  • Any deals on monitors? 22 inch ?

  • Looking for a new computer for my dad, but noise is a deal breaker. My microserver is louder than my desktops =(

    • generally servers are louder than desktops.

    • +2

Well don't get him this whatever you do. VGA connection only. No speaker/headphone output. You can counter that with a usb soundcard or headphones but you've only got 4 usb on this thing, 2 on the front and 2 on the back. 2 of those are already going to be occupied by a keyboard and mouse most likely. the ports at the back are usb3 and it would be a shame to waste those on a kb/mouse and it would be a shame to have cables sticking out the front 2 usbs of this. Also unless your dad is a very light user you're going to want to upgrade to 8gb of ram right off the bat.

I don't know what to recommend but I would recommend against this.

    • It's a server not a desktop

    • Not sure how you've configured yours, but my MicroServer is as quiet as a mouse.

  • 2.49 for using PayPal?

  • +1

What's the average power consumption on this say compare to a micro server ?

    • +1

My gen 8 microserver is 43-44 watts (no unvolting) running 3 hard drives and usb for freenas os.
The ML10v2 is 47-48 with 2 SSD and 4 hard drives + 1 external, mine also has a intel i3-4170.
Regarding something like the hp proliant n40l it runs at 34 watts without a hard drive.

      • Thanks for the reply,
Decided to go ahead with this as this is probably cheaper than a micro server route.
Should I consider running Esxi ? or is Bare metal sufficient?

Will be using this as a file server, media server, pool all my hdds together, either win 10 or Xpenology.

        • Either will work, depends on what you want and how complex you want your server to be. I normally use a windows base for storage and then use hyper-v for my virtual machines on top of the windows host machine.
As for EXSI, the only way I am aware you can run it successfully is to use something like freenas and an iscsi setup, my experience is ESXI has issues with local hard drives for large storage purposes. I am not an ESXI expert though.

  • Tempting, been looking for a cheap box with ECC for ZFS use. Might give this a go, then to look for SAS enclosures :)

Edit: After reading the WP thread maybe not from this mob though. Anyone here had any issues with these guys?

    • Mine was delievered quickly without issues.

      • Thanks, ordered one earlier so we'll see.

I really really really want to buy one but I have zero space and zero need for one.
But I still want to buy one.

  • Can Win 10 be used on these? If not, what's the recommendation for OS? Home server use only..

    • +1

      Yes win 10 works great

      • 8.1 works fine, although i had issues with booting after joining a domain.
Only really an issue if you are going to use windows server as a domain controller for file permission and window 8.1 for a home server.

  • Thanks. Win 10 auto-installs all necessary drivers?

    • +1
      1. Download Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP), put it on a USB, boot from it and let it upgrade the firmware before installing Windows.

      2. After installing Windows 10, manually install the network driver (I couldn't get the next step to work without doing this first). On the SPP USB navigate to "hp/swpackages", locate and run the file named "cp026812.exe". It's the installer for "HP Broadcom 1Gb Driver for Windows Server x64 Editions".

      3. Still on the USB, in the root directory is a batch file called "launch_hpsum.bat". Run it as administrator and run the auto update process. This will then install whatever is missing.

      • What os did you specify on the HP website for the spp? I am running win 10 pro but wondered whether to specify server 2008 or 2012.

        Thanks.

        • +1

Is this for creating a custom download?

If so, I couldn't be bothered stuffing around with that option so I just downloaded the full ISO and let their installer do its thing :D

      • +1

Thanks Kamoi for the info, was really helpful.

Finally got it running. updated to the latest firmware using SPP. Switched to legacy sata controller (Not running raid) in the bios and install Win 10 on ODD sata port. installed 4xhdd to sas port, got ilo4 working (a very handy system management tool by the way). Now I just need to install drivepool, snapraid, utorrent, anti virus and get ilo4 working on the second lan port.

Spent a bit of time on this though. Not the most user friendly system I think.

  • I'm spewing I bought my gen 8 microserver and upgrade/paid for the xeon 1270 V2 / 16GB RAM /and the raid card., what a waste of cash! should have just got one of these, more powerful CPUs available, more RAM, and more HDD slots, as it is I have a 4TB hanging out the side :(

given I wasn't even using it for the first couple of years, such a waste!

    • You could always get one of those USB3 raid enclosures to expand it?

  • I don't need the 1tb hdd with it. Can i get the unit cheaper if I remove it?

    • They cannot take the HDD out, it's part of the HP [812127-375].

