  • Very nice deal on a very nice card.. :) best bang for buck product on the Aussie market for sure. Also great for ITX cases that want the heat blown outside the case on an already low powered low heat graphics card.

    • +3

      You betcha!

With these new nVidia cards, new PSU's, and new/cheaper ssd's hitting the market.
I think whoever builds a new gaming rig will have something powerful and relevant for a many years.
Dear I say, enough to challenge the PS5 and NeXtBOX.

    • For those interested in the cooling heat sink/fan on this 1060 graphics card here's what i could find.

It looks like its the same Nvidia Reference Blower (maybe revised) that was released alongside the GTX 960 - Both 960 and 1060 share the same TDP of 120w

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-review… Sound and heat looks fine for a blower design its one of the better ones.

  • Really wanted to get another Leadtek, but took too long to bring out the non stock models, ended up getting the Strix purly due to availability,

Great brand of cards tho, my last one lasted almost 5 years or so :)

    • +2

5 years is almost the full lifespan of most graphics cards. By the 5th year a $99 low end card is about as good if you wanted a direct replacement for a broken card.

      • +2

Iv seen some EVGA ones last barley 12 months :P so its a great quality brand IMHO

        • my Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 OC WindForce lasted around 4 years and then it was done :) using integrated graphics at the moment.

        • My 2 gtx680's in sli are still going strong 4 years later.

        • @vid_ghost: Tried putting it in the oven? Google it.

          Worked for my old 9800GT

    • +2

It's usually the capacitors that go on electronics. I've fixed cards before by replacing them. But that usually happens when the card is outdated anyway.

  • +4

Such temptation! Seems to be the cheapest 1060 by about $50 according to StaticIce. (Are we still using that site?)

    • +2

yes.. very tempting and yes we are…static ice is so much better then shopbot, myshopping or getprice for searching prices on IT tech

      • +1

Just commenting so I remember these sites

        • +2

Hahaha, so it's not just me that does that on threads!

  • How are Leadtek in their reputation on the GPU market?

    • +1

      Better than most.

    • +1

They used to make the best cards including the best quadro workstation cards .. looks like they still do make most of the current Nvidia quadro workstation cards :) so my guess is they at least should be reliable.. IT may not be the fastest GTX1060 on the market though.

    • They're fine man :) I remember I got a leadtek 6800 back in the day, was awesome and unlocked to '6800 Ultra' speeds.

    • They used to be the most sought after back in the days.
I was very proud when as a teenager I obtained a Leadtek Winfast GF4 Ti4600

  • +1

I would've bought this for sure If I didn't already have one on the way. Good price.

  • Oh watch some reviews and I'm tempted but the only problem is I only play games at 1080p very high settings as don't plan to change my 55" for a while. Can anyone advise if it would be worth upgrading from my XFX R9?

    • +2

What model? If you're on a 280 or above, you should be fine.

      • Yep I'm on the re 280x Double D. Thank you for your response. Also, that would mean I don't need to upgrade unless I'm gonna go 1440 or 4k right?

        • +1

Games are becoming more and more intensive to run
          Take GTA V for example

So you will need to upgrade sooner or later to maintain High 1080p at 60fps
I'd say within the next year

        • +1

I'm on a 280X DD Black OC (BBQWTFROFL) and it can handle 1440p alright, but newer games which aren't super optimised will start to highlight the card's age. GTAV murdered my system (i7 3770), but games like Mad Max and Overwatch run excellently (usually above 60FPS).

  • Wish I could get a 1070 FTW for ~$750. Nowhere in Australia currently comes close to the average US price of 1070s.

  • wow good find!. Would of bought this guaranteed if i haven't purchased the zotac gtx 1060 mini from newegg.com

  • Geeeee. Have a RX480 Sapphire Nitro 8 gb on order from the UK delivered for $420. I am an average gamer with a 1440 monitor. I wonder if its worth cancelling the UK 480, and switch to this. Not sure which is quicker. Help. :)

    • +2

The cheaper the card the better.. this is the better deal as both cards will be around the same performance overall.. by the time 4k gaming becomes the normal.. not even a GTX1080 $1000 card will be good enough so this is a great card to use over the next 1-3 years at 1440p

also from looking at reviews on both cards.. the GTX1060 uses 131w load while the RX480 Nitro 8GB uses 164w load. this was in most of the reviews of the ROG Strix 470 4gb i was looking at..
      the 470 Strix uses 144w.

Grab this over the RX480 and upgrade to something better in a few years time.. win-win :) + local warranty

    • +2

This card should be noiser. It looks like the same recycled cooler from the GTX 670/760 and every one of those I've heard weren't quiet.

      • .. cant tell without any reviews

      • Youtube review of the RX470 Nitro vs rx470 Strix has the Nitro with noisy fans and the strix was whisper quiet

    • +1

The GTX 1060 is good itself but if you wanna upgrade it for futher gaming, you shouldn't. The GTX 1060 doesn't have a SLI function which meant you can't run 2 of GTX 1060 in your system so if i were you, RX480 is an ok choice as said 2 RX480 will out perform GTX 1080

  • +1

just got this and cancelled amazon order, this is local and cheaper

    • +3

because you didn't put in the coupon code?

