    Vintage style bicycle from the iconic bike brand Cyclops,

    A chinese bike with the name of a dead Australian bike company stuck on. Why should that give confidence?
    Is it as heavy as it looks?

      I bought the men's mountain bike cyclops not long ago from target.
      Took it back 3 days later.

    For the money, I'd wait for a sale and get a Reid for about $30 more.

    • They haven't had a good sale for a while.

      • +1

        On the contrary, they had the click frenzy sale not long ago!

      • Yeah, they have middling sales semi-regularly (the current one is ok), but every now and again they have a really good one. I bought the Ladies Vintage Classic (the model prior to the Plus, now discontinued) on clearance a few months ago for my wife at $169.00. I'd have posted it but stock levels were quite low by then.

    • Any specific reid model you referring here?

        • Thx. Looks like atleast twice in price compare to Target's one. This one is one of the best bicycle (in $150 mark) providing an upright seating posture. Plz correct me if any other better options in this range with this good upright seating posture.

          Looks like atleast twice in price compare to Target's one

          but also at least twice the quality.

        • @jv: but same steel frame and fork weights 15kg. Yeah 7 vs 6 speed but like what OP said $100 more…

          @electricbluee:
          For example:

          https://www.reidcycles.com.au/vintage-ladies-7-speed-royale.…

          Pros for Reid:
          - Free shipping or free assembly if picked up from a Reid shop
          - Lifetime warranty on the frame + forks (realistically 5 years as you probably wouldn't bother after that)
          - 2 year warranty on the rest
          - If you're near a Reid shop, warranty repairs are easier and quicker
          - Different size options
          - Extra gear
          - Free first service
          - In my view, from experience with both brands, better quality
          - (?) Longer head stem, so more upright position (if you want that)
          - (?) Might still be able to get free helmet, lock and light set

          Pros for Cyclops
          - Cheaper
          - Free front basket kit (save a further ~$40.00)

          I'd go the Reid for my money, easily.

        • @Ayanami:

          • Free first service

          12 months free servicing

    • Interesting… I have actually heard from many people that they bought a Reid, it was crap. Later bought one from Target and thought it was 10 times better than the Reid one.

      • +1

        Ha ha ha oh dear me no.

        Reid is and always has been far, far superior to anything you can get at Big W, Target or Kmart. But this has been discussed many times before. Kmart etc. bikes are simply not worth it.

        • So the people that told me their Reid bike rusted and fell apart really quick and then bought a Target bike which has lasted much much longer… They're lying?

        • +1

          @UndeclaredFreak:

          They're lying?

          maybe they're not giving you 'all' the information…

          Also, Reid bikes have a 'lifetime warranty' that includes structural rust…

          @UndeclaredFreak:

          They're lying?

          No, just wrong. I'd buy a Reid over a Target bike any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I wouldn't even have a Target bike for free.

        • @blitz:
          You really wouldn't even have a Target bike for free? Why?

        • +1

          @chyawala:

          I can say that because I have had the opportunity on numerous occasions (e.g. bikes in skips, hard rubbish collection, friends discarding, etc). The reasons are manifold:

          • Target bikes are neither comfortable nor fun to ride - mostly because they are not made to be ridden, they are made to be purchased and then discarded shortly afterwards.
          • They are poorly designed, with no-name or bottom-end components and groupsets pushing heavy steel frames and rolling on heavy steel rims. Plastic washers to keep wheels aligned, but that wear within a short time. Thin plastic shims make it impossible to keep brakes and gears adjusted - so the rider stops adjusting them, and the bike becomes unusable.
          • There is no point upgrading components on a Target bike, and no Target bike components are worth putting on another bike. Absolutely nothing on a Target bike is worth anything on its own.
          • The only benefit of a Target bike is if you need to leave it somewhere for a long period of time( e.g. train station) and don't mind it being stolen. Otherwise, they are pointless. Their build quality and design actually discourage you from riding.
          • Like wearing uncomfortable shoes, life is too short to ride a crappy bike. I'm not saying you need to spend thousands, or even hundreds on a bike - you can pick up great bikes second hand for very little. I'm saying you should give a damn about what you ride.

          I love bikes and own quite a few. But I wouldn't even have a Target bike for free.

      • +1

        I also much, much prefer a Reid bike. I've owned a few from Kmart/Target over the years and have owned 2 Reids. The Reids win hands down, though I do take reasonable care of my bikes.

        Best comparison:

        • Reid Harrier Singlespeed I bought on sale for ~$250.00 about 2 years ago. I keep track of the rides I do and I've done about 1,000km on the Reid. Still going strong, haven't replaced anything though the tyres and chain are due. No rust and it has seen a fair bit of riding in the rain.

        • Southern Star Singlespeed I bought on sale for ~$100.00 about 3 years ago. Did about 150km in 4 months. Some surface rust, stock chain had broken and needed to be replaced, stock chain ring was getting worn, brakes needed constant adjustment, bearings were shot and the cranks had started to warp (made of plastic, unbelievably). Discarded before I hurt myself.

        For 2.5 times the price, the Reid came with deep dish wheels, better running gear overall, choice of colours, choice of size (very important), handled better and generally felt safer. If I bought 3 of the Southern Stars for the price of 1 Reid I'd still be better off with the Reid.

        To me, the Kmart/Target bikes are basically disposable and a sort of "one size fits all". If you're going to do anything more than the odd run down to the shops, the Reid will serve you better and keep you safer (at least, in my opinion). I've a Merida road bike for longer or group rides, but the Reids are great for commuting and errands.

        It's a shame, as the first Kmart bike I owned (a Huffy about 15 years ago) was great. Might still be using it if it didn't get stolen after 5 years of solid use.

          (a Huffy about 15 years ago)

          We might have bought the same one… Mine finally died earlier this year.

        • @jv:

          Haha good to hear. I think the name of my model was "Granite" or similar?

        • @Ayanami:

          Not sure of the model name… It's at the tip now…