If you don't want a 1TB HDD, then simply buy the model without the 1TB drive, which is HP [812126-375]

      http://www.warehouse1.com.au/epages/shop.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPat…

      Simple, eh?

      • Its better to get the 1TB version for installing the OS?

        • Is that a statement, or a question?

Many people would run the OS off a SSD.

        • @llama:

What I mean was, is the onboard 1tb worth the extra $10? Is it mainly use for running the OS ?

        • @vash12:

What I mean was, is the onboard 1tb worth the extra $10?

Considering that the Ozbargain community goes apeshit when Hard Drives drop under $50 per TB, what do you think?

Is it mainly use for running the OS ?

The OS might use 50 GB, let's say 100GB tops. That leaves another 900 GB for use as storage. That's a lot of personal photos.

  • What's the most popular way to use one of these? What do most people on Ozbargain do?

    • +1

What's the most popular way to use one of these?

The most popular way is to use them as a server.

What do most people on Ozbargain do?

      Ask sensible questions?

      • I'm just not seeing what's so special about this device…?

        • I'm just not seeing what's so special about this device…?

It's special because it is an incredibly cheap server. You cannot buy the component parts (even second hand) to assemble a server for this cheap (remember it's socket 1150 with a Haswell CPU, so pretty modern gear).

However as skyva mentions below it's complicated, enterprise-grade IT equipment and basically nothing like a normal PC in configuration and definitely not easy to set up. Everything is proprietary, you need an HP account to download the drivers, and it really isn't intended for consumer OS like WIndows 7 or Windows 10 (drivers are no directly available)

If you need a server, it's a great buy. Otherwise, it's nothing special whatsoever.

You can see from the comments that people seem to think this would make a suitable base for a cheap HTPC or a desktop, so they deem it a bargain. Yet it's not the right product for that kind of usage.

        • @llama:

          Thanks!

        • @llama: which is why I would install FreeNAS or Xpenology on it and then use it as a NAS. Much simpler and no dicking around with drivers from HP.

    • +1

Although this seems like a cheap computer, it takes a fair bit to set up. Many of us use them as servers, that is to hold lots of videos that are played on other devices. I also use mine for backing up other computers, and for security camera recording.
I would have spent 10+ hours setting it up and finding drivers. That is one reason why they are cheap.
Although it has a built in video card, it only outputs full colour up to 1280x1024, so even using it for web-browsing etc. would be limited unless you put a video card in. Most of us (I am guessing) don't even have a monitor connected, we just log in remotely.

I have built several pc's and this has been by far the most difficult to set up. I would not recommend it for anyone who did not have experience in setting up a pc. But I have learnt a lot and it is currently running nicely and has taken over the job of 2 pc's which I can now shut off. Once I install another virtual operating system it will have taken over the job of 3 servers. It still won't be the pc that I use to surf the web though.

      • Thank you Skyva. Your very helpful description was great in making my decision to get one and expand my Ubuntu skills.

My Ubuntu skills were non-existent before but this is helping me revise my hardware knowledge that I have not used in years and pick up new stuff like Ubuntu command line operations.

I still have no GUI. Could somebody please suggest a decent GUI to put over Ubuntu Server or how to open a GUI in plain "Englishese" pls. I put on Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS and am trying to work with command line stuff at present and Sata AHCI on instead of Raid without a network connection on the machine. Would be grateful for any helpful suggestions. I could wipe the HD and just put in a SSD and use that or another OS I suppose. The command line thingy is pretty fun in a geeky way though.

        • Lower down this page I have linked to instructions on how to install windows and update all the drivers by connecting a remote computer. This is useful as it shows how to use various features of the server and is plenty geeky.

I would imagine installing Ubuntu would be the same as installing windows, so where I have suggested using the windows iso, the Ubuntu iso should be the same.

I personally would use a gui on Ubuntu and install it from scratch but I know little of that OS. The Ubuntu server would be useful if you had a program you wanted to run that had its own interface. For example, I run ubiquiti security software that has its own IP address on the server and its own interface. I could install Ubuntu server, then using cli install ubiquiti software, update everything, then knowing the ip address of the security software I could log into interface from any other networked machine using a web browser by typing in the address.

I do this in windows for other apps as well, as it means I can have my server running only a few programs, whilst my main pc can be surfing the web, watching movies or playing games.

        • perhaps you are expecting the RAID to work like hardware raid.

