Nice, $5 discount on this popular deal

    • That deal did start down at US$9.99/AU$13.20. So equivalent

      • Good find, should have checked the revisions before I posted that :)

        • +1

          It was my deal :)

I suddenly feel like beef and black bean sauce tonight with added mono sodium glutamate of course

Doesn't work in Australia because you can't download the App from itunes here.

    Had to throw mine out.

    • +15

      Shame you threw yours out..
If you just checked the comments on the old one you'd see people with IOS got theirs working fine..

    • Hello, for anyone else in this situation… you should be able to make a new itunes account and just select a country that has the app available for download

    • +3

      Had to throw mine out.

In the bin or just in the 3rd drawer of the kitchen

    • This is the APP download page, it works fine on both IOS and Android System.
      http://www.broadlink.com.cn/en/app/

Now, all the TV's at the tip will turn on.

      • +2

Are they battery or solar powered TVs at the tip?

        • +6

Neither, once TV's get to the tip they develop self awareness and start farming seagulls. It's a pretty good life.

    • OR you just didn't look in the right place??!

      https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/broadlink-e-control/id793152…

I have a few of these and they work brilliantly.

  • Rep, do you have a list of supported devices? I have the Broadlink RM Pro. Unfortunately, it is sitting in my drawer, because my TV and my Aircon are both not on the list of supported devices.

    • yeah I hunted for a list. I even downloaded to app to see, but you need a broadlink device setup first before you can add your own devices.

    • If you can't learn the button, please try press and hold the button, see if it can work.
And, you can also use the app's controller customize function,
It can learn most the IR code as long as its frequency is 38K.

  • While I have all the smarts and tools to make something like this (and I was planning to!) I couldn't barely could do it cheaper than this. So I grabbing one. Thanks OP for the deal!

  • +9

what's the range of these things? I'd love to stick one outside the neighbours lounge window when the footy is on.

  • Buyer beware: does not work on Foxtel!!!

    • Which is a bastard, because it'd make an excellent (and cheap) Foxtel extender for the bedroom TV.

Foxtel boxes have a different transmission frequency (56kHz) for the IR compared to most other devices (38kHz).

    • If you are looking for something that does work with Foxtel the Global Cache iTach flex can do 20 to 200kHz. It can do really odd signals with big delays like air conditioners too. Not at all cheap though.

    • I am using mine with foxtel iq2 with no issues

  • Does this need to be in line of sight of the devices you are trying to control? If not then how (well) does it work?

    • +1

Works anywhere in the room, it has a ring of IR LEDs pointing in all directions under the translucent cap.

      • Good to know, thanks!

    • It is super forgiving. I have mine stashed away so they cannot be seen and they hit my aircon units every time.

  • Works on an old mitsubishi air con so I can turn it on when away from home, I assume it's opened a gateway as I didn't have to do anything.

  • +1

Will it work with daikin aircon

  • Will this work with Foxtel?

    • Foxtel is a TV service company as I know, but the product is for control the TV itself,
you can control the device as long as it is controled by IR code. Thank you.

      • +2

you can control the device as long as it is controled by IR code

NO… it's not that simple. Read comment above

        This device is IR frequency : 38K;

        Foxtel requires 56K (Hz).

        • +2

Not exactly. Foxtel does use 56kHz but will also respond to 38kHz remotes. My Microsoft MCE blaster works fine as does my Logitech Harmony and URC universal remotes - all 38kHz remotes to my knowledge.

The problem is that often the learning side of them will not receive modulated 56 kHz so it's hard to teach them

        • +1

          @Shonky:

Good point. I have just used someone elses pre-configured remote for IQ2 and it is working like a dream. All buttons work perfectly.

        • +1

          @Mattg:
I would say the maybe a little less sensitive but certainly works fine.

Logitech are good in that respect since they have the pre-configured database and Foxtel is already in there. If you could get hold of one at least temporarily you could use it to to transmit the Foxtel codes (at 38kHz) to teach a device like this since its database will no doubt be missing them.

        • @Shonky: That is a big help - thank you very much Shonky

Thanks rep, I got one. You had me at "low bargain price"

  • For those buying please note this has ZERO integration with cloud based services like IFTTT. I purchased one and found out the hard way. If you buy it please be aware it's only controllable via the broadlink app and cannot be integrated to anything else.

For me this is quite a shame because these Chinese companies (broadlink and xiaomi) make great home automation products at great prices. I'm however steering clear until I can integrate them with other devices through services like IFTTT.

    • There is an icon on the product page saying "IFTTT LINK"…?

      • +1

Yeah its a bit of a scam that it says that. What I think they mean is it has "IFTTT like" functionality as in you can trigger things to happen based on other broadlink devices. (i.e based on motion from the S1 sensors or temp / humidity on the A1).

I have a fair few broadlink devices so if anyone has questions I'll do my best. I bought one of these during the first sale to go with my 2 x Broadlink RM2's but its sitting in a draw for now since I need the tasker plugin to use it how I want.

      • I find a lot of the Chinese manufacturers claim IFTTT capable but this is often not true. The best way to check is to goto ifttt.com and check that a channel exists for the devices you buy. Neither Broadlink or Xiaomi have a channel and hence they won't work with ifttt.

    • There is a tasker plugin which works with the other broadlink rm devices called "RM Plugin". Hopefully the dev will update the app to work with this and you can then use this in tasker.

      https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.originally.…

      • That's the problem, one has to hope that it gets supported and even then it's by a 3rd party and not the device maker themselves.

I've dabbled with tasker and the key problem for me is if you rely on it too heavily it will kill your phones battery life. I've considered running an android VM on my server to host tasker however that's too much work at this time. I've not heard of anyone doing it successfully either.

        • I reckon RM Plugin will be updated soon to support this, someone could email the developer and ask. I use tasker extensively and don't have any battery drain issues. Did you set it up with a gps location? That might kill your battery.

    • What is the best option that works with IFTTT?

  • So this is good for Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge then

  • can we actually use this device with android apps like "Smart Remote" as the IR blaster, so we can use the Smart remote macro feature to program a sequence of commands?

  • Funny Ad page, haha.
Romantic time. Care for your pets, "thankyou". :-P

Not sure if I ever need to control things like this via my phone. I suppose it's also like an external IR module for phones that don't have them built in.
Probably just another piece of tech I won't use.

  • Brought one a few months back. Works fine with my tv's, air cons and sound system.

  • So this is like logitechs hub, but a fraction of the cost?

  • what does it mean by turning on the AC while away from home? does it connect to internet, not only wifi?

    • Do you run your wifi behind some sort of military firewall?

  • Might be a silly question but do you need the remote of the device to code the Black Bean? Lost the remote for my Yamaha amplifier when I moved house recently.

    • Not necessarily.
For a Yamaha Amp I reckon you'd be pretty safe.

      • How? I have a Pioneer VSX 917 amp with no remote but I cant find how to pair it.

  • Does anyone know if this will work with Panasonic Air Conditioners? My remote model is 4406 however can not find any info on frequencies used.

  • is there a link to the application, there are many that appears on appstore and none seems to be working…. probably an english tutorial will benefit the members to buy and setup normal things like Aircon,TV and Sound system. C'mon bangood you can do that create a tutorial for the broadlink config and pairing electronics with the device e.g. Samsung TVs, LGs

  • I don't have a lot of faith in broadlink products after using the air quality detector. It gives the most innaccurate readings. Also, there's no integration with IFTTT

  • How does this compare to the Logitech Harmony Smart?

    • That's like comparing apples to androids

      • Really? This to me looks like the smart hub part of the Logitech Harmony system. You put the central IR blaster where it can see all your devices and both use a phone app to command the IR blaster and trigger all the devices within range. Seems like a similar product.

        • Sorry, I was unaware of the similarities!

  • Thanks op. grabbed one.

  • +4

When I go to the site,it initially shows as 9.88, but then quickly changes to US$12.55. Has the promotion finished, or am I missing something?

    • Still says US$9.88 for me (on mobile)

These sites seem to have a pre loaded price that lags a day or two behind the real price. When the page loads the current price dynamically updates on the page so you see it update like that when there are changes.

      All just a theory though.

Deal shows as 5d left still.

    • It seems to be behaving (staying at $9.88) again! :)

  • Same for me - price increases itself.

Less that 24hrs since deal posted…

  • I just bought one for AUD 13.66

  • I bought one for AUD$16.95 2 weeks ago still being shipped. OP if I get another one now would you do a credit on the one I paid for $16.95? :)

  • can this control the volume and channels as well?

    • It can control anything your IR remote can do as it's just sending the same commands.

  • The price decreased to US$9.79
    Ordered one.
