  • nice deal OP

I'd just get the flybuys points, convert them to flybuys dollars and spend them as you please (in one, or in separate transactions) at any participating Coles Myer store.

See here for more info on what I'm referring to: https://www.flybuys.com.au/rewards#/money-off-shop/flybuys-d…

    • by looking at the terms and conditions, it appears that:
      1. Apply and be approved for a Coles No Annual Fee MasterCard by 30 September, 2016 and make a purchase on your new Coles MasterCard within 30 days
      2. Your $100 will be ready to use within 2 weeks of your purchase. You'll receive an email from us when it's ready
      3. Spend a minimum of $100.05 at Coles Supermarkets. Scan the flybuys barcode on the back of your new Coles Credit Card*
      4. You will then be asked if you would like to use your $100 off
So, it seems like it is linked to the card, more likely as a credit to spend. However, not sure if you can apply the $100 on the first purchase, as it will be available within 2 weeks and the purchase to trigger it would need to be greater or equal to $100.05.
      That's how I read it.

      • No minimum (first) purchase to trigger the bonus, $100 will be deducted from your next (second) shop over $100.

  • +4

Points are more flexible. Better to save $10 off 10 purchases than to save $100 off one.

    • +2

Most flexible is to choose points, then immediately convert the 20k points to $100 Flybuys dollars. That way you can spend your $100 like a virtual gift card at Coles, Kmart & Target.

      • -3

You cannot, it must be spent at Coles supermarkets.

  • +2

Still haven't received my bonus points from the last time this promotion was active….

    • I got them. You need to actually use the card first before they give you the points.

If you never used it, you won't get em.

      • Used it the day I received it. It's been two weeks and no points.

Not exactly sure who to contact - Fly Buys or Coles Financial Services?

        • +1

From experience with promotions that involve Flybuys points, it's always best to contact FB. From memory, they actually have a dedicated team that looks after these kind of problems.

        • There was an expiry date on the points/$100 so I would look into that. But also on your flybuys account do you have the $10 off for 2000 points turned on or off? If off then it won't offer you the $100 from this offer, I had this problem and turned it back on and next shop over $100 it worked.

        • I got mine after three days

        • @timdee: Should I give them a call to 13 11 16 or do they have an email address?

        • +1

@XoiThit: I rang. They'll give you a reference number and estimated timeframe if no one from the resolutions team is available/

  • Anyone know how to do credit transfer to Coles Mastercard?

    • I'd presume you mean balance transfer?
I don't think I have seen any 0% for balance transfer on the two cards offered here, it may be worthwhile to ask Coles directly.

      • yaya,sorry is credit transfer.

    • can confirm i received a 0% balance transfer offer (6 months) through email after getting approved for the No Annual Fee card.

  • Problem with converting to Flybuys dollars is that you only get 10 dollars off at a time. I prefer using points to order a $100 gift card which I can then spend as I please. The only downside is having to wait a couple of weeks for the git card. If you are not a regular Coles shopper I think gift card is a better option.

    • +4

No you don't, you can load your flybuys card up with multiples of $10 worth of flybuys dollars. Every now and then I'll load up $50 worth and go buy a carton of beer from liquorland. You can buy a multiple of up to 20 $10 flybuys dollars in one redemption (being $200 flybuys dollars costing 40,000 flybuys points) and spend it at Coles Supermarkets (including BI-LO), Liquorland, First Choice Liquor, Coles Express, Kmart, Target, and Kmart Tyre & Auto Service. If you want more than $200, and have the points available, you just perform another redemption of points for dollars. In fact, I used 32,000 points to get $160 off an Xbox one for my kids at target back when they had a clearance sale.

  • is there anything I should be worry about with applying and cancelling credit cards?

    • Yeah is it basically $100 worth of free shopping as it seems?

      • Oh no…..

      • +3

Isn't that in Australia it doesn't affect score if you apply or close accounts?

    • +1

      Cancelling cards? Not a problem.
Applying for cards? Temporarily affects credit score negatively.

In my case, I can apply for ~3 a year without a problem.

  • just been approved - thanks OP

  • how new the customers need to be?

  • I got this last time it was going - got $100 off very easily. It was terrific.

  • +1

Hmm bugger probably applies to new customers only, need to read the TCs. The no annual fee card is great for free grocery deliveries (over $100 [after any discounts etc]), I don't think I've done a big shop in-store for 2 years.

  • Can I get the 20,000 points then cancel this card?

  • Just applied and got approved for no annual fee card
Should I have gone with rewards instead?

    • +1

Depends on if you'd spend enough on it to make the fee worthwhile.

    • If it is free for first year, why not? Get more points and the extras like no foreign transaction fees, like with 28 degrees.

Ring them and ask to be upgraded. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/1791749/redir

  • Terms say "new customers", what constitutes a new customer?
If I cancel my current card and apply again, am I new?

