These are the best every day value and somewhat heavier than the more expensive ones Big W sell.

    • i have bought about 10 of those ones… great value (yes i used them all, for christmas lights)

  • 10A? Heavy Duty?

10A is the minimum allowed. 15A~20A I'd call heavy duty.
Sick to death of marketing terms being thrown needlessly.

10A is quite enough for general use.

The heavy duty refers to the insulation surrounding the wires and connection itself

I disagree. My drop saw can easily draw 12A when cutting hardwood.
This isn't labeled as for general use, its labeled for tradie use.

I can't think of a regular trade tool that wouldn't be cutting that rating thin.

I need a new one anyway; so we'll see how it holds up.
Ute tires and gravel are a good indication of what is REALLY 'heavy duty insulation' or not.

And before someone says "don't drive over it"; You're probably not often on a trade site.

        • So you'd like to draw 12A through it, and drive over it, but for it also to be cheap? I don't think this deal is for you.

        • @AlisonP:
          Price is just a coincidence.
I just want to use an extremely common tradie tool on my "Tradie" rated extension lead.
I'd also like to use it on a work site, where being driven over is a given at 75% of your jobs; as a tradie.
Unless of course, I'm right about the advertising being false? nahhhhhhhh.

Compare one like this to a standard, indoor extension of 3-5 metres, then you'll understand why they call it heavy duty. Yes, they both only carry 10 amps, but in similar situations this one would last longer. "Heavy duty" refers to the build quality rather than the power rating. Your 15-20 amp criteria is largely irrelevant as Australian domestic supplies are primarily 10 amp, with maybe 15 amp being used for cookers or similar high draw devices. A 15 amp plug won't fit in a 10 amp socket. 20 amp sockets exist, but aren't commonly used.
