True, but consider that JJ appears to offer very good after sales support - I clicked through and was pleasantly surprised to see comprehensive instructions / trouble shooting provided for issues users were having (can't login to Netflix etc).

Might be worth the extra few dollars.

      • -1

        $12 extra dollars?? Seems like a stretch…

  • -1

is that mean this box provides Netflix, Stan and Presto channels free?

    • +1

As long as you have a subscription

      • subscription of Netflix for eg?

  • +3

If I were buying a budget Kodi box right now, I'd buy one with the Amlogic S905 chipset (this one is a S805- the previous generation).

    • I have this box (paid for almost double once upon a time) and it runs without any issues, no buffering whatsoever. I have used the MXQ pro 4K (S905) and the only obvious difference is sources on Kodi loading faster. You would be hard pressed to run or stream any 4K quality media.

    • …. and with 2GB RAM.

    Saw this on their website.

  • I have two of these MXQ boxes from ebay.

You can install Libreelec/Kodi onto an sd-card and these run very nicely. 1080p x265 no problems (8-bit only, not 10-bit) - https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread-200.html

They have Android Kitkat installed on the internal NAND memory, and they are painfully sluggish.
Netflix plays back fine once you're in there, but navigating around the android UI isn't much fun.

    • +1

Is Kodi still working with 1Channel? I found that I can't get 1Channel to work anymore.

      • I don't use the bundled Android Kodi, and I haven't used 1Channel sorry.

      • 1 Channel was no long working,

  • These Android boxes are great for Kodi,
but Netflix, Stan and Presto are inferior - touchscreen interface, no HD, no surround - unless it has improved recently?

    • What do you mean?

      • Exactly what I said. The Android streaming apps are far inferior to the ones in Roku, Apple-TV, Blu-ray players, chromecast, etc.

      • No HD streams. Only SD streams are available in Netflix with one of these generic android boxes. With Apple TV and Ruku they stream 1080P streams. My Android Sony TV streams 4K Netflix without issue.

  • I have kodi on my sony tv wow why was not into this before and till to set up a minix ui to another tv.
I now want to find a cheaper box but not crap for our new tv in bedroom.
I do already have 3 apple tv's set up for netflix usa but want to use kodi for more stuff.
    Is this worth buying?

Be a better deal if its free postage

    Whats the best IPTV service?

  • Hey guys, is this the same as Apple TV?

  • +1

I have quite decent experience with android TV boxes and can recommend

    Middle segment price
    MXIII-G or MXIII Plus.
Both have Amlogic S812 and can play all formats available now. 5k, 5.1 passthrough DTS sound.
    Average price is 70AUD
    http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_339984.html (sale for 56)

Top segment and best of android box

    Himedia Q10 Pro / Q5 Pro
    Everage price is 220AUD
4k, 7.1 DTS passthrough and even more function.
q10 has disk enclosure q5 uses external if required.

    • Thanks for the tip :)

Himedia Q10 Pro looks awesome but unfortunately I got the Minix NEO X8-H Plus recently.

How is the after support regarding firmware / software updates from Himedia?

      • There is not much update for firmware but provided one was solid. They have EU website with good support as well.

  • Does anyone know if this will be able to play content from a local NAS ?

    • I have a windows network share on my nas which this works perfectly fine.

    • Hi smurftastic. You shouldn't have any problems using it with a nas.

      • Thanks for the quick response Kaiden and JollyJohns

      • Will this play media from my DLNA enabled linux server?

  • Is this a good deal or box compared to others or spend more on something else it would be used with wifi as no option otherwise so do some have longer range using wifi than other or all same as said its for a bedroom

    • I've read that the nVidia Shield is the best Android TV box.

Personally, i've used 2 generic android boxes (one is a Trony MXIII 4k the other a Playon TV box) as well as the 'closed' (but work-around-able) Amazon Fire TV box and Amazon Fire TV stick. I also own an Android Sony TV.
Out of all the external boxes i've used I can highly recommend the Amazon Fire TV products. Reason being:

      1) RF remote: Not line of sight/infrared like the other generic android boxes.
      2) Speed: They just feel less laggy and faster to use. It could have something to do with the RF remote but the generic boxes seem to just lag a lot. I was less frustrated once I was in Kodi as I would just switch to the IOS Kodi remote.
      3) Buggy: The generic Android boxes would randomly freeze and become unresponsive.
      4) Updates: Sure some of these updates have made it harder to load some software but at least know problems are usually addressed and fix.

Having said all of that I will no longer waste money on generic android boxes. I CAN highly recommend Amazon Fire TV products for there speed and general stability. If i were to buy another android TV box it will be the nVidia Shield.

      Cheers,
      Roemac.

  • I would buy if comes with free post :-)

    • Is it worth it even with free postage

  • I was looking at getting a Chromecast for our second TV for NetFlix, but now I'm thinking a Kodi box might be better.

    A few questions:
    * I assume you can copy the advancedsettings.xml to these for network MySQL setups? (Googling seems to indicate yes).
    * Can these playback x265 10bit videos? That's 90% of what I get these days.

    • I have a chromecast and dont think anything of it to be honest have in my bedroom and think the apple tv offer more

      • Is this the same as Apple TV?

      • I already have a Chromecast and I used to have a full HTPC hooked up to this second TV but looking to downsize. I thought a Chromecast would be good enough but hadn't considered a Android box + Kodi = full movie/TV collection too.

Hey all, not sure if I'm allowed to comment on my own post, so apologies if I'm breaking any rules.
Some foreign sellers are cheaper but they don't have to pay gst. We also offer very fast delivery from within Australia and batteries which you won't get elsewhere.
We also offer great service. If something should go wrong with the box within 12 months we pay for return postage and offer a replacement.
To play different media files have a look in the play store for an app. If there's one available in the play store it should meet your requirements.
Thanks all. I'll be driving for the next few hours so apologies if I miss any comments.

    • Is this the same as Apple TV?

    • Hi Rep, I am happy to buy if comes with postage free, can you do for promotion, cheers

  • ~AUS$28 delivered for an android box with the same specs from everbuying.

        • Got you never heard of company any good? Now thats cheap but is it worth it at that prices just be for bedroom tv which is maybe 40ft or 50ft away if doing through walls.
Dont really have issues with other wifi devices.
Dont want to spend to much on a bedroom one but dont want a pile of crap also.

        • @bwatt99: i have a similar box with the same specs in bedroom. my router is 30ft away and through 1 thick old plaster wall and the wifi is totally fine. though I haven't tested it for streaming, just internet browsing and downloaded VLC for android.

great box. with VLC it played all media types. used the box with a cheapo wireless mouse. plugged my 2tb portable HDD into the box and it played no problem.

I've used everbuying for a quite a few items recently. postage is 4-6 weeks. I'd recommend them.

  • Everbuying has anyone else's used them for 28 Aud sounds good more so just for the bedroom as will have a minix ui for one other room Sony tv which has smart tv and was looking at this for bedroom.

Had planned on Amazon Fire as mentioned above but cost much more
