Price cut on Holman tap timers if you need one. Looks like the solar powered one goes for ~$100 on ebay.

Also:
Holman Digital Tap Timer With Wireless Moisture Probe $49 (was $65) - the probe seems like a cool idea
Holman 2 Dial Mechanical Tap Timer $39 (was $58)

  • The Probe is a good idea i have a digital one now and the battery has lasted well over a year but the probe would be great.

  • Forgive my ignorance, but what is this for? Something that'll let me record my water usage over time wirelessly?

  • Don't think this will last, just like the garden LED lights.

I'd like to find a wifi one so I can water the garden using my phone when I'm not home.

Why wifi, and not zigbee or z-wave, so you can integrate it into your HA system?

      Single point of management.

    • Try this. Its available in bunnings only thing is its $149 dollars. They have lots of ideas for these devices when you read into them.

  • The wireless sensor is useful as long as the batteries last. Looks like the solar powered one doesn't include the sensor??

  • Planning on getting a water timer.
Can anyone recommend a good watering system to go with this for a small green house (two level, indiviudal pots) on my balcony?

Last year on hols we transported the plants for someone to take car of them but some didn't make the trip =(

I have the wireless one. It's useful to prevent the system coming on when it's raining, thus preventing wasting water. That, and I'm too lazy to run out in the rain and turn off the water.

The wireless probe uses 2xAAA batteries which seem to need replacing every 9 months or so. For that price I would recommend it.

The negative of the system is that you can only set 1 watering duration even though you can set multiple on times. ie: You can set on times of 6am and 6pm, but the water has to stay on for the same amount of time (eg 10mins at 6am and 10mins at 6pm). I've used other (non probe) systems where you could set individual watering times.