Everything other than Windows sees straight through the abstracted mess that constitutes the usual cut-rate on-board RAID controller chip, and treats it like the simple disk controller it actually is. IOW, these chips are designed to fool Windows, and require the installation of third-party logic in Windows Kernel to manage the RAID, instead of the controller handling the work transparently as you expect.

You need to load Ubuntu with the controller (in AHCI or RAID mode, just remember which you choose), and then setup software RAID under Ubuntu which in the end is far more reliable than being tied to a piece of hardware that may fail or suffer death by software neglect or poor update.

After that you'll find the command line-fu will work a lot easier than it has so far. If you want to install x-windows on top that isn't hard either:

          apt-get -y install xfce4

          and reboot

  • Tempting…

Considering changing out the fan and adding something like a 750Ti. ~$370 for a decent entry level gaming setup (with 4GB RAM).

Power supply should be fine, but not sure about the power delivery over the PCIe slot of this motherboard. Anyone know?

    • Considering changing out the fan and adding something like a 750Ti. ~$370 for a decent entry level gaming setup (with 4GB RAM).

You can't really change the fan - it is a SYSTEM fan. It's pretty much integrated. It needs to be a big, fast, powerful fan as it cools everything. The motherboard needs to have that fan there as it controls it's speed based on numerous sensors.

The machine is not really designed to add a video card into. It certainly is not designed to be a gaming computer.

Power supply should be fine, but not sure about the power delivery over the PCIe slot of this motherboard. Anyone know?

I know that it is totally not suitable for what you are proposing to do with it. The RAM is special (ECC), the PSU is proprietary, it has limited or no tweakability in BIOS.

It's not the correct base to use as a desktop machine.

      • I know it's not the correct base and not designed to be a gaming machine, but it's very inexpensive for what you're getting and I can live with a limited BIOS and more expensive ECC RAM etc as long as it can run Windows and the graphics card. Not too worried about the fan, and the 750Ti only draws ~66W under full load and doesn't require PCIe power connectors.

Far cheaper than buying the separate parts.

Thanks for the deal op - my $99 order from the last deal was cancelled but I've just ordered one of these. Should be a nice upgrade from my n36l which tends to bog down a bit!

  • Does anyone know empirically whether ESXi can access the hard drives directly under this hardware? I have read conflicting reports elsewhere!

Yes, it can use the drives but not direct pass through from the standard cpu. You would require a Xeon cpu with VT-d

      • Thanks for that

  • Hi Everyone.
Can someone please talk me OUT (more so IN) this deal. I have a NUC running for 2-3 years mostly PLEX/Emby/CP/SAB duties under a windows 2012 Vm using VMware player under windows 10. Rarely used as a media centre. I use ATV 4 for PLEX and Emby etc. The download and media is sitting on an Apple Time Capsule 2TB. I am happy to hear any arguments against and in favour of getting this server, please.
    Regards,

    • Simple - If what you have now does the job, then keep it.

If you want more grunt and a more "pro" setup that can do a lot more than the minimal tasks you are doing now, then this deal may be a step up.

  • Has anyone ordered this and received it yet? I'm keen to buy one, but after discovering some pretty bad feedback for the company, I'm bit worried about handing over any cash to them. Specifically, this thread on whirlpool: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2289733

Would be keen to hear if things have changed with this company and people are receiving their orders.

    • +1

I picked one up from docklands and had no problems. This is at least the third ozbargain post from these guys and I have heard few complaints, so far and hundreds of positive votes.

Looking at the whirlpool thread there are a few issues and lots of comments, arguing amongst posters mostly. The number of genuine complaints posted on that thread in the last 6 months does not give me great cause for concern, but I would never use direct deposit for any company.

My understanding is the ml10v2 is in stock and not drop shipped. They also had the ram I wanted in stock as well. Other stuff may vary.

15 five star reviews interspersed between 65 one stars which could be summed up as DO NOT BUY FROM WAREHOUSE1

        • +2

Being a bargain site, I often buy stuff listed here from places that have mixed or no reputation, and often the sellers have minimal customer service. I read reviews taking account of all information available to me, including payment protection.

I believe people are much more likely to post a bad review than a positive one. My take is 65 bad reviews from the probable 1000's of sales made is an acceptable risk.

I read the whirlpool thread. Most were old complaints, many were about slow stock or poor communication.

In this situation I can buy with paypal. I rang and they had them in stock, so I went in to buy it. No problems, friendly staff.

