$25 is definitely worth it for local stock with local warranty at a physical store. No deal for me

      cpus might be ok.

never heard of any CPUs failing (besides being pushed by OC beyond its means). always the motherboard/ram.

Intel allow direct warranty with them also based on the CPU serial.

      • My 3570K's Graphics processor failed on me. But it'd be an isolated incident, just like you never heard of CPU's failing.

        • But it'd be an isolated incident operator error

        • @kevsta89: Pretty much, dunno why you're replying on a week old thread though. Still hurting over the earphones?

Received a faulty CPU from kogan early this year. Took Intel 1 week to replace it. No need to deal with Kogan at all (Funny thing is that it took kogan one week to respond so you might as well contact intel)

  • Same here… blown everything except cpu. New project :)

  • Man, every time I look for another part for my new PC build OzB manages to post a deal for the exact thing I needed! No idea if the overseas warranty will end up posing a problem down the track, but given I've just bought a house I need to save every dollar I can for the time being :)

if youve just bought a house you shouldnt be looking at i5, celeron will be the way to go

      • Or intel Atom…

        • Pentium 1, or I can sell you my damaged 3570k CPU works fine, won't work for Graphics.

  • i7, now i5. Need an i3 for htpc build please kogan.

  • OK serious question. Is there anything wrong with my current i5-2500k that would warrant an upgrade? Currently running at 3.9Ghz with CM Hyper212+ cooler.

    • No. you will see minimal 10-15% improvement in FPS at best with this CPU vs your OCed 3.9ghz.

      I've done tests… my spare Q9400 @ 3.6ghz only does 20% less FPS than my i5 6400.

        Serious answer: It depends.

Newer CPUs have a bunch of things different other than the raw CPU speeds. For example if you're big into HEVC videos like I am (due to crappy low quota internet), it will consume FAR LESS CPU grunt to watch high quality h265/x265 streams. This was actually why I upgraded my HTPC to an i3, as it uses significantly less power and generates far less heat.

Obviously very specific use case, but just stating that in terms of % gains it's not always so cut and dry. But yes, if for gaming, the 2500K is still very capable despite it's age. Personally there's no way I would still be using my old 2500K setup for a myriad of reasons, but in particular the motherboard enhancements int he newer chipsets.

Anyways good luck deciding! Remember it's a case of new RAM, Mobo and CPU though. Not just the CPU.

My 2012 model Dell with i5-3470 has almost the same Passmark score as this.
Your older model is similar CPU power, but less energy efficient.

Maybe the integrated graphics is better in the new chip?

Has Moore's law ended? You can buy a complete 3-4yo refurb PC with a similar CPU for not much more than this chip.

  • Ordered one. Was looking for that for a long time. Thanks, Op.

    • No worries, already allocated the 'extra' $25 towards a better PSU for my build.

  • Thanks OP, didn't realise kogan had CPUs.
    Ordered the 6600k =)
