Goldair 2000W Convector Heater $23.99 @ Masters

160

Decided to upgrade the home heating situation as I realised using a small fan heater is akin to burning money to warm the room.

As per the current promotion, this heater comes down to $24 after 20% discount.
Has a couple of glowing positive reviews on the site.
Appears to be a decent price as a similar heater retails for $35 at Kmart.

  • 3 heat settings
  • Adjustable thermostat
  • Easy carry handles
  • 1800-2000W

Using this heater is equally akin to burning money to heat the room as a fan heater.

Thought i should tell you the new heater you got wont be more economical. They both use an element that will produce the same amount of heat per unit of electricity put into them. The fan will use a miniscule amount extra in comparison to the elements.

Yep, and even all the energy used by the fan ends up as heat.

Fan will actually help heat the room quicker I reckon

  • Sorry to rain on your parade, but this heater will chew equally an amount of power as the fan heater. All electric heaters are equal in their power usage.

    • I see Watt your point is.

Goldair makes the heaters for Kmart. It's v low quality Chinese toxic heating elements

    • "Chinese toxic heating elements"
      What do you mean?

      • +1

Toxic vapours… Heater and air fresher in one… Bargain I say!!!

Seriously though,I feel a fan heater helps heat up the room quicker.

Any evidence to back up that claim?

What you are probably describing is the "new heater stink" which all heaters put out.
      It is a combination of:
-Oils and/or sealants cooking off the element
-Plasticisers and other volatile compounds "gassing off" the casing
-Fire retardants in any plastics gassing off.

The best idea with a new heater is to run it outside on high for an hour or so. The cook-ff off of volatiles is highest when its brand new. Once everything stabilises you wont notice it, most likely.
PS Nothing to do with China, any heater will do the above.

  • Forget which forum but hints for staying warm in winter
Best if you pick up some kind of troll creature from licenced establishment perhaps
Lure one away from a one armed bandit with cheap wine and possibly a three day growth
    Then it gets easy
Open it up with your lightsaber and climb inside
Burst out in the morning like some kind of alien baby and scurry off
Clean ups a bitch so maybe out in the yard?

  • Your fan one was probably better.

Convection heaters make hot air rise out of them. The hot air just pools at the ceiling until it cools. At least the fan one you had circulated the air a bit better.

As others have pointed out they are both money eaters and this one isn't going to help your power bill at all over the old one. If you want say 2000w of heating from an electric heater you need to put that power in. The only way you are going to get more heating energy out than power energy put in is using reverse cycle air con. Then you would be putting money into something more efficient and getting more heat for your $

  • All heaters are 100% energy efficient, a reverse cycle aircon is over 300% efficient

It sounds like I'm trolling you but look it up. Reverse cycle aircon brings in warm air from outside the room.

    • Is there any comparison between reverse cycle aircon and wall gas heater?
Which one is more energy effecient?
I have both of these installed in my house, but wondering which one is more cost effective to warm up the house.

      • I am pretty sure RC was cheaper to run than gas last time i read about it but i don't have anything at hand to back that up.

Also, depends on the supply price you are paying for each in your area i guess.

        • Thanks for your reply.

    • Reverse cycle air conditioners don't bring air from outside the room, they bring heat from outside the room (in the form of pressurised gas). This is generally much more efficient than simple electric heating.