I saw that there were several previous warehouse1 bargains listed with lots of up votes, and few people had posted back with issues. I always post back with a negative review if a bargain goes sour, so a lack of complaints here means more to me than complaints on productreview.

So, would I buy a crucial replacement part from warehouse1 that I needed urgently because they were $10 cheaper than my usual local B&M? No.

But I got my bargain and am happy with the price and service.

To me being an Ozbargainer means having your wits about you to get a bargain, and not merely looking at any one positive or negative factor.

    • I ordered one on 6/8, it was processed 8/8 and has been sitting in "ready for dispatch" ever since. I've never used this mob before, did read the WP thread but paid with paypal so I'm not too concerned. I would never do a direct deposit for such a mob though. I'll give it until the end of the week until contacting them regarding tracking numbers etc. Good price for the unit though so I don't mind waiting, just as long as it'll arrive in decent amount of time I suppose. The order came up to $197 delivered (incl. shipping and extra % for PP payment). We'll see.

I have mine running Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS, using it as a VM server (VirtualBox with phpVirtualBox). Unlike Windows I didn't have any driver issues and I was up and running fairly quickly.

    • How did you go updating the bios/storage array firmware? I am struggling at the moment.

      • I disabled raid and just have one SSD running for now. Didn't update any firmware.

    • How is the B120i controller, can you set it to AHCI/JBOD mode in BIOS or is there some trickery involved? There seems to be conflicting reports floating around but most naysayers seem to be using Windows and some on BSD/Linux seem to have no issues. I'm hoping this will make a sweet ZFS box.

      • Ubuntu wouldn't pick up my SSD with the default BIOS settings so I just disabled it, detected it straight away following that.

If you still haven't found your answer I'm happy to check the BIOS options for you, anything else in the BIOS like you'd me to confirm?

        • Yeah that seemed to work for others, disabling the RAID that is. I'm hoping all disks will show up as is after that, but if you get the one that's reassuring. If anything, what's the DIMM that comes with it? I'll need to upgrade to 8GB minimum, might as well look at options while I wait for it to arrive. Thanks

  • Picked one up today. It is a great deal. I love the construction and am very happy with the deal so far. I also got the cheap SDD. The guys were friendly and helpful and easy to deal with. I am not a fanboi or connected to them in any way. I just loved that I got this deal.

I think it is all about expectations and realism. It is a server. If it makes a small amount of noise.. so what? It has not made a squeak yet. I will turn it off when I am recording the next great Puccini violin solo. The deal is cheap as a weirdo like me could suss out.

I paid with eftpos and it was no drama. No small percentage loading to preserve their obviously narrow margins. It took all of a minute and a half…after I found the place, having got lost in the docklands. It is just near the SC station.

I will be twice as happy if it works when I turn it on. I am sure it will. I think I can store all my music recordings on it and work stuff for back up over the LAN. If so then I am safe if and when my Medion Nas setup dies.

I am going to try all my apparently dead drives in it. I am sure that they will fire up as they spin without making clicking noises. Often it is just the external USB power supply or something. If not I will do what I have done in the past and open them up using the special tool I got at Jaycar. In the past I have just had to lift the stylus thingy off the platter and bingo…. new life for old drives.

  • If anyone manages to get hyper-v working on windows 10 on one of these, please let me know. I am stuck in a big way. Thanks.

  • I spoke too soon of my total satisfaction although I believe my problem has little to do with Warehouse 1 unless these are a buggy batch of servers.

Mine goes into a boot loop after the message "PXE-E61" and "PXE-MOF". That means apparently that it is trying to boot from a network when there is not network. The network boot is way after the HD boot though (and after USB etc) in the BIOS boot priorities.

I put UBUNTU server on the hard drive once it found it and it still goes to "PXE as above and loops this when trying to boot.

How do you disable the network boot so it boots from the hard drive? If so then how do you do this? Or is there another way to fix this that I am not aware of?

    • I wrote some instructions on how to get these set up for windows here:
      http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showpost.php?p=17264961&po…

My instructions were on updating firmware etc and setting it up on the b120i controller using a single drive in raid 0. If you are using multiple disks it is better to set up each as a raid 0 disk as discussed in the instructions.

Mine is still in pieces as I have had lots of trouble getting hyper-v activated. It seems installing hyper-v crashes the system so bad it destroys the format of the disk. Probaby have to give up on hyper-v at this point which is disappointing. Not sure whether a HP or windows issue.

