BIGW gift cards can also be used at Masters. I purchased the BigW giftcards (10%) off during Xmas promotion and used it mainly at Masters.

These are Store eGift cards with different T&C's.

  • +2

Hey guys I thought I might add that not all woolies Caltex accept egift cards as a payment option, which is ridiculous, I've had staff at the Caltex and at woolies why this is the case and non seem to have any ideas.

Is anyone able to shed any light on this matter?

For example Erminington woolies Caltex doesn't accept egift cards, it even has stickers on the pumps to state this.

Every time there is some sort of promotion at woolies or big w staff are oblivious to it. Always frustrating dealing with these staff

    • They did not accept because its franchise store … not own by woolworths caltex.

    • I got caught out once too where the Caltex store didn't accept egiftcards (but accepted the discount docket)

      • +1

from what i know, the shop needs to say "woolworths" and not star mart or caltex or anything else.

  • +1

I didn't know TA is store rep for Cashrewards…
    I'm a noob

  • How long from order confirmation email do the gift cards generally take to come through?

    • -1

      From the confirmation email:

Your order is being processed and will be distributed shortly.
Please allow up to 24 hours for delivery of eGift Cards.
The above time period is an estimate only, from receipt of your payment. Times may vary depending on payment confirmation from your financial institution.

      • Thanks - I had read this. Was hoping someone could say from experience actual time to expect.

        • I buy my gift cards Saturday mornings and I always receive them within 4 hours or less

    • +2

based on my own experience as an average I would say within 12 hours however I should add that their systems are fairly terrible too. ive waited up to 3 days and longest being a week and then some even never went through!

good luck trying to contact them because finding an actual number is near impossible. you need to send off an equity via their contact us link.

but now with the app, some good discounts a little stuff around I can put up with.

    • Ordered at 2:47PM, received at 4:20PM today. Some other times it has taken 4 hours.

    • Thanks all. I ordered at 4.30pm yesterday… Yet to receive

    • Smaller value cards get processed a lot quicker (few hours). I placed an order on Saturday night for a $400 eGift card which did not arrive by Sunday night (24hrs+). I tied placing an order for $5 which arrived within 2 hours. So I contacted them through their online form and got the $400 card cancelled. Must be some kind of manual checking on their end with large orders.

    • Just received a phone call to confirm my order and they're sending through now (was for $250).

  • Hey nice deal TA, your effort is much appreciated!!

    • Who keeps negging?

  • +1

How long the gift cards will be valid for?

    • +1

      12 months

  • Can I buy the Big W ones at 8% off, then use those to buy the 5.5% off Wish Gift card or do I have to just buy 8% off Big W and do a refund on my TV to get a Wish Gift Card? ;)

    • Also, they won't block me from the store for this scam will they?

      • +1

I don't think any of them will work. How do you buy wish gift cards at Big W for 5.5% off? This promotion is only via Cash Rewards.

Also, as far as I know, refunds are usually done through a voucher or a docket, not a gift card. And judging by the comments over the past few months, buying wish gift cards are now not available via self service, so the staff can refuse to accept the refund docket as a payment for wish gift cards (and that's assuming that the system allows you to).

  • +1

Do they stack with woolies online C&C orders?
Sometimes they offer $10 off $100 spend etc

    • Probably, as they're separate promotions - as far as Woolies Online are aware, you're using a regular gift card to pay for your order, and they wouldn't know it was purchased on special.

    • Yes, you need to select gift card when u pay for the goods. The promotion code column is separate to this.

    • Yes. Gift cards are accepted for payment online, they give you a longer number in the PDF file for this (starting with 6280, similar to physical cards).

  • +8

I will wait for 7.5% off wish card. Like last year sale

If none buy them at 5.5%, they will increase to 6% 6.5% 7% 7.5% and more

    • +1

I respect your way of thinking

    • Who had WISH egiftcards at 7.5% off. I thought it was only the Big W egiftcards that went on sale at this rate.

I only just finished spending mine.

They worked in all the stores that Wish cards did. Converted some to physical Wish cards too.

Plus I managed to get cashrewards on the first couple so I go to around 12% discount(they have closed this loophole unfortunately).

    • +3

Or wait for the Holy of Holies https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227360

      • +1

I still regret not taking maximum advantage of this. Sad times.

