    Is that a deal?
Vivid internet had unlimited for $89…
    http://www.vividwireless.com.au/plans/unlimited-plan

    • it is their normal price, I am using this one.

    • Depends where you live! Friend of mine was unable to get Vivid but is now getting this.

    • Yes, it is a deal as the Vivid only has limited coverage. The Optus service has greater coverage. Note speed is 12/1Mbps only in some areas and drops back to 5/1Mbps in other areas. Depends on capacity/frequencies available in the area.

OVO will give you full speed on the whole of the Optus 4G network at $59 for 50GB for 28 days pre-paid. Means no lock in contract as well and you can recharge early if you have used up your quota.

  • I guess this is optus's response to OVO

  • Can you get FetchTV on one of these plans?

    • I just signed up, they wouldn't let me. I'm going to load balance it with my ADSL service, so I hope I can go back later on and let me sign up for fetch.

    24 month plan …….

  • If you get the 2300MHz band, speed is roughly equivalent to a good ADSL 2+ connection, but with slightly higher latency (approx. 50ms ping for me). The problem is, even if you are in an area with 2300MHz coverage, you are going to get a random band when the modem starts. You need to do a firmware hack to force a connection on the 2300 MHz band. I have been using the 50GB plan for the past 10 months and it has been pretty decent, besides the quota being a bit rubbish.

    • Have you got a link to details regarding the firmware hack by any chance?

It was in a whirlpool thread: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2466059
Basically you use a tool called E5186 Toolbox to connect to your modems API and change the network band setting.
My modem is model E5186s-61a, I have not checked if it is the same they are offering here.

  • It looks like you don't need to go on a contract and it's still $80/month. But if you go out of contract it may force you to buy the modem in the first month.

    • Minimum total cost for first month, $320.

They are effectively forcing you to buy a $240 modem.

  • They are effectively forcing you to buy a $240 modem.

yep so really $90 a month for first 24 months…