      • Not sure about hyper V but if you have to reinstall windows there is a much easier way then you have described in your article. Essentially the first few steps are correct but if you have another 8gb usb you can make a bookable flash drive with windows using a small portable app called Rufus. You can then copy the B120 driver into the root directory or another directory of your choice on the same usb and browse to it when you are installing windows. Also after you install windows load the SPP again either via usb or just copy the iso to Windows and Mount it. Then do a auto install and it will update a whole heap of drivers. Ill post some useful videos and links here tomorrow from my bookmarks. You can also configure your raid arrays from the apps that get installed when you run the SPP from within windows post install. I was able to add 3 new drives in raid 1 with a spare afterwards. Initially began with a single ssd for the OS. Remember to backup any data you have on existing drives as it will wipe them clean when making the raid configuration. Also if you make your raid and find that your drive is not showing up in my computer. Go to start. Type partition manager and see if the drive is initialised. If not initialise it as mbr if less than 4TB and format and you're good to go.

Here are the links I talked about before for anyone that is looking for help in setting this up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3D3zAdOOWg&index=1&list=PLn… (watch the whole video series..or skip to the parts you want)

        https://guidebelajar.blogspot.com.au/2016/01/install-windows…

Lastly, everything you need is in the SPP. you can extract all the most up to date driver files from inside it if once you either extract it or create the bootable HP flash drive.

Also download version 2.0 of the USB Utility as older versions crash on windows 7/8/10

  • Has anyone who ordered these delivered had any progress on delivery? I forgot to chase them up on Friday and haven't heard anything since Monday "ready for dispatch".

    • I'm in the same boat - I'll report back if I hear any progress.

    • On the same boat too…. I've placed an order on the 8th morning and the status has been "ready for dispatch" ever since.. Called the guys a couple of times who were very nice over the phone they promised an email as soon as they received an update from their warehouse. Nothing from them yet. There seems to be a disconnect between the sales dept and the warehouse.

    • Same here. I ordered on the 8th, paid and cleared on the 9th. I checked with them on chat and they said that the order is all good. Still the status is showing "ready for dispatch".

    • I just got an email from them with a tracking number.

Looks like it left their warehouse on Wednesday/Thursday last week and arrived at a Brisbane DC over the weekend. Hopefully it'll get to me in the next day or two.

  • Price has gone up

    • Hi,

We have expired the deal as we only have about 10 left.

We may be getting some more and will re-open if we do.

      Warehouse1

      • I am also very interested if you can get some more.

  • I looked through ilo4 logs and noticed the dates on mine have been changed multiple times and there is quite a bit of activity that dates back before I got the server in my hands… Are these servers refurbished or pre owned? They were packed properly but quite a few configuration changes and reboots etc logs saved…its quite concerning to think I'm not the first owner. My machine also hanged a few times when first installing the SPP and gad to force restart before giving up and going straight to the windows installation. Lucky my server 2012 R2 installed easily enough.

    • Hi there,

These are brand new and sealed, not pre-owned or refurbished, we purchased them directly from our HP authorized distributor in Sydney and they do not sell refurbished products.

We've also sold nearly 500 units of this model and the model without the hard drive altogether (mostly to ozbargainers) and never had anyone suggest they arent new.

      All the best :)

      Warehouse1

      • There's nothing to suggest mine isn't new - maybe the logs are part of a QA process in manufacturing?

      • Thanks for the confirmation rep. I thought that would be the case. Just found the logs strange and couldn't find anything on them

  • My first time buying from this company - so some comments.

My ML10 arrived on Tuesday - was a bit slow (7 business days) and felt more so since the large HDD I ordered at the same time turned up almost a week earlier in a separate package.

The OP Rep should suggest that the operations team:

    a) send email to buyers to inform them of order status and Tracking numbers

    b) update the order on the site in the same way.

It is annoying to order then hear absolutely nothing, and not know if you've been scammed or there is a problem or whatever.

Chinese sellers of $1 items on eBay can manage it, so I am sure it wouldn't be too hard for a big professional Aussie company to manage. If necessary, employ some Chinese people to show you how to give reasonable customer service

Online sales companies thrive or fail depending on their level of communication. I would only consider buying again if the deal was cheaper, but the experience was poorer than other stores so it will be hard to remember to go to Warehouse1 and check prices. Hopefully Staticice indexes everything properly for you.

Oh, and get rid of that bloody popup help nagging chat thingy on the website. It is absolutely shit.

ALOT of mis-information in this thread. Jesus.

