    Really good offer, OP.

My girlfriend just bought a new car and this would be perfect for her! Such a shame it's on in NSW. Maybe pop NSW in the title for other OzBargainers :)

Don't bring a new car to this type of training. Most exercises practically trash the cars. Should almost get a rental.

      • Bring the car you would regularly drive. The whole purpose of the exercise is to learn how to control it correctly.

      • Exactly what Geewhizz said, Only thing that could 'trash' the cars is a bit of excessive tyre wear but we wet down the roadways and find their is minimal tyre wear

I did this course in Brisbane years ago and am very glad I did. I learned quite a bit about how my car handled an about 12 months later almost had an accident and I feel I reacted differently as a result of this course and controlled my way out of the skid safely.

If I had children, I'd be happy to pay for them to do this kind of course as soon as they have their P's.

how to defensively drive while trying to catch that pidgey on the freeway?

  • What's the insurance requirements? Do (or can) people take this course in a rental car?

My girlfriend hasn't driven in quite some time and needs to get back on the horse but we don't currently own a car to bring with us.

    • You need to check with your individual insurer for details on coverage however it is an extremely safe and low risk course. The course is safer than driving on the road normally. You are more than welcome to attend in a rental car and we also have a vehicle you can hire for the course.

  • Accidents happen because either people drive recklessly or because they aren't constantly scanning their surroundings so that they are aware of any hazards and be able to avoid them.

  • I thought defensive driving meant i got to drive a tank

    • +4

      No, that's offensive driving.

  • How much wear will this have on a car? I'd like to do this but my car is pretty old and gets worn down quickly

    • +1

it sounds like a 70 yrs old wants to learn/practice some sprint technique.

      • Unfortunately I'm not 70 lol

My car feels like a 70yr old though

    • No more than it would on a highway. If your car isn't capable of handling a few emergency brakings, I'd question whether you should be driving it at all.

penrith is too far, wish they hold the course in olympic park (rhodes).

    • +1

This course need a large flat space and where do you think in olympic park have that except in the car park and give you authorities to do this kind of training?

    • It's usual to travel to the outskirts and beyond for advanced driving course. St Ives, Penrith, Eastern Creek, Goulburn are the usual locations.

  • Will there be a defensive driving course in the future that covers how to control a car when it travels sideways?

    • After completing our Defensive Driving Course you are then eligible to complete our Advanced Driving Course which cover what you are asking. We have our next course on Saturday 3rd September from 8-12am or 1-5pm and after a good turnout from Ozbargain members we are extending the deal for this course. Please email us at [email protected] to book into the course. Once you complete this course we will let you know when we have an advanced course

  • If these are on tracks - that is not public roads - i'm 99% certain your insurance doesn't cover you.

  • My partner and I did this one yesterday. It was a well run course and worth the money. I did one about 15 years ago and thought I'd do a lot better than I did. Awkward when you realise how quickly you lose skills you don't use.

It was a bit of a hike from the city (International Regatta Centre) but worth it for the price.
