Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter - $33.60 @ The Good Guys & Officeworks

730

I've got a set of computer speakers that I would like to add bluetooth capability to. With this device I can. Seems pretty easy to use from the reviews.

I was impressed with this price.

Edit: Officeworks have matched the price to avoid price beating - Link

Purchased this for around $45. Works a treat!

  • +1

    Same price @ OW

    • +2

Ah damn! I just ordered one from TGG. Officeworks would have been 10x more convenient for me, considering where I live!

      • They seem rather proactive with it now - speaking with a rep, it appears they note the retailer when pricematching, then very shortly afterwards it's matched on their site.

Similar happened with Samsung S2 Wifi Tablet and Myer @ $519 - was updated overnight.

        • +2

Ring original place and ask if they'll price beat Officeworks.

  • +3

Same price at JB now too. JB Hi-Fi

    • +27

Good… good. Let the price matching flow through them all.

    • +1

Thank you! Now I have something to use the gift-card for :)

  • +3

This thing is just ok, I have one it’s on it forces itself to connect, can be quite annoying at times when you get home and your music is just forced to the Logitech device.
Bluetooth range is not great 7ms line of site.

    • Bluetooth does NOT require line of sight

      http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/bluetooth2.htm

      • +1

Yeah sure. But then again 2 feet and jeans is enough to screw with it if it ain't aptx (I didn't check this item to see if it was).

      • +3

I think he means it gets 7m unobstructed. Walls would reduce that range.

      • -1

That's good to know, when I get home I will coat my unit in lead, and before you answer, no I am not going to cover my unit in lead, the range on this thing is crap objects do affect the range.

:P lies, so covering this thing in lead when I get home, so going to speed home and run all the red lights and at intersections I'am so not given way to other drivers on my right while I am at it..

huh spriggan? Were you trying to be funny? So many words, so little point.

      • He never said it did. Just stating the distance with clear LOS. it will be impeded with obstructions.

  • +1

Does this connect to your speaker set via a standard 3.5mm jack or something else?

    • +3

      Yep 3.5mm

The OW link has more advertising blurb than GGs

    • The one I have has a 3.5mm jack (connected to adapter) to 2 x RCA connectors for the amp/speaker. If you need 3.5 to 3.5 I imagine it would have no problem working with an alternative cable.

  • Have been after something like this for a while - thanks!

  • +2

I've heard that some Bluetooth devices can cause a lip-synching delay. No problem if listening to music, but would be annoying if watching a movie.

    • +15

Unless your watching an old King fu or samurai film. The voice might actually sync up.

      • +4

Part of kungfu and samurai skill is the ability to delay the voice emitted from vocal chords. Comes in useful and used in fooling enemies in a duel. I think it must be the lag your brandless cable is causing.

    • It's hopeless for games for this reason.

      • Even more hopeless for live music creation apps such as Figure, if you are trying to tap out a beat for instance.

      • It might be transmitter. I seem to do ok with unnoticeable lag. Its there but not to the point it affects gameplay.

  • +5

For those planning to use this with a receiver: a Chromecast can be used for audio streaming too, without even needing a tv. I expect the quality is better than bluetooth audio (A2DP). I'm talking about a normal chromecast - does not have to be Chromecast Audio or Chromecast 2.

  • -5

    Chromecast audio

    • not every app supports chromecast, but with this u can just play mirror ur phone audio

  • Awesome i was just about to throw out my old great speaker system as it didn't have Bluetooth and I didn't know about these. Thanks op!

  • I'd second the use of Chromecast in some situations. 10m max range with the Logitech unit is quite good but you might want to consider Chromecast depending on your situation.

    • +4

I am going to neg you because your a clown!

    • +6

That's no reason to neg a deal. Your argument is like saying that a Nike T-shirt that's being discounted from $50 to $10 is not a deal because 'there's plenty of t-shirts on ebay for $5…

      • +1

100% let him get his cheap nasty one!

        • Nik, Just Doh It!

          Only two dollar. Much cheapness!

      • -2

If you want to use that analogy, try this 'a nike shirt down from $48 to $33 isnt' a deal, because uniqlo shirts are always $10.

        • -1

Nope, my analogy works. The fact that you got your neg revoked speaks for itself.

        • N00b

        • -7

          @johndoe1:

Nope - your analogy doesn't work, there's a world of difference between getting an 80% discount (in your analogy) and 26% in this deal. The retail mark up on accessory items like this is huge - circa >500%. Getting a measly 26% discount isn't a deal. As someone else pointed out it was on sale at dicksmith last year for $25.

