OP, I have a lifetime license from a previous free giveaway but could not upgrade without paying because I did not pay for my original license. I did some research and there is a sticky in your forum making it clear only PAID licenses qualify for a free upgrade.
Not a complaint but suggest you edit "all the existing customers with unexpired licenses are granted free upgrades at no extra cost" to "PAID unexpired licenses" to avoid confusion.
