The Logitech X100 does not seem to have Calling and Hand-free function…. at least it is not listed in the spec.
This mentions speakerphone function but goes on to say its rubbish for it.

"The speakerphone is a disappointment though. The sound output is muffled in a strange way, and the person at the other end of the call had a hard time hearing me in most cases. It works just about fine when it's quiet indoors though."
it's a $15 bluetooth speaker, it's going to be awful for everything, not just making phonecalls ;)
I knew that. was just saying the feature is there for the like for like comparison.

Goes to show you how opinions vary.
These guys seemed to think the speakerphone function was fine on the x100.All opinions about sound quality on the internet are subject to too many variables, unfortunately. Best way is to just try it yourself (I have yet to try the x100).
this is true. Thats why i read as many reviews as i can to get the general consensus on products or items i am interested in buying. And if possible try them out before i buy.
Spec says it does phone calls.
I just tested mine and it works fine. The mic pickup is a tad quiet though. But I find that to be a common problem across BT speakers and headsets not very close to the mouth, and I doubt the one advertised here would be any better.
Nothing beats a hike in the woods whilst blasting some electronic dance music.
How's that serenity?!
What?!?!? You gonna have to talk louder. Cant hear you over the… udzt… udzt..udtzzzz
isn't it "Doof Doof Doof" ?
Was going to say cant hear you over the loud music but the beat was just drowning out the rest of what i was saying.
Serenity?
Was just reading the Aldi catalog & wondered who would go hiking with this? Then remembered hiking & camping in a national park - just me & the wildlife. Next day a Scout troop turned up lugging in a generator & electronic organ - f**#ing Kumbaya.
That would drive anyone mental.
I do. Kayaking too. Don't keep it on all the time - just when I feel like a break from the serenity or sometimes during a power surge. Maybe an album per day. Also great around the campfire at night.
Or sound of music. But hey. To each their own right.
Picnic in the woods? Nah man, its a rave party!
This one has "calling and hand-free function", not just for music. It may be a handy feature in some situation while hiking….lol
Yeah. You need this to scare snakes whilst trekking. Play lion sounds on repeat.
Just another option in the same-ish price bracket:
$19 white http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-wireless-bluetooth-po…
$19 black http://www.harveynorman.com.au/toshiba-wireless-bluetooth-po…God, can't believe I am promoting Hardly Normal. One of my most despised stores.
Anyway, something to note: Toshiba uses a unique cable that is USB "Mini B" on one end. The other end has 2 plugs: regular full-size USB plug for charging & a 3.5mm plug dangling off it too. The unit has no separate 3.5mm socket for the LINE IN input. LINE IN is switched on the unit itself & the signal comes in through the same USB socket used for charging.
If you lose (or damage) the special cable then you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle (especially if you prefer not to use bluetooth). Though you can source one on ebay I guess. I thought I'd mention it because it's just another speaker option at about the same price.
Thanks for the write up Cheepwun
as the HN website makes some errors (possibly)
3.5mm aux line in for non-bluetooth devices.
Rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery built-in. Simply recharge using the provided micro USB cable.

yep, definitely not Micro USB
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/audio/wireless-speakers… "Mini USB charging cable" … not micro. Can buy a spare cable from ebay though: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB2-0-A-Male-Mini-5pin-B-Male-3-…LINE IN also done through the USB cable (3.5mm plug at the phone/tablet end of course).
When using bluetooth there is an annoying flashing blue light as well. Why they do this is beyond me. Pouch has no separate pocket for the cable, so I find it less useful than it could be, especially if you don't want the cable scratching the speaker.Otherwise a good small speaker if you value portability and battery life.
U can use this as a noise grenade, I threw my Bluetooth speaker with full blast white boise at a bunch of kangaroos, they ran away immediately never to return.
Good for self defense against annoying animals while hiking
Noise grenades can be fun with the right choice of music / sound effects.
Not quite the same, but threw a $3 BigW floating Bluetooth speaker (deal from long ago) over the fence & into the neighbour's pool as a joke. It is colour changing & pretty loud. Fun watching them figure out what was going on that night.
At $3 it doesn't matter if I get it back (they gave it back). Don't know if I'd potentially waste one costing $17. Wildlife are known for souveniring things. (Where did I leave my 🚼?)
Better off with this one.