I'm guessing you're probably one of the idiots that jumped on this deal. I hope I have business dealings with you in the future. It will be my pleasure to fleece you for all you've got.

        • sp00ker & johndoe1, please discontinue this conversation and keep on-topic.

    • Logitech are known for making good speakers. The $1-$5 speakers on eBay aren't. Only reason not to get this is because Logitech is stop making there own speakers are re-brand them as UE (which Logitech owns).

      • Deleted - wrong reply.

    • I'll give you the 3 I bought over my time for free, seriously.. they are really bad.

    • :(

    • I would think the Logitech unit should have a higher quality DAC than the cheappie ones. Although these days you never know.

      • +1

Have a look on dx.com for 'bluetooth audio module'. I'm pretty sure the logitech is using one of those.

None of claim superior quality. They're selling points are color/size/amplifier capacity. My point is logitech is probably choosing these components based on aesthetics and form factor, rather than quality.

I agree that the $1 versions from ebay are probably cutting corners somewhere, but the fact remains, you can buy a bunch of the mid-range versions on ebay and one of them will be similar quality to the logitech and you'll still be a few dollars ahead.

      • Here's a list of Bluetooth audio receivers with high quality DAC and output choices.

  • +1

I've used Logitech and Belkin ones in the past and they sound pretty average, but they are at least better than the eBay ones which my experience with a few of them has found unusable. Both the ones with the batteries+usb power and the ones powered only by USB.

If you can swing past a K Mart, they still have these around if you can find them, and they are much better in every aspect:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216920

I use them for headphones also, they have a fantastic amp in them and can drive high ohm headphones no worries - just have to be careful with low ohm headphones as they can blow them out. You can get ~3 of them for the price of this (they went from $15 to $9 in another listing on this site), and the quality difference is night and day too.

    • +1

Any idea if they're APTX? If so might go hunting one down. Thanks.

      • I'll have to get back to you on that after work. I still have the box (I'm a neat hoarder), so hopefully it will say on that.

Your username brought back some memories, Stimpy.

      • +1

        No aptx .

        • That's a dealbreaker for me.

For anyone considering using this for with likes of Spotify and Google Music, the already compressed 320kbps tracks will be compressed further by the SBC codec.

Sorry Apple users, you're screwed either way as very few bluetooth devices have native AAC support.

        • @elektron: audiophiles don't use Bluetooth anyway

        • @BargainKen: This was true 5 years ago. Technology has moved on since then. These days I listen to DSDs over Bluetooth and they sound as good as wired. Look up LDAC. AptX works great too for Redbook CDs.

  • +3

Bought this model when it was on sale last time. Works perfectly fine. I tried cheap eBay ones previously, they were rubbish. Logitech rules!

  • this is the deal I got this for last year…was a great deal…no wonder DS went broke!

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195281

  • works ok but not good with bass…

  • +1

Can I use this for my car audio speakers via Aux? Sick of connecting my phone via cable to the aux mode. Got an old car.

    • Yes but you'd need a power source for the adaptor.

      • An inverter for a portable bluetooth adapter? That's way too complex and a waste of money.

There are bluetooth receivers that can be powered by a generic 12v to USB 5v that are cheaper than this and sound better.

        • +1

No, just something to convert the 12v in your car to 5v or 3.5 or whatever the adaptor requires.

        • @YellowDieselGolf:

Twofixfiveoh mentioned below that they do make the cables that fit into the Logitech reviever at one end and 12v to USB charger at the other. I didn't have that available to me at the time when I had it.

      • +1

There is a USB cable that I bought off some china website, that allows you to plug in this unit. And it works flawlessly.

        • When I had mine those cables didn't exist. I used an inverter at the time to try it in my car. It looks like the market grew fast though for those cables - it's silly that Logitech didn't include it as part of the package seeing as it costs $1 and is something a lot of people would use it for.

    • My car doesn't even have AUX… lol. At lease it plays mp3 cds.

      • My car player takes cassette tapes. So bought one of those dummy cassette with a 3.5-inch jack and it plays music from my iPhone now. :)

    • How much power does it need? 6v or 12v?

    • The Xiaomi Roidmi might be a better option if you are fine with the music playing through the radio.

    • +1

After searching for ages, I have been happily using this for the last year:

      Jabra Streamer:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JABRA-STREAMER-BLUETOOTH-HANDS-FR…

Has an inline remote which I find very useful to skip tracks, pause music. Sound quality is very good for bluetooth.

