QNAP TS-431 4 Bay NAS $303.20, TS-431+ $399.20 Delivered from eBay Futu Online

160
CTEC20

ShoppingExpress has a price drop on these two 4-bay QNAP NAS this morning — TS-431 $299 and TS-431+ $429 + postage ($11.70 to Sydney). As expected, Futu Online remains at their original price but after the current 20% off Tech Deal with coupon code CTEC20 and free shipping, the eBay price is cheaper.

I use an old QNAP 2-bay NAS — these are nice little machines with great software from QNAP. It is possible to run a proper chroot Linux distro installed on the HDD to expand the functionality, however I ended up just migrating to an HP Microserver as I needed more than just a NAS.

TS-431+ has faster Cortex-A15 CPU and 1GB RAM, verses TS-431 with Cortex-A9 CPU and 512MB RAM, which chews a bit more power.

  • Shopping Express has the TS-431 for $299, though their TS-431+ is $429.
I am looking at 2-bay NAS. My current QNAP 2-bay is TS-210, old, slow and fan is faulty. Looking at Futu's models - TS-231 $199, TS-231+ $271 and TS-251 $319 (after 20$ discount). Would like that Celeron-powered TS-251 but $319 getting a bit expensive.

    • don't forget shipping :)

  • worth upgrading from ts-431 to ts-451?

    • +1

Yes, significant improvement if you want to do any virtualisation on it as the CPU is an Intel (Celeron) and the RAM is upgradable. I'm running 10gb RAM in mine with 3 virtuals on 4x 4tb drives and it runs very well

  • I have an older TS-459 - excellent device. Today I thought I'd try setting up openvpn to access my home network remotely and it was incredibly easy. Would not hesitate to recommend. Only minor drawback I had recently was when moving from 2TB to 4TB drives. It took maybe 8 hours to replace each drive. Did it without issues and (although I had one just in case) saved me from having to use my backup so now have double the TB goodness.
