    Picked and packed with care
    by backpackers

    No harmful insecticides or pesticides
so it's not organic, they just use normal insecticides & pesticides?

$3.90/kg for 10kg is bloody expensive.
The good thing is if it's coming direct from the farm, you've got 4+wks to eat it all.

Are you suggesting backpackers are careless and they should hire white collar workers on $70k a year to do the packing, magically resulting in cheaper per kg prices?

Based on the rubbish Colesworth provide at an average of $4kg, this is clearly a very good bargain and no doubt provides farmers with at least some profits for their work.

But then again I don't expect the typical Australian consumer to tell the difference between good and bad fruit, A bit like feeding strawberries to pigs. First world wages, demanding third world prices.

      • well you've obviously never been fruit picking then.
About a 1/4 of the backpackers pick like the professionals, at least half are there to party & have fruit fights.

Supermarkets don't charge $4/kg last time I looked, but I buy from the markets at $1-$2.50/kg even if it's just 500g of fruit. If I was buying 10kg, i'd be expecting $1-1.50/kg at most. Except lemons, I get them from the local laneways.

growing up in the country & having travelled, I do know there's a large difference between quality & pricing.

If the farmers don't like the big supermarkets, then they shouldn't sell to them. They don't offer better prices. Oh wait they chose to sell their dstuff because they reliably get paid.

How much is shipping for 10kg in Aus? There's no such thing as free shipping!

My first order from Farmhouse Direct so I can't speak for the quality but I do like the idea of buying direct from the grower.
