  • keeping my fingers crossed for a deal on grey :)

    • There are not many left instock. No ETA on if anymore stock will arrive yet.

      • is the gold out of stock? it says in stock notice instead of add to cart

      • -1

        DHL-POP 23 days

        That doesn't sound right :/

        • +2

joybuy.com accept Paypal so can raise a dispute if need be.

    • +5

$176.69 USD with the coupon 'retailmenot' http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-Pro-5-5-I…
But Clear's warning on stock sounds worrying.

      • +1

Did I really get downvoted for finding the cheapest price?

        • +3

I fixed it up for you.
Someone is shitty they didn't use the code, obviously.

        • @imnotarobot:
Even better if you use the code on the gold version too…..

        • @albanyson:
          See below

        • @albanyson: I don't think the code works on sale items (the gold), so it'll apply the sale on the non-sale price and make it more expensive

      • Code only works when logged in.

Code says not available for orders over $250. ( I tried ordering two)

Code also takes the gold version uo to $176.

      • Works for the grey models not gold.

  • Does this phone allow for 2 SIMS and SD?

Is B28 the only 700 band used in Australia?

    • MicroSD uses 1 of the SIM card slots.

Refer to this page for frequencies used in Australia. B28 is very popular and not found in many overseas phones.

    • -2

      Found the answer…
"2 Micro SIM card or 1 sim card and 1 storage card"

      That's a shame.

      • there is a hack/mod on youtube. i wouldnt do it though, looks messy

      • Here is the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EsATxZbSjU

Basically you would need to remove the metal part of the SIM and paste it on the microSD card.

        • That looks difficult and easy to screw up.

The added thickness made it a lot harder to insert the tray. I'm guessing ejecting it will be difficult also.

        • @lostn: yeah even in that video the person has to push quite hard to get the tray to go in, and getting it out looks hard too.

I've never understood why they just don't make three separate slots for sim 1 + sim 2 + SD card. The incremental cost would be very low, most people want SD cards, and if you're buying a dual SIM phone then you want to able to use both sims.

      • It should be 1 Micro + 1 Nano, or 1 Micro + TF card.

The TF card uses up the nano slot.

  • Does this phone come with Marshmallow android version out of the box?

  • +5

Are these really 2.5mm bigger than the none b28 ones? Seems amazing they would make a whole new shell for it.

    • yeah be careful. Got one, case I got wouldnt fit. Dropped it 1st week and screens (profanity). Can't find any replacement parts cause it's 2mm taller.

      • Yeah I went regular none B28 version,

this deal is better since you get 7% cashback from aliexpress

    • +5

That deal after cashback is $166.47 US with more expensive DHL and EMS available.

This deal after cashback is $164.56 US with cheaper DHL and EMS available.

      • you are correct. apologies. i read it as $234 AUD instead of $224.

      • I asked, and you delivered.
        Well done, my jolly chap!

  • -1

Don't forget to mention free shipping minimum 6 weeks waiting time if your lucky.

    • +10

Typically takes 3-4 weeks. Someone recently had a package arrive to WA in 13 days.

Spend the extra $7ish for DHL if you don't want to wait.

      • That could be correct, but your website states 5 to 11 business days.
Stop misleading customers I been waiting for 5 weeks for an order and still waiting.

        • Not an employee but happy to help when people are friendly.

At checkout the advertised time for free shipping is up to 30 business days. Couriers like TNT are often discounted on many products.

What's your order number? Happy to see where it's at.

  • Will both SIMs run 4G/3G at the same time? Or will second SIM only be 2G?

    • Second Sim is only 2G.

      • Bugga. Want to replace my dual SIM LG.

      • 2G will be starting to close down in Australia at the end of this year

        • Yes I know. Very few phones support dual 3G 4G.

  • @clear is there a way to change currency to AUD - i am getting total of $243.66 inc DHL

    • +7

No. Geekbuying only accept USD. My recommendation is to use a CC like 28 Degrees without currency conversion fees set to use it's own exchange rate in Paypal.

