Cheapest price seen for the Motorola Moto G4 Plus 16GB/2GB RAM model, see previous deals for price comparision and discussions. In addition to the 15% off eBay code the listing price dropped from $375.80 to $364.80 a couple days ago.

This is Australian stock/store with local warranty, tax invoice and free shipping. Also available at Officeworks 21/9 $321.30

An alternative to the Nexus 5X 16GB. For the extra $41 for the Moto G4 Plus 16GB you'll get a newer model phone, Motorola instead of LG, Dual Sim (4G/3G), SD Card slot, slightly better battery life (reported) & a higher megapixel camera. However the Nexus 5X has NFC, is $41 cheaper and previous comments suggest a better processor. Thanks erland & Ausdroid review. If you need NFC go Nexus 5x, if you need SD card Moto G4 Plus.

The 32GB/3GB RAM model is also available for $378.93, not the best price yet but still decent and good value. For the extra $68 you'll get an extra GB of RAM and extra 16GB of storage.

Note that this is not the regular Moto G4, this is the Moto G4 Plus which includes a fingerprint scanner, better camera & an extra GB of RAM on the 32GB model.

According to DXOMARK, this phone's camera is on par with the likes of Nexus 6p & iPhone 6S Plus https://www.dxomark.com/mobiles.

  • Thanks OP, very good deal.

  • Is it just me or is the link bad?

  • +4

    No NFC is a shame.

    • -8

But it comes with free bootloop.

      • +14

The bootloop is for the LG G4 not Moto G4. Get your mahogany right!!

    • What do you use NFC for anyway?

      • Android Pay would be the most common use, I never used NFC personally until Android pay started in Australia.

  • So the G4 plus or the Nexus 5X?

    • Apples or Oranges?

  • can claim gst back at airport?

    • +1

Yes, Aus stock, Aus retailer with tax invoice provided

      • Thanks @snapper , made my day will get one tonight

        • All good mate, get the TRS app for an easier experience departing the country and getting the GST back!

  • Is anybody able to clarify how the dual-sim works?
I have a work and personal sim - would like to use the 4g data for both interchangeably, as well as personal hotspot. Is that possible?

    • +1

Yup have this phone and 4G is enabled for whatever SIM you have data enabled for. You can also change data from sim to sim which will then change that sim to the 4G sim and the other to 3G.

Great phone and I bought it for the same reason. I never lose signal compared to my old 3G/2G dual sim phone

hotspot is also available although haven't tried it yet.

      • oh right. well thats good. I got this spec off the kogan website which says otherwise, but must be a different model:

        2G Network (MHz) 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
        3G Network (MHz) 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 - SIM 1 only
        4G Network (MHz) 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2600 (Bands 2,3,4,5,7,12,17,28) - SIM 1 only

        • Yeh a bit odd, definitely dual 4g/3g sim with both slots capable of both (depending on which is data enabled). I have the same SKU as listed here to (XT1642)

        • do you set "use sim 2 for data" or do you have to manually swap the sims around?

    • yes, you can choose which one to use data.

      • I'm in similar position to the poster of thi comment. Do you mind clarifying how the dual sim works with making and receiving calls and sms'?
Which number will it dial from and do you have to manually change every time you want to make a work/personal call?thanks in advance

  • This dual SIM phone does 4G/3G at the same time or is it 2G only 2nd SIM?

    • According to another thread, none of the usual phones will do both SIMs 3G/4G simultaneously.

      • hmmm Im looking for a spare phone which can do 4G/3G at the same time because of upcoming Telstra shutting down 2g

    • from what worthy1 said above, it might be 2g second sim, but you're never going to use both at the same time anyway so i guess it doesnt matter. i assume you get 4g with whichever youre using at the time.

      • Unless you are someone like me who uses the first slot for a "permanent" voice number and the second slot for cheap data.

    • It's a dual 4G and 3G phone according to whirlpool: https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones

  • Dual SIM & Google Play purchases?

I was wondering whether I can use this dual SIM phone to just pop in a new Telstra starter pack SIM every month and activate that on the mobile broadband plan with 3GB data and $30 credit to spend in the Play store? At the same time I'd keep a second SIM for the occasional phone call and to keep my number. Would that work?

    • If your number is with Telstra or Optus, 2G, which is what that slot will get when the data SIM is active on 4G, will not work after 12/16 and 04/17 respectively.

      • It's a dual 4G and 3G phone according to this: https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/dual_sim_4g3g_phones
i.e. team teri: yes, it should work. I've been considering doing the same. One SIM on a 6 month expiry (e.g. telstra long life) using 3G for receiving + outgoing talk & text to friends & family, and then a SIM as 4G for data + talk & text to everyone apart from friends & family.

Would cut down a lot on the hassles of porting, as only have to port the long-life SIM every 6 months.

        • Dual means dual active but only one slot can be active on 3G/4G. That 3+4 reference is ambiguous, even my G3 does both, just not on both slots at the same time.

        • Yes, exactly as you describe. A recent $10 recharge on Amaysim (as you go) added 1 year expiry. Not sure why, in that case I wouldn't bother porting and just keep my number on that. $10 per year is about as much as I call/SMS…

        • @greenpossum:
Nope.. This is a dual 3G phone.. Both sims will be available for incoming calls (both sims connected to 3G/4G) when the 2G network is shutdown.. It's the only Australian delivered phone that can do this currently

Your G3 does not have this capability.. You can choose which sim is on 3G.. The other drops to 2G on your phone

        • @Megahowler: OK that's good to know. If it had NFC I'd buy it.

        • @greenpossum:

Me too :) I'll wait for the Zenfone 3 deluxe or Note 7 dual sim to drop in price

moto G4 as its local stock…close to pure android experience.
      ZF3 is grey import

  • Only available in white. Gonna have to wait till I have my 2 Harvey Norman vouchers…. 😩

    • Looks like black 16GB sold out a couple of hours ago.

      • Yup 16GB are out. I do wonder how much usable space you get on the 16GB.

Also does it have a SDcard slot?

        • Yes it comes with an SDcard slot, unlike the Nexus 5x.

        • @hamza23:

What I mean is can you have 2 SIMs and microsd at the same time. Some phones can't do that either 2 SIMs or 1 + microsd

        • @neonlight:

Yes the microSD slot is separate. So 1 microSD slot and 2 sim card slots (3 slots in total).

You can see it here in the 13th photo with the back cover off. Micro SD slot, Sim 1 slot, Sim 2 slot.

        • @hamza23:

Thanks mate! that clears it all up

    • Black 16GB is available again.

  • How is the performance on the 2GB model?

  • Wasn't the deal better in August? 32GB/3GB $344.93 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/263434

I would buy this - if I didn't feel I could have had it cheaper if I bought it a month earlier

    • That's correct, mentioned in op:

Cheapest price seen for the Motorola Moto G4 Plus 16GB/2GB RAM model
The 32GB/3GB RAM model is also available for $378.93, not the best price yet but still decent
