i own a subaru and whilst $75 is that, the money you still pay after for them to service your car is pretty high to begin with if you took it to somewhere else who does logbook servicing.

    • It'd be ok if Subaru offer any Capped Price Servicing

      • +2

        Which they do now days.

    • I calles up ultratune recently and they quoted the same price

      • +1

Any disadvantage using ultra tune for a log book service? I'll happily pay the same price as they come to me and I don't have to take it in to an official place and wait etc

        • +1

You should be able to get log book services at any licenced mechanic without penalty under ACL.

        • @StewBalls: cheers

Yes. Resale value because a car serviced by ultra tune is no different to one serviced by Kmart auto and that is a poor job by generally incompetent muppets.

If you don't want to use the dealer check forums out for recommendations for a specialist on your car.

And the onus is on you to prove that the service was performed correctly and if the muppets servicing your car missed something that causes a major failure you'll be without a car until you resolve it which will require you to take legal action.

The ACL doesn't help you as much as many people think.

          @Maverick-au:

As someone who has worked at a dealership for many years, I can tell you there's a lot of muppets there too. I really wouldn't be generalising if I were you.

        • @Maverick-au:

Resale value? Maybe if you like to change cars often. My methodology is keep it until it breaks. So, expensive servicing or even paying to get scratches/dents fixed is a waste. By the time I'm ready to sell, the car would be worth less than $5k if pristine.

My car is over a decade old and I get it serviced free (cost of parts) at a generic mechanic. I'll probably keep it another ten years if it still works.

Sure but if there is a problem and your take your car to the same dealer they will assist with the issue whereas if you jump from cheapest mechanic to cheapest mechanic you'll find yourself in a pile of excrement with no way to get out.

        • @gimme:
100% correct gimme. I have had 4 services done by dealerships and a couple by mobile mechanics and the mobile mechanic servicing is far more thorough. Both times they linked up to check for TCB's on the vehicle too. One was actually an ex dealership mechanic.

        • @Maverick-au: My wife's car came back from the last dealership service with a wheelnut missing…so I'm sure you'll forgive me if I beg to differ on your view of where the muppet show is held.

        • @StewBalls:

Not the only thing in your house with 1 nut missing :P

        • @Spackbace: The one that's left is made of brass though…

    • Don't bother with the survey, options are quite limited.

      However, it's an interesting promo.
All you need to do is book by the end of sept. So, book say the next 5 years of service (2 per year at 6 month intervals) , print out 10 vouchers and save 750.

Not sure if you can book that far in advanced.

  • sounds like a good deal. I get my car serviced at a dealer as they were no more expensive than a subaru specialist workshop. Would not trust ultratune with anything.

    • +2

You can get monkeys anywhere. One Kmart Auto near me has two of the best and most thorough mechanics you could find.
It is N O T the shirt they wear or the name of the workshop… it is the attitude and ability of the mechanic.
A lot of dealerships use young general labourers.

      • Exactly. You just gotta know who you deal with. Kmart auto near me, I went there to get tyres and have seen them upselling products that the customers might not need.

And yeah, dealership uses young apprentices simply because they can get away with paying them $5 to $10 an hour.

  • Only really a deal if their prices aren't inflated. Usually the profit margin for a service is well over $100 at some of the bigger service centers, compared to <$50 at local small businesses.

    • … and more than that! Have heard of $500 for a service???? which basically was an oil change and a filter… $200 elsewhere.
