I agree.
I bought one of those sel5018f two weeks ago from JB, lovely lens for my a6000. I wouldn't hesitate recommending the a5000 as a first interchangeable lens camera. The 16-50 is a very good lens too.BTW that Flickr search link seems to go nowhere if you aren't logged in to Flickr. (for me anyway)
Good post I grabbed one earlier and was about to post it. A6000 has a better sensor and a viewfinder but for <$350 this is a great price. I got one for my Dad for Father's Day who is keen to take some better photos when he's travelling but doesn't want to make a big investment.
Has anyone bought any Sony "seconds" products before? What's the condition like?
Would like to know as well
Well, have a look at the fairly large proportion of negative reviews for their eBay store, which seems to be largely related to "seconds".
Personally, I'd stay away or at the very least pay with Paypal.it does come with full 12 months warranty, so that's some kind of reassurance.
i tried. they are disgusting. in the last ebay sale i tried to buy the MK3. after 2 weeks they said it was delievered but no one was there to pick it up, which is impossible as it's meant to go to my work location (this is the sony store australia). then their ebay website said they never had stock when i bought it. then their sony store said theyll resend the camera that i apparently wasnt there to pick up - contradicting the ebay store.
absolute shambles. after over a month they sent me a refund. i spoke to (only via email as i was overseas) 3-4 different people. they promised me 25% off my next purchase from them but never even gave me a code after i asked.
EDIT: i know youre looking for the condition of the product, but have this in midn as well should you buy.
Yep - my bro purchased a lens and it had scratches all over the lens. And it got to the point where he needed to escalate it with Paypal buyer protection. Their product and service was APPALLING.
They do have 93.9% Positive feedback. Which is extremely poor for eBay. Anything under 99% is questionable.
I can chip in my 2cents. I bought the a6000 from the last ebay sale, and the condition is immaculate (lucky maybe?!)
It came with a box, strap, battery, charger, manuals etc just like new.No visible scratches on body (maybe microscopic but none were visible to naked eyes).
Comes with 12mths warranty from Sony so I dont see the problem IMHO.
Well there is a problem and that problem is that there refurb products are of a completely inconsistent quality and do not undergo a stringent refurbishment process. Compare this to Apple's refurb products: http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/refurbfaq…
I bought a TV from them and the screen was fooked, was a big hassle to communicate with them and to return it. Got the same model TV from Harvey Normals for about a $150 more than sony seconds and it was new.
might give it a miss, not worth the hassle, could end up with anything by the sounds of it.
Good price. I paid about that much for a used NEX6 earlier this year.
Sorry, wrong info I posted. That is a good price for the camera and lens. I have had one for couple of years.
This is probably the best you can get ATM, whereas HN is selling it @$600 (AFAIK they sold it @$488 after discount), though this is Sony second.
Not really a bargain for a discontinued second hand camera.
Just got an email that it's been dispatched. Fingers crossed all is ok.
Does the tracking work for you or is it just me having issues?
it is not australian post, it is Toll IPEC. I got an SMS early in the morning that it was going to be delivered today.
Thanks for that, you solved our tracking problem. The link they gave us goes to DHL when it's actually a Toll delivery
Tracking doesn't work for me :S
I found the problem, they linked us through DHL when it's actually a Toll delivery as per aldoduco's comment - just check the tracking number on Toll's website and it should work
try here: http://www.tollgroup.com/tollipec
Cheers. Mine should be delivered tomorrow.
how long it takes to deliver from order day ?
@dna4:
Hopefully 2 days (if delivered tomorrow).Thank- hope ypu get it soon.
Just checked the ebay - it seems they ran out the stock. Should've come across this post sooner. :(
if anyone interested, I received today an AS50 action cam purchased two days ago and the lens is scratched :( , created the call with sony, will see how it goes.
Damn that sucks, good luck with customer support
glad you guys got a good unit. called today for an update and they had closed the case because there were no activity on it, even when it was waiting on them, the sony person says that a call cannot be open for more than 3 days, wt…
I have open a ebay return request with item as not working.
never again
My girlfriend just got it delivered to her work. Will check it out tonight and let you guys know.
Got mine today and the box was slightly damaged but the camera and accessories appear mint
Still waiting for mine to arrive, looks like they need longer time to deliver to Hobart. Hope the camera condition is good. finger crossed
Just had a quick look and play. Can't see anything wrong with the body or lens. Everything there. So far so good. Charging the battery up now.
Just got the camera today, the body and lens looks good and works, just need a bit of cleaning, the box looks really "second" and a bit sticky.
I've got the A6000.
This is a really good camera! For $335 is an absolute steal. Great for those who are just getting into photography, and would like to learn how to shoot images in RAW + edit in adobe lightroom.
This is also a really amazing lenses for this camera:
