What kind of pads are they using to be able to do a brake job for $129. Why do I have a feeling it's not Bendix.

A quick search for Bendix at SCA shows prices at ~$78/set (presumably they'd get them cheaper)
Last time I changed pads, it took me 10mins / ea (at home, presumably they'd be quicker)

Even if they're paying retail, and only go as quickly as me (with a trolley jack, and a manual wheel brace) that's over $150/hr (excluding overheads)

But knowing how much mechanics often charge people, it's probably one of those cheap $30 sets. (and if they're using Bendix, they'd probably advertise that)

      • Every car only takes will take 10 to change brake pads?
Most newer Audi has 6 small front brake pads per side.
Most newer cars will have solid front brake callipers to stop calliper flex giving you that soft useless brake pedal sense, which requires the entire assembly to be removed without putting too much force on the brake line or it will tear.

For $129 for a proper job to be done on the only thing that will stop your car in an emergency, does not sound too bad of a deal.

      • i get my bendix thru work for about $50-60/set, and genuine pads cost me roughly the same depending on brand.

i agree on it being the $30 set of pads, which whilst im sure is better than no pads, i often question, what is missing on those pads that make them so cheap, or what is bendix doing that is making the pads so expensive.

        • I'm not sure why Bendix is more expensive, but I've experienced less dust and longer wear times, as well as no squeak (except for one Bendix set that was in a car when I got it, which I replaced with another set of Bendix without issue). The squeak is my biggest reasoning.

Also, the cheap ones sometimes contain Asbestos, etc. - eg This.

  • Valid till 31 July.

  • Its a pretty standard price, I got charged this at Kmart auto so for this price to be posted for just 1 town in Australia is an annoyance.
