Is this hardcover or paperback?
Hardcover
Thanks Trent86. You're a legend!
Does anyone know who wrote the book? The information seems misleading.
The screenplay was written by Rowling with Tiffany and Thorne. Rowling said she was unlikely to write another Potter book. She also does not list this book on her website, at least not yet.
Can anyone find a link that says she's definitely the author, or, is this book the screenplay that she co-wrote? Amazon says "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One & Two (Special Rehearsal Edition Script): The Official Script Book of the Original West End Production".
I'm confused.
This is the script for a play she wrote the story for and is written by Tiffany and Thorne. It starts on the west end on the 31st. It's the closest you'll get to an actual Potter book for a while yet but is indeed just a play in book form.
Thanks :)
See my comments below about it being a draft :)
Answered my own question,
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_and_the_Cursed_…
It's a draft screen play. The fixed update will be out in 2017.
"The first edition, entitled "Special Rehearsal Edition", corresponded to the script used in the preview shows and was scheduled to be published on 31 July 2016,[62] the date of Harry's birthday in the series and Rowling's birthday, as well.[63] Since revisions to the script continued after the book was printed, an edited version will be released in 2017 as the "Definitive Collector's Edition"."
I thought something was fishy about this whole thing. It's a draft script! It will still be good (I expect), but, selling a draft script as a full priced book? That's clever marketing ;)
Harry Potter and the great cashing in on the fans. ;-)
Don't be lame and downmod a joke. Downmodius nullius!
No one is making anyone buy this. Or buy the books. Or go to the movies. Or go have what I've heard is a most excellent time at the theme parks. People do it because they like the product/s, and want to. Anyway, the woman has given away a huge chunk of her wealth, she's not doing this for the money, perhaps other than to redistribute it to the neediest parts of society.
It's important to call things out when you don't like them, otherwise how do they make them better?
Exactly. If anyone tells you to stop being negative, all they mean is they don't want to deal with your problem. Turn it around and ask them why THEY are being so negative when you've provided them with a point to improve?
Those who downvoted are just proving my point.
@syousef: Everyone just calm down
Oh please. If you enjoy the book buy it. But don't pretend doing so is just donating to charity. In any case which part of the word "joke" did you not understand?
Or go have what I've heard is a most excellent time at the theme parks
Went to the one at Universal Studios in Osaka, Japan. Holy shit. It was the most magical time I've had. It felt like the movies, it was just amazing in every sense of the word
Awesome im going to Japan in September and was considering either Disney or Universal, looks like Universal wins!
Corollary to "… why build one when you can have two at twice the price?" is "why make only one, when you can repackage it differently?"
Downvoted due to lame request not to and use of downmod
Who will price match big w on this? No big w near me.
Try Supercheap Auto.
If not, Office Works might help you out.
They did stick to their word, and discount our KFC afterall.
/s
Target
Costco have it for $20 coming out the same day, so it depends what the Big W stocks are like. Costco don't price match.
Yeh, stock is going to be the big issue… Do BigW offer pre-order or allocation, anything like that?
I remember when book 7 came out Big W and Kmart etc. Had pallet after pallet of the book. So long as you're there in the morning you'll get one.
Bugger, pre-ordered on bookdepository for $24.92 delivered
cancel the order
That's cheap. Might pick it up.
Where does this lie in the Harry Potter canon/storyline/timeline/universe? prequel? sequel? alternate universe/timeline?
Or is it a completely separate story book on its own.
This is after few years the 7th book. Think story focuses on his elder child Albus
Ah right cool thanks gotcha.
Albus is actually Harry's 2nd son.
Is this the reason why film finished with the second son starting Hogwarts and not the first - they were posturing for this?
This is off topic but a kid called Albus Severus Potter would get bullied so hard at school
Having read "spoilers" I would say that it doesn't and shouldn't be considered cannon but I'm a Harry Potter snob. It is about Harry's son Albus and his time at school.
So you're a snob about a book series written for preteens.
Can I buy, or otherwise obtain, this in ebook form?
I'm legally blind and need 18pt font.
I think when the final version of the book comes out you'll be able to.
Thank you!
Im a little disgusted the ebook is more expensive than the physical one. But thanks!
Given that it has a RRP of $45 and even book depository is selling it for $25 I don't think you can really complain about paying $17 for the e version.

Yeah guy stop complaining, other people are ripping the disabled off more, you should be happy that you're only getting ripped off that much.
@Diji1:
Oh trust me, the $60k every 3 years, which the government calls "plastic surgery" so it wont fall into the 'safety net' is enough ripping off for any man :P
I'm used to my disability being rare, its just a little irksome when someone pours some lemon on the wound, haha.
Talk to Dymocks? My local one is having an event for the release of this.
Magic!
Have watched Parts I and II of the play in London and can say they managed to put everything together very well. The characters we knew as children develop a lot more depth as adults, there's humour, plenty of magic and I loved the plot so I think it will be well worth reading if you're a Potterhead!
Would you say wait until you've seen the play to read the book/script? I have tickets for September.
Definitely wait to watch it first before reading it! There are so many incredible surprises along the way so you'll enjoy it much more knowing nothing! Have a great time :)
That's what I thought! :)
Anyone know their stock level? Should I go there just right after they open or going there in the afternoon is fine? How enthusiast are people with this book? Because I think with the last book they started selling at midnight?
Never been a midnight release. Unless you're in London (ours is at 9 a.m. so everyone in the world gets the book at the same time)
I doubt stores will sell out. Great price!
Go to my local one and have a look at the kids in tears from about 10 minutes after opening.