Just FYI for all those with some info.

They are a Proliant Ml10 v2, part of the Gen 9 offerings, they share the same chassis at the Ml110's, even the front bezel is the same, It does not come with a service tool.. It has complete ILO 4 integration, License purchase required for advanced. Ilo Piggy backs off of Nic Port 0, but can be changed in Bios/ILO.

They support ECC ram only, non-ECC ram it cause the infamous Proliant 90% initialization loop at boot. They do not support Registered Ram.
Any CPU that is LGA1150 compatible and supports ECC should work on the board, but it's best to reference the cpu microcode with the service manual first.

    Known issue and tricks:
Esx 6 vanilla does NOT work out of the box with the 120 raid controller or the HP ahci chipset, there has also been reports of users having random lockups also. Monitoring works at the bare minimum as sea of sensors support is not available.

The Customised HPE Version of vsphere/esx works wonders with latest BIOS, raid controller does not work as it's a software based controller. If you really want raid, buy a SAS raid card off ebay , unplug the mini sas cable from the motherboard, switch it to raid card. Done.

The drive is blank, depending on how you install ESX (Maybe to USB) you will have issues creating a new datastore on the drive as it has not GPT partition table, a little trick I used was to Boot into Windows 2012R2 install, format the drive then back into ESX.. Another method is parting the drive via Esx console.

You can Mix Low voltage and standard voltage ECC ram. Im currently running a combo of it and also different sizes no problems.

ESX Nic teaming with the HPE version of esx is a nightmare. I had issues with all 4 of my boxes.

The machines all displayed wierd, but not series issues when Setting them up.. as soon as I applied the latest SPP, they were very much stable.

ILO 4 Advanced is activated by a Key in ILO, either purchase or using your google skills can easily find one.

Latest Service pack for proliants can only be downloaded from the HP website if you have the warranty for atleast of Proliant server associated with your HP service account. Due to how the ML10 V2's sold via Warehouse 1 not having a carepack, you will have ALOT of troubles trying to link the warranty to your account. I would just ignore this and find a download link directly off the net. I'm currently uploading it now and will share a link.

    • I managed to get a warranty account on my ml10v2 from warehouse1. I think there are two issues:
hp split and logging in causes issues as to which part of the hp website you need to be in.

When creating an account and putting in the serial number of your device, you need to use the serial number in the bios not the serial number on the stickers on the front of the case (that unhelpfully are labelled "serial number").

Go into bios and look for advanced settings and somewhere in there is the serial number you need for warranty.
But be careful as this field is editable and if you bump the keyboard and wipe the serial number I think you might have issues.

      • I managed to set up an account with warranty details too - but the spp download failed at about the 5gb point - ended up torrenting it :/

      You sure about that?

  • Sorry for this stupid question. I learned people use this for storage. But what's the advantage of using this compared to say using a 1TB portable drive having wifi capability?

If you don't plan to add any additional hard drives into this server and all you need is storage, you should go ahead and buy a portable hard drive.
However if you are going to expand the capacity, this is a server and a server can do much more than just a storage device.

      Several reasons:

This can be upgraded/added to in future.

It will perform better, for example using NAS4free.org can result in enterprise performance and security and many more features than a consumer solution.

If it fails, you can replace the part with readily available parts.

Data may be easier to recover as many consumer NASs use obscure and undocumented configurations, proprietary software and involve other annoyances to impede you at the worst possible point.

  • Noticed that this price is still available, so tempted to get it.
Can I check if this server is powerful enough to run 2 forex program (MT4) instance 24x7?
Is 4GB ram sufficient or more is needed?
Will be connected to the internet basically the whole time except weekend.
    Thanks.

    • Not sure about 2 forex program but looking at the specs one will be fine and two should work too. Worst case scenario you will need to upgrade ram slightly.

I am keen to know about the forex program and how you are using it to trade. I want to get into forex trading. Any tips/hints/ story on how you got into it would be much appreciated.

    • Yes it will, but you will want to configure Windows (harden it) so that all the cracks and crevices are closed. The more unnecessary features you disable, the machine will run cooler and faster. Importantly, the user that runs the software needs to have very limited rights and all the non-latest authentication protocols and features need to be disabled.

You can always install a faster CPU, a quad core Xeon or an i5/i7 from a later generation will hasten it up no end.

  • Is there a similarly priced alternative to this machine, or is this the cat's pyjamas for this sort of thing?

  • Waiting patiently for another microserver deal…