For those who don't know how…

Instructions on how to change your PayPal billing currency:
Login to PayPal, click settings, click payments, click pre-approved payments, click select available funding sources, next to the credit card you want to pay with click 'conversion options', then click 'Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice.'

This will then charge your credit card in USD, at which stage your credit card will use the MasterCard/Visa exchange rates, instead of using PayPal's lesser exchange rates if you let them convert it for you.

      • +3

Some people also got the free Coles Reloadable Mastercards that don't have conversion fees at the moment. I added that to my PayPal and used it to buy the grey from Geekbuying for a friend.

  • Damn, not on the Grey :(

    • Held off as the stock level is too low. I'll see if it's possible to have a deal later on.

      • @clear

Do you think you will be able to negotiate the same price for Grey?

        • Possibly. I'll find out on Monday when sales team are back.

    • I pulled the trigger and bought the grey anyway, in case it sold out.

      • +1

Bought the grey as well, applied 'retailmenot' coupon to get 5% discount.

        • Ah damn I probably should've searched beforehand. I applied a new account 2% discount that I received

  • +1

Blame my bloodshot eyes, but that phone looks pink.

    • +1

Just the render. Plenty of real images on Google showing more gold than pink.

  • I purchased this earlier this morning before the deal was posted on OzBargain. I'm really hoping I have more luck with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro than I did with the Lenovo K3 Note (which has been the worst phone I've ever owned). I went with the free post option, perhaps I should have paid the extra for DHL? I was hoping to get it within the next couple of weeks. Also, can someone explain to me how CashRewards works? What's the catch?

    • Create an account with Cashrewards, log in, search for Geekbuying.com store in cashrewards site and click Goto store…

  • How can I select DHL shipping? Having trouble finding DHL shipping option.

    • In the shopping cart click on "Proceed to Checkout" instead of the Paypal button. It'll let you choose the shipping method and still use Paypal.

  • I can't find anything about this Pro model on xiaomi HK website. The only model with B28 that I can see is Taiwanese model which is priced at NTD6,000 which is about $250. Where are you guys sourcing this model from?

    • +1

HK Stock means that it's shipped from Geekbuying's Hong Kong warehouse.

      This is the Taiwan version.

  • +1

@Clear, will this case fit that phone?(Is the international version bigger than the normal one?)
    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Back-Case-For-Xiaomi-Redmi-No…

    • I'll ask GB as this phone is slightly bigger.

      • +2

@Clear, if it doesn't, please ask them which case will fit this phone, as I am buying it for my 12 years old son who tend to drop things….lol

  • Great deal but I think most people are better off spending the extra ~$110 USD on a Mi 5 imo, about to buy one myself. The camera on these redmi note pro's is just too mediocre.

    • +15

An extra $110 USD is absurd. Surely you are joking

      • +14

he's not. and don't call him Shirley.

  • Any deal on Redmi 3s Pro?

  • Anyway to bundle the 3/32 with a case and screen protector?
Or does anyone know how to reliably get a bigger 152.5mm case and screen protector? From looking around no one seems to specify for this bigger version.

    • +1

I am asking @Clear about this, he is getting back to me about the case.

      • +10

Or you could've just said that he's on the case.

        • +3

The case and screen protector is designed for the standard redmi note 3 (kenzo)150mm vs (Kate) 152.5mm and case will be tight fit and protector will be 2.5 mm short. :(

Maybe best to wait for cases designed for this model.

        • +2

@kahn: In that case, he is on the case, in case you wonder…..

        • @firepower:
All this damned waiting :-( First, I waited for an affordable phone with that band 28 thingy, then I waited for the 3 GB RAM model, now you ask me to wait for the cases. It's actually a good idea so that you can hide that ugly "gold" colour. What's wrong with simply offering white and black models unless you're selling huge volumes?

        • +1

@kahn: agree! Who buys all these crap gold phones?

        • +2

can also wait for the exchange rate to improve a bit…. Lol

        • +1

@ramsheed: Gold everything is popular in China. It shows wealth apparently.

    • Just get any cheap standard 5.5" case for $5 that made for phones with less rounded corners & they'll fit perfectly. Trace with pencil and then use a Stanley knife to cut out any holes along the side and back that aren't where they need to be. Easy as that. Takes less than 2min to do.

  • This should be better than my ageing OnePlus One right?

    • +1

Yep. Better CPU, graphics and battery.

    • +4

Not worth the upgrade. The One still kicks ass.

      • The battery sucks though :( on the OPO.

        • Err not mine bro. 2 days with moderate use. Are you on CM nightlys?

    • +6

Having both, not really a noticeable upgrade.

Performance about the same. Running an older CM with lots of tweaks on the OPO and MIUI on redmi. going to try CM on the redmi, apparently it's much better. I much prefer CM compared to MIUI, though MIUI itself isn't that bad. there's some really useful features of CM that once you get used to, it's hard to not have. such as swiping down from the right for settings or left for notifications - you can address some of these with xposed.

      Prefer the OPO in hand

MUCH better camera in OPO. Something you don't really think will matter till you don't have it. I never used my phone that much for piccies, but you sure notice it when the ones you do take are average quality.

Battery is awesome in the redmi. The OPO battery was starting to die. Not sure if that was age related, it had been quite some time since i'd reflashed a new ROM, and had lots of tweaks.

Fingerprint sensor is really good. It's quicker than my ipad air 2. I don't use it at all though, personal preference. If it's something that matters to you, it's fantastic.

No NFC - again something of an individual preference. I don't use it.

Volume and power buttons on same side (right). Prefer the OPO layout, but not deal breaking.

Screen - don't notice the difference.

They're very very similar. If you're happy with the OPO, it's not really an upgrade. If you want a fingerprint sensor, and awesome awesome battery life, it's a cheap new phone.

Highlights to me how much of a bargain the OPO was, and how we've made it to the bang for buck mobile phone era.

Happy to answer any specific Qs about the two.

Edit: currently using the redmi as it's shinier and going to try some CM roms on it.

  • +2

If only this phone had NFC

    • +1

If only I could have my cake and eat it :( It's got B28… but still not good enough :)

    • +1

Indeed - any NFC band 28 phones around worth getting?

    • They still haven't figured out how to implement NFC obviously.

      • +1

Which is worry since they're launching Xiaomi Pay in China.

  • +1

Does anyone know how the camera compares to the Samsung Galaxy S4 camera?

  • +1

@clear Any bundle with screen protector and case please?

    • +2

This phone is slightly bigger than the normal Redmi 3 Note. I'm finding out if existing cases will work.

  • +2

Thanks Clear for your hard work..now my final request is for the grey model please..thanks

  • Amazing price, cheaper than local price. I ordered one from Xiaomi Taiwan last week, sent to relative's house to pick up when I visit them next week. NTD6K = AUD250 and I thought this was a good purchase.

  • Any compatible cases or tempered glass screen protectors??

  • +1

Taiwan website says 152mm not 152.5? 2mm is less than 2% difference so I guess silicone cases might stretch and fit, but definitely not a metal case.

  • Out of stock when I tried to get one

  • -3

My sister has one of these. She told me she stopped using it because the Data Usage monitor does not separate Wifi data usage from mobile data, so she has no way of knowing how much data she has left on her plan, making it useless and dangerous to use.

    Can anyone confirm this?

In my Galaxy I set a data limit (and a warning when I get close to it) so that I cannot exceed my monthly data. If both wifi and mobile data is combined into one total usage meter, this would be worthless.

    • +1

I use the telco app to monitor mobile data usage, eg virgin mob has its own app, can set the alert in the app, ( the app does not record wifi usage)

    • +2

Even if that is the case… Don't most telcos have apps that tell you how much data you've used? I never check with my phone, just the Aldi app.
