Best Credit Card for Partners (2 people)

Hey everyone

I've been seeing lots of discussions around different types of credit cards but nothing I could find that would work best for 2 people.

I'm looking for a credit card that my partner and I can use to share groceries, gas, electricity, petrol, etc. Things that we share anyway.

What are the best credit cards available? Looking to get most points possible, avoid fees (if possible) and am open to your recommendations.

Background: My partner has no credit cards and I have the ANZ FF one (with AMEX and VISA cards).

Thanks!

My partner and I intentionally do not share a credit card. That way we can sign up for more cards overall and increase our Qantas bonus points haul. All the shared costs like groceries go on my card and we split it at the end of the month.

  • yo get the most points possible you should both sign up to a separate cards. look for the deals on here for $0 first year fee plus 50000 qantas points etc.

  • Perhaps one of the fee-free Amex cards, with reward points will suit your purposes. My partner and I share the Amex Essential, and the Amex Discovery accounts for everyday use, and there are no supplementary cardholder fees. Unlike other banks, Amex provided approval without asking us for all kinds of evidence/paperwork, so very swift/easy process.

Comparison of their reward percentages, pros/cons are in this recent comment. Consider applying via a referral link for increased bonus points. Feel free to ask me any questions since I am very familiar with these two cards.

For the rare occasions where Amex is not accepted/has surcharges, I fall back on the 28 Degrees card, which is fee-free, but does not accrue points. (Sometimes, one can use PayPal or Aust BillPay, when direct payment could not use Amex). So Amex Essential is my main everyday use card.

Additional Amex-issued cards also increase your chances of getting cashback offers (discussion here), which may not appear on your bank-issued Amex card.

  • Just add a supplementary card to your existing card? Or if you want a new card, just find one that works out for you and add a supplementary card. It's not like insurance where you can get on for singles and one for families.