Negatives: 1. Found the wireless speakerphone for phone calls to be poor quality. 2. Had to reset the unit a couple of times due to the bluetooth connection being corrupted

      • Thanks. Exactly something I was looking for! Cheers

  • +1

Just an FYI… I bought a heap of these during the previous Officeworks sale to include in Vintage Hifi packages I restore & sell to friends. They work really nicely and sound fantastic. They can handle two devices connected at a time too which is a nice little bonus feature. FWIW, I used to use the tiny $6 cheapies from China and although I never had a big problem with the way they worked and/or sounded these Logitech units just seem to be a bit snappier when pairing up plus people see the name 'Logitech' and feel all warm & fuzzy as it's a recognised brand and that's unfortunately what makes the world keep spinning :)

    • Overall - very disappointed with this product. I bought one yesterday to place next to the bed, so when the wife watches TV late at night and I want to sleep - she can plug in headphones.

If I use any of my headphones and go above 50% volume (which is still piss weak by the way) on my iPhone or Apple TV - the sound begins to distort heavily. I think the inbuilt amp for non-powered speakers is terrible.

I'm not sure if mine is faulty - or if other people are having similar experiences?

      • +1

I didn't think they were really designed for headphones. Of course you can use them for that but you'd be best to use headphones that had an inbuilt Amp as per cordless or some noise-cancelling types. I was under the impression this product was only really for connecting to the line-in of an Amplifier/Receiver. That's the way I've always used them and they work perfectly and sound great!

    Speaking of Logitech…

Their new packaging (with the new logo) has scarred me for life, so I will probably mention this on every new Logitech post. When you go shopping over the weekend & happen to be in the keyboard/mouse/speaker section of Officeworks, JB, BigW or wherever, keep in mind that you cannot unsee what you just saw. Then think of how something that ugly can actually escape in the real world, and all company marketers can apparently green-light it.

Filed under "I can't believe they did it."
    That is all for now.

    • +1

No idea what you're on about, I think the rebranding looks great. Miles better than the existing designs and that incredibly dated logo…

      • No idea what you're on about

have you compared the packaging on new Logitech items versus older Logitech items? Do it.

Old logo was tired, yes. But it's not the new logo I have an issue with. It's the packaging. It's ultra-cheap looking. Bland. Drab. Exceedingly boring. Unbelievably badly marketed. Sending all the wrong messages. Etc. All you have to do is compare newer packaging with the older products that still have the older logo on them (still selling).

        Tell me what you think.
It's like they sacked the whole marketing department & got the engineers to do product packaging.

    • +1

I don't get why it would scar you…

      • +1

I don't get why it would scar you…

Because it is so ugly. Almost horror-level ugly.

And so much a step down from the older devices selling next to the new stuff. The contrast in packaging is jarring. Even in isolation you'd think that it was some cheap no-name brand just trying to get a foothold in the market.

Scarring I tell you. Especially if you have half a sense for what good marketing can be (which Logitech definitely did). I can see they are going for a 'simpler' less cluttered and more 'friendly' image but man did they get this packaging wrong. Every time I go past their stuff I can't ignore it. It's unbelievably ugly. I wouldn't want to associate with anyone that approved it.

    • Is that like the GladWrap with the cutter upside down - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/glad-wrap-ditch-new-design-…

      • +1

Hah, never heard of that one. Moving the cutter position is serious stuff :)

Just gonna post this in every Logitech deal? Same BS in my Harmony Elite post. No one gives a rats ass if a colour makes you physically ill, that's your mental deficiency mate.

      • -1

Just gonna post this in every Logitech deal?

Ask the spirits. I do what the spirits tell me.

No one gives a rats ass if a colour makes you physically ill, that's your mental deficiency mate.

You cared enough to post, so I think you do. I'll mention it again 'cause it deserves to go into marketing textbooks, it does. What not to do to your brand. Anyone with half a clue about marketing should be taking note. Mental deficiency is green-lighting the new packaging. I agree. As a mentally deficient-type myself, I am qualified but unfortunatrely wasn't involved in the redesigned Logitech packaging :(

  • Do these have pretty decent distance? I bought a cheapie on eBay and it works for only like 5 meters…

  • I had one of these and found the sound quality a bit poor. Got a chromecast audio now which sounds great.

  • For better sound quality and aptx, this is better choice
    http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/Avantree-Roxa-Bluetooth-Receiver-ad…

    • Or there's the Avantree Saturn Pro which may be a bit more versatile. Can be a transmitter or receiver. Supports aptx low-latency codec. Add another for low-latency playback from any device with a headphone jack or rca outputs.

  • How does this compare to the cheap ones you'll find on ebay?
