  • Good for winter.

    • What about the other seasons?

      • +2

he means these things get hot, hot, hot!

  • only problem, to make this a decent machine…

    dvd writter +35 bux
extra 2 gig ram 75 bux (although it does say 2 is the max for some reason?)
bigger hdd 1TB 100 bux (my old dell gx 280 didnt take drives that big)
graphics card ~100 bux. depending on what your doing.

so 180 for the machine landed, 490 to make this pretty decent, however, still no monitor…if your looking for anything semi decent better off spening a hundred or so more and getting a C2D system or even an i3…although this is a neat package

good for a EXTREMELY basic computer…but even then id want more than 1GB Ram…

No! Big warning here guys - this computer has no PCI-E slots, only PCI slots. I wouldn't bother upgrading the graphics card, PCI graphics cards just aren't worth the effort.

      • ahh thanks, didnt notice that, should have read it more, even my gx280 had a pci-e!

        • Yeah it depends on which form factor of OptiPlex you get. I've got 2 GX620s, one a USFF with zero slots, and one a SFF with 1 PCIe and 1 PCI.

I got them from an eBay store last year with their LCD monitors for cheaper than this price, and they are the newer model and came with 3 months warranty too. Loads of places on eBay have them ex-lease with warranties etc. So this old GX520 without monitor isn't a bargain I'm afraid.

  • market price. plenty of others available on ebay, etc around this price. $99 would be a 'bargain'.

    wouldn't waste my time

especially if something blows up, good luck getting psus and stuff

just cobble up a basic PC, will run faster and cooler

    • I agree, although there are plenty of parts on ebay second hand cheap, i bought a second hand power supply cause I thought one died, ended up being the m/board though….it was cheap, (think under 20 landed)

but yeah, you have to buy dell specific stuff which can be a pain, (and expensive brand new)

Ive had 3 dells all ran pretty good, nice small cases, great as a basic computer.

    • Sure, everyone has the time to buy all the parts and put it together…
For the time and effort of putting together a machine, you could do far worse than this… :)
Not everyone knows how to build a PC, you know? ;)

      • check out CPL/MSY for cheap boxs, for the price its OK, however, for a very basic computer it cant really be beaten,
if you want something semi decent this will run rings around it with newer windows. for a little more.
(than the price i listed above to upgrade it)

        eg:
410 from CPL….(though no windows included)
        Dual Core E5400
        P5G41T-M-LX MB
        2GB Kingston Pc10666 DDRIII
        320GB Seagate SATAII HDD
        SATA DVD Burner
        Integrated VGA, GB-LAN
        USB in Front Tower Case
        Extra Options:

        Intel DuoCore E6500 CPU $9
        4G Kingston Pc10666 Twin $73
        1GB XFX 4350 $55
        Windows 7 Home Premium $125

  • Not a bargain at all. My company offer me something like this for less than $100 but I don't even want to think about it. Those machines used to run 24/7 for 2 years and nobody wanted to take care of them. Condition is crap.

    • nothing that a format cant fix, damn thats pretty good your getting offered them for 300, our company just passes on what dell charges, and it was closer to 300 a couple of years ago…

as i said, ive got three dells, all run great. did everything i needed… only problem was i couldn't put a 1TB drive in it…

  • I bought a few from graysonline and one just died. MB is gone.
The rest is ok but would not worth this amount. Just add another $150 on this pc to get a new one as insurance.

  • these are very good comments! keep it up!