        • +5

          I scored 3.
Right place, right time. The sun rises again and more bargains to be found :)

        • @rawm: I shouldn't complain, I got 2 or 3 as well haha. Thanks for your positive outlook :)

  • Can someone confirm if the Big W egift card could be used at the Woolworths or Dan as a normal wish card. Thanks

  • +17

Pretty nice deal but think twice before stocking up on these. Some quick math:

Original ongoing deal 5% off WISH gift card. Now 5.5% off so 0.5% difference.

Assuming 3% pa interest on bank accounts, this 0.5% difference is worth around 2 months of interest so stocking up is only worthwhile to the extent that the purchased gift cards last less than 2 months. Otherwise better off just leaving money in bank and re-purchase later when needed.

    • +9

      Good point.

However, I'd like to add that 3% pa interest for anyone who earns above the tax-free threshold of $18200 is not actually 3% pa.

For example, if you're in the lowest income bracket, 3% pa interest is actually 2.43% (tax rate of 19%)
If you're in the second lowest income bracket ($37001 and above), 3% is actually 2.025% (tax rate of 32.5%)
      and so on..

Don't forget interest you earn is not tax-free! You still have to pay tax for it.

    • -4

can you show where you can get 3% per annum on an investment of only $100,
      kthxbye

      • +2

        Do you even ozbargain?

      • ING Savings Maximiser.

  • Cheers cuzzie, save me some $ refueling the rental car!

    • -4

Go back across the ditch you sheep sh*!#$!

      • Hahaha sure beats an Aussie though ;)

  • very nice info

  • wish it is physical card. it is just too much trouble to enter the code.

    • Just get the cashier to enter it?

    • +2

Your username does not lie at all

    • Read some comments saying you can use app with ease? I haven't tried it though.

  • +5

Not sure if I am missing anything. $5.5% discount means saving of $27.50 when you spend $500. While it's a saving afterall, is it such a great deal so as to deserve 300+ upvotes? Looks like I am missing something for sure.

    • +1

Nope your not missing anything. $150 shop a week, $7200 a year = $360 off with regular 5% off gift card, $396 with 5.5% off gift card. That's an extra $36 saving. Doesn't seem like a lot but everything counts on OzB :)

    • +3

I agree. It's not "worth" 300+ upvotes but sometimes there's "username branding" for which we can do nothing about..

It would kinda be like seeing the same deal posted on Ozbargain vs TopBargains or Scoopbucket or whatever else there is.

The one on Ozbargain instantly looks like a better deal even though it's the same.

  • For those that convert e-gift to physical cards what do you ask at desk?

"Can you please switch my e-voucher over to a card please?"

If the query why - what do you say?

    • +1

Reason 137 of 355 - Get two cards for half the value of your eGift card and tell them you won the office footy tipping for the week and want to share it with your friend who helped pick the winning teams and margin.

  • If I get the e-gift card, will I be able to use it to buy another card like Google Play or Apple store card from Woolworths or Big W?

    • I'd like to know this too! Cheers.

    • If the GF you are buying is a set value then yes, do it at the self serve counter. Some staff may not let you.

      • Sorry, what is GF?

        • +2

          Girlfriend. Have you got one?

          Gift Card.

Agree with what sween has said though. Set value meaning something like iTunes, JB Hi-Fi, Netflix (they are all sold in pre-set values).

        • @illumination: So that's a "yes", I can buy Google play card in store with these e-gift card, right. Thanks!

        • @johnnyle: Yep I don't see why not.

          But just a tip…

Buy Telstra Prepaid starter packs instead (when discounted). I think Woolies is selling the $30 one for $15 now. You can use that $30 as google play credit.

Con it's a bit more hassle. The Google Play card you can just "top up" your account with it.

Telstra Prepaid starter pack credit is more fiddly to use.

        • Yes gift card. Sorry.

  • +5

5% off eGift cards are my favourite way of saving money with almost no effort. However, so few people know about them. I regularly go through Woolworths self checkouts, buying up weekly specials, and have never seen anyone else using them. Only once have I see someone buy fuel with an eGift card.

It's probably a good thing for us savvy ozbargainers that more people don't know eGift cards. It's a nice feeling when I buy fuel below the terminal gate price, and then chop another 5% off that. Other fuel buyers are subsidising my purchase.

    • +6

I believe it is called price discrimination. Most people I know couldn't be bothered keeping track of giftcards to save $5 per $100. They would probably end up leaving money to expire on the cards which is on of the reasons why the retailers do gift cards.