Not to mention this adult…
(Cue menacing Liam Neeson voice)
I don't know who is responsible, and I don't know what I will do, but I WILL make Big W pay for this.
For a start, I'd intended to buy other things there today.
Didn't.
We were led to believe that they had secured the largest market share of the books to sell. Guess that wasn't the case.
Loss leaders like this (where retailers lose money on a sale to get you in the door), are the reason bookshops are closing. Among other digital reasons :)
A bit cheaper if you use a discounted egift card
If anyone works at bigw; please see how many books approx are going to each store and let us know. thanks
I might be able to get an answer tomorrow from my local store, but no promises!
Perhaps you can pass on the message that their cynical low-stock bait & switch tactic was not appreciated.
Well we were only allocated about 40 at my store and roughly 30 of them were sold at 9 when the store opened (large line outside). The other 10 were sure to be gone within the hour after. I'm not defending them but bait & switch is not the right term used here as they did have stock just underestimated demand. Also, being day one I'm not sure how much stock could have been even possible to share nationwide.
@watty: Had no idea there was a shortage, now feeling very lucky. Walked into Big W Melbourne QV this morning at 10.20am (that's almost 2 hours after opening), and just picked up a copy. No lines or anything.
what time will it be available in SA, the countdown timer is sooner than the normal 11am opening times?
In BW pagewood, sydney. Rather quiet, lots of copies available!
Harry Pothead still popular?
out of stock already, i'm sick and tired of both BigW & Target low stock strategy. If you're going to launch something big have enough inventory or just dont sell
Not surprised
a lot of retail book stores had sold out of their allocation due to pre-orders
you will be lucky if you walk into any store and simply pick up a copy
Is this an instance of, 'the play is better than þen script book?'
hahaha, it's not in the system, poor girl at self serve had pretty much every self serve checkout needing assistance as it was required to be entered manually by a staff member.
Crazy - it worked fine for us in Adelaide. Looks like your store wasn't well prepared. :P
Do you think we can enter the competition if it was manually entered?
The receipt doesn't say Harry potter book on my receipt.
In typical Big W fashion they have about 10 copies and sell out in minutes. Nothing more than bait advertising to get people into their store.
Certainly seems like it.
Well, the getting people in the store bait might have worked on me, but the actual buying anything from them is now suspended in disgust.
Not true mate, had a little over 40 copies and we are a relatively small store.
It is true 'mate'. I witnessed it myself and had to deal with an extremely upset child due to big w's grubby tactics.
If you purchase a copy from Big W, keep your receipt, there is a competition running to win a $5000 Big W gift card.
If the competition is being run to the same standards as the low-stock bait & switch tactic, I've got a feeling no one's going to get that $5000.
what could they possibly have switched it with?
Lots of copies at bigw merrylands nsw. Kmart have them same price too
Might be the Arabic language version in Merrylands
Still $15 at Kmart today
Plenty of books left at Kmart Southland! BigW sold out. Dymocks refused to price match stating they will lose money..
Poor form Dymocks
Not at all. Each business has the right to set their own price.
DJs QueensPlaza have sold out of their copies because everyone pricematched for $15 ahahaha
Disclaimer: DJs employee. We price match! FYI if you're heading to Warringah Mall DJs, also sold out.
bigw & kmart hurstville all sold out. target had about 20 copies about an hour ago (albeit @ $25).
Kmart Eastgardens has about 20 copies left. Don't know if they have more at the back.
The book rack is close to the entry. Don't do what I did, going to the book section.
Thanks for posting this. Big W Colonnades (SA) still has copies left. The queue outside had nearly 100 people in it before opening. Looking forward to reading it!
None at Big W Forest Hill (VIC) - they sold out shortly after opening - so can't have had too much stock.
Target had a lot left at 11am for $25
Saw a woman get into a loud argument with store manager trying to price match.
She slammed the book down in disgust and left.
BigW Arndale SA had some left when I was there at opening.
Big W Plumpton, Blacktown and Penrith sold out :(
3 left at kmart blacktown 20 min ago for anyone in the area
I called them about 2 hours ago and they said they were sold out - how annoying! I end up paying $25 at Target!
My local Big W had sold out when i got there just after 11am there.
Went to Kmart afterwards same price 😀
for me Kmart means spending $7 on return trip, so no point. i'll wait for bigW to restock on Thursday it will be $20 ($5 extra)
target refused to price match ($25)
shame on BigW low inventory on launch day, typical of them
That's kind of harsh! I mean other places had it for $25 like you said (Dymocks included) so people were more keen to buy it for $15 hence the lack of availability. Kmart had them for $15 as well so I do feel for you mate but there's nothing to be a shame of when they offered a really decent price and a lot of other people got to enjoy it.
Are you a WoolWorths board director?
Nope, just a Uni student working to make ends meet while I finish my degree.
Sad to see some people being quite negative against Bigw for not being able to secure a cheap copy of this book. In a perfect world there would be millions of copies on day one and everyone would only have to pay cost price. I won't speak for all the stores but my one genuinely had more than 40 copies and had no intentions of bait and switching. It was first come, first served and there were plenty of hyped children and tired parents waiting outside the store hours before we opened and they deserved a copy. If you lined up and missed out then that's really unfortunate and I do feel for you but if you came a little later than the others then you can't expect to be entitled to a cheap copy when someone else took the time and effort to line up there before you did. I'm not defending BigW just because I work for them but I think some people just don't appreciate something for it's value just because they missed out. Just something for those people to think about.
More like save $30 because the RRP is $45!
