they sale everyday but the price is still much expensive than other countoris. maybe the most expensive price all over the world…… in canada the price is more than half of au. don't know why, but that's ridiculous.

  • 30% off is a good discount so +ve
    but totolee is totally right
    Their Aus prices are ridiculous
I love Lenovo build quality and support but man these laptops are about twice the price of similarly specced competitiors from Dell and others

    • You love the build quality and support of Lenovo ? personally i think the support has declined somewhat since lenovo/IBM sale

When IBM sold to lenovo they also outsourced the service and support instead of doing it themselves. This did not improve the support at all , you will find Dell's support is actually better.

Coincedently Toshiba probably has the best notebooks yet there support is quite limited the service is not.

      • Man, i'm afraid not agree with your opinion. i just feel the price in australia is not make sense. but i think their support is still as good as IBM period. coz, i have bought the T410 form Hongkong and it has very good build quality and more cheaper than in AUS even include in international shipping charge. and the service is also avaliable in AU for three years. if my notebook have some problem, i just need to bring it to thinkpad service center and no tax invoice needed. tell the truth about the thinkpad notebook, most of thinkpad users will not change their future notebook brand due to it's high quality and stability. you'll never belive that my last thinkpad droped from about 2 meters high and nothing happend except the paint.

        • Funnily enough i used to work for IBM as a thinkpad engineer and have done the drop from approx 2 metres myself in a bag it was fine , they used to service and design there own notebooks (mostly) which made them good although everyone has production problems at times

I am talking about the current time ie not in the past ie now that Lenovo is owning the brand as oppose to IBM, you wll notice Lenovo do not do their own service and the service centre you went to was not actually lenovo but as third party company

The price well i wouldnt argue that as there are various reasons why the price is at the level it is

I respect your opinion, I wouldnt buy a lenovo over a dell or toshiba they are all close now depending on the series that you choose ie the T410 actually comes from the Titanium Series which was designed for executives, as oppose to the I/R series which is for students, this series was plagued with problems ie the T30 memory problem and the t40 video/ motherboard problem

          • @Mikinoz: Mikinoz - Thanks for you opinions
As someone who is/was in the industry what would you buy now?
I am looking for a new 14" Notebook for around $1500
Some of the Dell Vostros with aluminium body look ok or is there something else you would suggest
            Cheers

            • @Noblejoker: Generally i would go for a Toshiba, although there are some good Dells, i am hesitant to recommend the Vostro series as i dont find them a very sturdily built machine, although havent played with an alu body version.

i searched on the screen size at Toshiba and this is what it came up with , i receommend the m300 although a bit ugly

i checked the latest offerings from Dell and for performance for the price this is pretty good, although they do get a bit warm, but bang for the buck this is the best

Personally i think 13.3 is a great size for portability and normal useage

Good Luck in your search :)

  • i agree to wang's opinion. I used to purchase a DELL XPS series online in China for my little sister. it's even cheaper than australia. but she is not satisfied for the 13.3' screen and ask me to buy a bigger one for her…… i just recommend 14.

    • does your sister need to move the laptop or does it just stay on the desk ie is it for uni where it will need to be carried ?

i say this because a larger screen generally will make the laptop bigger/heavier which is not that good when carrying all day :)

      • not so sure, coz she's in canada now and maybe she needs to bring it to school as a study tool.

  • If you are buying a Thinkpad, buy only the T series. They are the best and worth the money you pay for. I have a T40 I bought from 2003 and it's still working fast and smoothly and even looks like new. My friends R60 failed a few times in two years.

    • Really i am suprised the t40 is still going the T40-T43 series was actually manufactured with a design fault in the motherboard, ie the graphics goes after a while as the board is not supported and begins to crack around the gpu chip.

I have a working one of these aswell although T42, it has died once , i have replaced the motherboard and now it doesnt move from the desk.

I recommend you sell it while it works as they have a bad reputation or dont move it much or especially dont hold it on the left or right corner only when carrying

The only series i would receommend is the X series i have had the 560z(model the x was designed on), the x21 x41 & now x60 bloody awesome machines

    • ttkc haha we are thinkpad lover. my first laptop is thinkpad t40p. it was stolen in 2006 :(. so i bought a t60 for use till 2weeks ago.