    • +4

It's not that not many people know about it, just that many people don't like:

      1. having many cards to keep track of (in memory and wallets)
      2. getting into the nitty-gritty of buying and maintaining cards for li'l saving (I personally value ANY saving though)
      3. using eCard which isn't as easy for everyone as the physical card
      4. remembering when it's going to be the last transaction with card balance near zero. Real issue comes up when you do the last transaction with some small amount remaining on the card. Like you have $8 on your card and your bill is $21. So, you need to use another card (debit/credit) in addition to this card to complete that transaction. It's a pain for some.

All in all, while these cards save you $27.5 for every $500 spent, using these cards demand some level of discipline and also time and effort. If the saving was higher, say 10% or more, I bet more people would use them and you will then feel that more people knew about them. :). It's a game of the perceived value. Life is all about it, mate!

    • +3

There is a woolworths money app. You don't even need to sign in. Download the app, click manage balances, add all your giftcards - and bingo you can keep track of them in real time (needs data).

      • Thanks! I didn't know the existence of this woolworths money app! Found $8 in one of my e-gift card after I downloaded the app and put in one of my old e-gift card. Also love that it tells me if I have any fuel vouchers left in my woolworth reward card.

  • Stupid Question (I believe) but can I use Big W E Gift Cards to buy Playstation Store Credit in store? Anyone do this yet?

    • +1

I have in the past. However I believe this may have ended last year, have a look at their terms and conditions, they cover it in that doc.

  • For people want the physical cards, you get the same discount with $5.5 registered post.

    • Or do as I have done for ages, buy the eGift card, and use that to buy a physical Wish Gift card in store, no freight charge which is eating a lot of your savings.

      • Does not always work. Save the trouble and embarrassment.

        • 100% success rate for me, different staff, different stores. No trouble, no embarrassment, save the $5.50.

        • @snuke: Do you literally just say, "I've got a egiftcard here and I would like to convert it to a physical WISH card"?

Also out of curiosity, why do you prefer a physical card? I'd imagine some would prefer not having to carry around an extra card + the risk of physically losing it. You could argue there's a slight risk your "digits" could be stolen, but I'd imagine that risk is much lower than the risk of physically losing it and worth it for the convenience of not having to carry around an extra card too.

        • +2

          @illumination:

Also out of curiosity, why do you prefer a physical card?

Good for some petrol stations. All Woolworths-caltex's will accept 4c fuel vouchers, and also Wish gift cards, but not all accept eGift vouchers (ONLY woolworths owned petrol stations)

        • +1

          @illumination:
I just go to the service counter, or regular cashier with a Wish Gift card, say I want to XXX amount, and when it’s time for payment, I say I will pay with eGift card.
First few times were all at the service counter, and I said I wanted to swap it to a physical card for ease of use. I personally prefer to use the app, but prior to the apps current useful state of storing the full details to enter etc… it was pretty useless and I would use a Notes app to keep tab. The other half prefers a physical card, as she finds it easier to use.

        • Nice idea!

        • @snuke:

Good idea, better to buy it from Big W as you get 8% off from CR

        • +1

          @Rakddon:

Except that Big W are under clear instructions to not allow this.
There is bold red text on the CR link saying just this. Because of past exploits in using Big W egift to buy Wishgift cards, they clamped down on buying all gift cards with it. Hence the morons buying items, just so they can return them the next day so they get given a physical gift card as the refund.

  • how come no one has mentioned the delivery fee of $5?

    • +1

Because we're all buying the e-gift card. That works almost as well, barring the above issues with some petrol stations that take the physical card but not the e-gift card.

    • +1

They did, how come you didn't bother reading other posts, see here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/250303?page=1#comment-3734…
But as kwchaz says, everyone else is ordering the e-Gift card.

  • Can we use the Big W egift card at Wollies or Dan Murphy ??
    Thanks

    • Already covered multiple times.

    • (pro-tip: no)

  • +4

    We couldn't process your Request
Error processing payment. Please try again later. Been since last hour, anyone else had an issue?

    • +1

Yes, experiencing the same error message.

    • +1

      Yep, same here just now.

    • +1

      Same issue
Doesnt even give a chance to select a payment method/type in a credit card number

    • +1

      Yep, no love here either.

    • +1

      same :(

    • +1

Same. Have been trying since yesterday. Tried different cards, Mac and PC. No joy. :(

    • +1

The deal seems to be broken now but yet it's still being upvoted - am I missing something?

    • That is very weird.

I doubt the extra 0.5% would lead to the site being overwhelmed.

I'm passing on the offer until they fix it, maybe the site has been compromised.

  • Can I use the BIG W eGift Cards to buy a PS4?