      • shhh. I edited my post before fact check and you're super fast at reply so I couldn't re-edit & fix.

I stand by first comments though.

        • +4

Local retailer does a nice exclusive deal for Ozbargainers and you knock them down. Not saying they are immune to criticism but this is a pretty sweet offer considering the other options on the market, that's only good for consumers right?

        • @hcetigol: Actually no.

I've been buying computer components and electronics locally for a long time now, and I truly would rather spend my money with an Aussie business.

BUT I see their prices are directly based upon their cheapest competitor, i.e. local prices are based upon the cheapest a customer can order & ship an item from the US. I think this is BS (even though i know; capitalism and all that).

In reality the logistics of buying computer components in Australia is much better than the US, which should balance out the larger buying power of some of these US stores. So I will always downplay a "Bargain" which costs more than the regular US price + regular shipping.

I guess you are simply used to being ripped off.

        • @grb: There is no warranty for 90% of graphic cards purchased from the USA, the cheapest ones which you refer to are almost guaranteed to not have any product support. These are moving, hot components which have a more than minuscule chance of failure, compared to something like a keyboard.

For prices above a certain threshold(every individuals will vary), I prefer to have rather than not have the service Australian local does provide. So as an individual I act rationally, I buy what's best value for me, I don't care about prices in the grand scheme of things because my individual circumstances govern what I choose and in this case deal maximizes that overall value package, taking into account all the factors not a binary price differential.

As a consumer, I'm not going to do a solo protest, I have no power to and how would that make a difference. Vote with your wallet depending on prices at the time, either local or overseas.

        • @hcetigol: Well that's a lovely subjective appraisal. And of course we're all free to do as we please.

In reality you can purchase from very reliable US sources with international returns and the chances of shipping damage is extremely low..

        • @grb: Please enlighten me, EVGA from Amazon is the only manufacturer I would feel comfortable with and I personally have been searching for a deal on this card over the last week, best I could find was $380 for a Gigabyte from Amazon with a probable 2-3 week wait and no international support. Previously I spotted the MSI GTX1060 gaming x on ebay for $423 after 20% discount 2-3 weeks ago. In addition I was keeping my eye out on RX470, RX480 and GTX1070 deals.

Maybe if I had family in US, otherwise I can't find any other loopholes to get the best of both worlds.

        • @hcetigol: I just did enlighten you; with regards to the existence of reliable US vendors.

If you want me to enlighten you to the idea of a "Bargain" (and address all the issues you mentioned): Step 1 would be "Do not buy when demand is high".

This is not a bargain, although it may be the best available at the time. There is a difference.

        • @grb:

Bargains are subjective. E.g. You might not place any value in a local warranty (vs an international warranty), but others may prefer it.

Also, bargains are always based on the CURRENT price, or else most products wouldn't be a bargain since most products would get cheaper over time (or get replaced by a newer model being sold at RRP).

As for the products that may not get cheaper over time (such as real estate), you would need to have a crystal ball to tell if something is a bargain in that particular moment in time.

  • Placed an order. When will it be shipped?

  • Very close to pulling the trigger, but as a true ozbargainer I'm concerned that Gysnc monitors cost more than Freesync monitors, should I be waiting for an AMD deal instead?

    • +1

you maybe waiting a while.. :) i would grab this before its sold out..

    • +1

With intel on board with Freesync it's only a matter of time before it's the standard. And of course Freesync are cheaper, but I wouldn't buy one without "LFC".

And anyone who follows computer components will tell you AMD has been the performance/dollar champion for some years now, I can't see any true ozbargainer buying nVidia unless it's a great deal (which at more than $US RRP + shipping, I don't believe this is).

      • +1

looking on Anazon at the moment and all the GTX1060's are $300+ US Dollars.. please find me a single GTX1060 at the RRPing .. THIS IS A GOOD DEAL at the moment full stop…

The RX480 8Gb is the more future proof card out of the two and freesync is the better option but the RX480 at a good price is sold out everywhere.

        • +1

I'd argue it's not a bargain simply because it's hard to find, even though I understand the idea of supply and demand.

In fact I'd argue the opposite, it's obvious all finfet GPUs are popular/in short supply, so buying one now is a bad idea. And the cheapest one available right now is in no way a "Bargain" (THIS SITE'S PURPOSE) since it was cheaper a month ago and will be cheaper in one month's time..

        • +2

          @grb:

but with all PC Tech stuff.. waiting for stock or for a product to age will always produce cheaper prices.. :) a bargain today is a ripp off tomorrow when it comes to Tech gear

        • +1

@vid_ghost: Mate I completely disagree with how you're using that idea. These GPUs were cheaper on release day, and will be cheaper once supply catches up.

You've obviously got the right idea in the long term though, which is why I'm not bashing the 1060 as a product. It's a great card for FHD @ moderate FPS. I usually tell people to avoid the top tier products which not only offer diminishing returns but also go obsolete just as fast.