    • +1

New flybuys and applied in Mrs name > APPROVED have $10000… amazing…

Low rates > high CC interest rates > Greedy Corporations > easy money for the frugal oz-bargainer

      • +2

I have been re-applying for this card around 12-13 times throughout the years. In the first couple of years it was not necessary for you to activate the card to get the $100 off so I would just apply, get approved, spend $100 then 'close' an inactive card. That way you are always a new customer. Only this year they figured this hole out and started requesting activation and spend on the card. I got caught since I used the same flybuys number, but I complained because I never before activated a card, and got a $100 transfer on the card. Second time after that I used a different flybuys number and got 100. Now it is the third time and it looks I got blacklisted (I presume by name).

Cryptos, rip off the greedy corporations as much as we can mate!

Peace of advice for people with lower credit score - when applying for this card in the final step click no to the question to be identified by a credit agency. Instead get verified by an ID such as medicare or such. This way you will avoid being refused on the basis of your credit rating and be approved on the basis of your general financial situation instead.

        • How do you use a card that hasn't been activated?

        • @koganei:

This is not applicable anymore. This year they changed so that you have to activate it and use it. But before this year that was not a precondition. They were giving you $100 dollars even if you did not activate it.

  • Nice one, I'm going to convert this to points.

  • wouldnt you be better off ordering a coles gift card and then using it with flybuys to earn more points? if you pay with flybuy dollars or get the $10 off you dont earn points on that $10 you cashed out?

  • Hmm…I really like the idea of earning points while shopping online cause I do a lot of online shopping..I'm guessing it doesn't matter where you shop online as well? And considering my shopping is mostly over seas the Rewards Card seems like a great option but the $89 fee is kind of off putting..I have a credit card which I pay about $50 a year but it comes with International Fees but I rarely use it so in a way that card is worse since rarely used.

But then I don't want a CC which needs to have a $6K limit with the 'No Annual Fees' card…That's just a too bigger limit.

    • You can set your own limit…minimum is $1k.

      • Hmm..But the website states "Platinum No Annual Fee MasterCard if you’re approved for a credit limit over $6,000 when you apply." so does that mean once you've been approved you change it to $1k..Is that what you mean?

        • +1

No one told you to apply for the platinum one…

        • @koganei: That doesn't answer my question…And I haven't applied for a thing.

  • I'm not sure this has been asked but…
Can anyone confirm that you get the $100 credit, buy a gift card with the credit (swipe flybuys card for extra points) then use the credit (swipe flybuys for extra points) to buy stuff from Coles?

Further to that, could you do this on your credit card that has flybuys linked? Head to Coles checkout with your groceries, buy a gift card up to grocery value with a flybuys linked credit card while scanning flybuys card, then use the gift card along with your flybuys card to buy groceries?

TL:DR.. can you double dip with a credit card that is linked to a flybuys account and use your flybuys card?

  • thanks op, fingers crossed i receive my points

  • Thinking to apply…

So what are people doing? Purchase a low cost item.. And once credit applied, spend $100.05 or more on purchases?

    Then close account?

  • BEWARE, make sure you apply well before the deadline.

The catch is that they might ask you to the post office and confirm your identity. This will drag out the process by 2 weeks, minimum, thus bringing you past the offer period for approval. You will then not be eligible for this offer at all. This is what happened to me even though I was eligible for the next offer, they said I signed up in the period of the previous offer so bad luck.

The whole ID check thing was ridiculous as I gave the exact same license details at the post office as online.

After many calls with the Coles customer care department they said that there was nothing they could do. The best solution is to pay off my card, cancel it and then sign up again with the new offer. So stupid.

    • I also signed-up in the last offer, took the form to the post office the next day and had the credit card in my letterbox 5 days later. Not sure why it took you 2 weeks.

I don't find the ID check ridiculous at all - how else can they check that you are who you are? I think it's a great practice to help minimise identity theft.

  • I signed up 3 days from the end of the month. Thus it was impossible for anyone. They should have just allowed me to sign up with the next offer knowing that it was outside the offer period. I didn't know that conditionally approved didn't count as approved. This is something they should have made clear.

It's just shocking that it's OK for people to sign up, cancel, sign up, cancel etc. and get away with hundreds of dollars. But a genuine one off sign up is refused regardless of how many identical offers are provided to my inbox. Any genuine customer service centre would have granted it, otherwise it can all be run by stupid AI.

  • Thanks OP, got my 20,000 FlyBuys points this morning!

    • How long did it take you to get the points from the date of first purchase?
      Mine's 10 days - no points yet.

      Cheers

      • +1

Did my first purchase on Thursday, I checked on Sunday and the points are in.

  • Cool beans thanks OP. Approved for the free MasterCard. Chose the 20k points. I hope they dont expire soon.
