Only if you want 2560x1080 screen. Then again, I have always found 25" 2560x1080 display a bit awkward.

  • Thanks OP! I snagged the 29".

  • I have the 29". Good monitor if you are on a budget and wants a ultra wide screen.

Height is pretty much the same as a 23" screen really, so the height for a 25" UW will be even shorter.

For heavy gamers, probably better to go for 1440p or 144hz monitor I think.

  • Any good deals on 27inch 1440p ips gsync screens? Seems to just Asus, Acer and agon (aoc) with some bad reviews on the acers and all are 1k+!

    • Nothing around atm, keep an eye on LCD-Monitor tag. Nothing that high end available in this eBay sale.

I had a 24"(16:9) monitor that died on me… Bought the LG 29" (21:9) and felt like a downgrade in size. :(

If you are currently using 24"(16:9) and thinking of upgrading to ultra wide monitors, then i suggest you to pick up 34"(21:9) version.

    • Can I ask why it felt like a downgrade going from 24" to 29"? I have a Dell 24" 2007WFP at the moment. I am very tempted by the 29" because it is quite cheap at $300-ish. As much as I like the 34", I am worried that it is only 1080p and the pixels may look too big? I don't play games, just normal desktop applications like web browsing, email etc.

  • I have the slightly older model of the 29 inch (29um67) and I love it! As others have pointed out, the height of the monitor is about the same as a 23-24" 16:9 so it looks very normal next to my second monitor. I would also agree that 29" is the max I would go for 1080p, my gf has the 34" model and everything looks blown up due to the low res. I paid about $450 for mine so I would say this is a bargain.

It looks especially nice if you play mmorpgs, looks awesome when I play guild wars 2 with the extra field of view.

  • Would anyone recommend the 29" as a single monitor to connect to my Macbook Pro for productivity? Would I be better off with a 27" curved Samsung monitor from JB?