  • Ordered. Thanks. Cancelled my 480 ordered from the UK, and saved $45 for the same speed card, really. Thanks poster. Going to check my mail box now… Has it arrived yet? :)

  • EVGA GTX 1060 can be had for $369.75AUD including delivery from Newegg (US) (http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487260&cm_re=gtx_1060--14-487-260--Product) so an okay deal I guess.

    • +1

I got this deal for $360 inc delivery, so… better deal?

      • Isn't it $369 + delivery (some cities free) from PLE? The newegg isn't on sale and isn't pre-order. So this deal seems just okay.

    • Those reviews don't look promising

      • +2

amazon and newegg reviews are always only people who have issues with the product.. 90% of the happy buyers never post anything

    • +2

overseas stock cant compare to local..

      • True, just used as a ball park since the prices are essentially the same. Local is obviously more convenient.

  • not very up with the times, but will this set up be OK to run 1060? or 1070?

    http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/1313792

    Motherboard: H87-Pro

    thanks in adv

    • +3

      will run them just fine.

  • +1

FYI shipping was free for me in Melb, VIC

  • +1

    Ordered one, thanks OP

  • I have the H170 Pro Gaming M/B. Is the card compatible? Just a sanity check.

    • +2

short answer is yes, long answer is yes

      • Yes! thanks

  • This is a great deal …. But I just bought that EVGA 1070 from Amazon :(

  • -2

Cheap, but that card is fugly. Wouldn't put it in any windowed build, that's for sure.

  • Want it but god its such an ugly looking card, also the fan seems a little too small? Might just go with the evga for an extra $40, it'd be a tidier fit in my mitx case too

  • Looks like a great deal, Have never seen a brand called Leadtek before. Are they new to the Tech Industry/ Custom GPU Cards?

    • One of the very first brands to make videocards for Nvidia :) they make mostly nvidia workstation cards these days that cost 3 to 10 times as much as gamong cards

I got one of their nvidia geforce 4 4200ti cards back in the day but they even made the first nvidia Riva TNT cards in the late 1990`s

  • Would this card be overkill to replace a 7870 in this system?
    AMD A8-7600 R7 3.1GHz
    ASRock FM2A88X+ Killer
    AMD Radeon 7870 2GB GDDR5
    8GB DDR3-1600

    • Kinda overkill, but you can always upgrade the CPU later.

    • I have the 7870 as well and I'm replacing it with a gtx 1060. Definitely not overkill. I'm getting like, ~20 FPS on DOOM on med/low settings which doesn't work well because it's a fast paced FPS

  • Bought something from PLE recently and they updated me with email and SMS on the order. Best thing is if a product is in stock in VIC/WA, they will send it to the WA/VIC store and you can pick it up for free. They also must be one of the few computer shops with no surcharges.
Oh like others have said, this is a great deal for buying local. I already got the 1070 the other week from Amazon so please PLE hope you don't have a great deal on the GTX 1070 too :)

  • The lack of SlI will kill this graphic card.

    • +5

Not everyone is interested in SLI or Crossfire.

      • It is a lack of feature..it is never good..

        • +5

Sorry but I only interested in single GPU card. If I want faster card than a 1060 in the future, I will just sell it and buy a faster card.

        • @edfoo: Yep but the future selling and buying will cost you more than just buy a second SLI graphic card.

        • @Ciccillo: I am pretty sure by the time I switch over from a 1060 to a newer gen card (1180 or 1280?), this newer gen card will perform much faster than SLI-1060 (assuming it has been designed as SLI-capable) :)

        • @Ciccillo:

Rule of thumb, always buy the best single card solution you can afford.

Leave the SLI to folks for whom the top tier single card solution isn't enough.

Once your 1060 gets a bit long in the tooth, get a new card in the xx60 range. Reason being, SLI-scaling is not a 2x increase. Moreover, the glitches and bugs you can encounter can be really frustrating.

        • +1

@gearhead: Sorry guys i can understand the opinions but i assume you do not get the point. This company cut a feature for marketing purposes.Because spending less money buying 2 GTX 1060 you can have pretty much the same performance of a 1080 more expensive. That was my point. Now if use or not the SLI is up to you but it should not be Nvidia decison. That s why this time and for the first time i will buy a Radeon card.

        • +1

          @Ciccillo:
Apologies mate. I understand where you're coming from. IMHO, I guess they didn't want to support SLI on a mid-end budget card; perhaps because it is an insignificant demographic who would be interested (and therefore not worth the effort to expend the dev resources for 1060 SLI configs).

Here's a bit more about the testing of the 1060 in quasi SLI config:
          http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2519-gtx-1060-sli-benchmar…

    • i think its more to do with price.. if the RX480 is the same price or cheaper its the better buy.. but at the right price. (substantially Lower Price) this card is just as good and the better buy… while the price is lower :)

Both cards are great products .. they just have sky high pricing at the moment due to demand and stock. mid range cards shouldn't cost this much.. this is the first good aussie price i've seen for a GTX1060

Now lets hope to see some AIB custome AMD RX480's at this price

    • What will be interesting is seeing how many future DirectX12 games support the MultiAdapter function, as there are some benches out there of the 1060 "SLI"d in Ashes of Singularity showing performance of a GTX1080.
